About three weeks ago I went to this store to purchase bed rails. When George, the owner, brought the box to me, he said he had to tape up the bottom of the box. I did think that was strange, but didn't think anything of it. When I got home and opened the box, the items inside were filthy! I had to use soap and water to clean them! Also, several parts were bent up so bad I could not put the rails together. I was furious and hurt! He knew he sold me a used product without informing me. Usually, a store will sell open stock at a discount and make you aware of what you are purchasing. I was furious and hurt because I know he would NOT have sold this to a man, or to someone that looks like him. Yes, he was very friendly and very professional while serving me, but his actions told me where his heart is. Little did he know that I was a returning customer and had planned on coming back to purchase a couple of items I saw while in the store waiting for him to "get the bed rails together." This is what the lady who was helping me said to me, and told me to look around until George got the bed rails ready. I did find this as an odd statement as well, especially since it took a long time, but again, I didn't dwell on it. Yes, this store has very nice furniture at reasonable prices, but I refuse to be treated less than. I'll take my business elsewhere, George Update: Thank you George for reaching out to me and offering a solution to the problem. I also appreciate your willingness to explain what may have happened. Marty Rae's is my favorite furniture store. My husband and I have shopped there for all of our furniture needs since we built our first house. Recently, we wanted to lower our Mark Hampton bed. I checked in the store for some options since bed had been purchased from them. George and his son came to my house and reoriented the brackets on the bed to make it the perfect height. Now that is service since we purchased the bed over twenty years ago! Not only was George very knowledgeable, but he and his staff have alway s given us personable service. If you go to Marty Rae's, make sure you work with LaToya Sims. I cannot recommend her enough! Right from the beginning, LaToya was easy to approach about questions, pricing, buying process, and delivery. This was my first experience buying furniture, and as a young professional, it's so easy to get roped in and ripped off at other stores. This was not the case with LaToya at Marty Rae's. LaToya helped me pick out a beautiful, custom made bedroom set. She was patient and walked me through the different wood, stain, fabrics, and finishes I could choose from. She helped me create the bed of my dreams all within price range. We communicated via text as well as me stopping into the store a few times. You can tell she's super passionate about what she does and loves helping customers. I've ordered several items at various times with this store and they have always disappointed. Very bad communication on order status. Waited 5 months for a recliner and they never called to give update when they said it would take 4-6 weeks for delivery. I had to keep calling and they never knew what was happening with my order. I even had to get the store owner involved and he didn't help with the situation either. If I can help it...I will NEVER order anything from this store again. Stay away if you can. I recently visited Marty Rae's looking for a leather recliner and a few other pieces to fill out the room. The store had a large selection and the staff was very nice and knowledgeable and helped direct me to the furniture that meet my needs. I purchased a recliner and sofa which the sofa had to be special ordered, 4 week delivery. The staff and owner kept me well informed and came through with everything they promised. Yes, ordering does require patience as these beautiful pieces take time to customize and ship! I just want to say a few words about Marty Rae's in Lexington,SC. I met Dale Maxwell there about 13 years ago when I built my home in Lexington. She came out and helped me design my great room and dining room. I purchased several pieces and loved each one. Since then I have been back several times to update my rooms with Dale's help. She has been wonderful-she helped me rearrange my furniture, she looked up many furniture examples and prices (I changed my mind a few times during our planning of furniture updates!), she helped me choose paint colors and gave me the names of a seamstress and furniture repairman. (They were professional and did beautiful work.) Each time Marty Rae's sent out my furniture the delivery men were professional and helpful. My wife purchased a Chesterfield recliner from Marty Rae's for me over two years ago and it has remained a favorite in our home from day one. To that point, family and guests gravitate to it whenever they are in our home and it is a chair I would rather not share but, company always comes first. After two plus years of wear, the stitching on the arm, left side, started coming loose. I took a photo of the stitching issue to Marty Rae's to see what could be done and was taken to Izola Gist. She arranged for repair of the chair st our home and said she would check with the manufacturer about covering the cost. Chair two plus years old and they covered my repair and had the service tech come to our home to complete it. Satisfied as a customer and one who will refer others to shop at Marty Rae's. Finally got one lady to answer a question as she was walking past me for the second time, didn't offer to help me and walked away. We purchased a Ekornes Stressless chair from Marty Rae's of Lexington. This is absolutely the worst purchase and waste of $5,000 we have ever made in our 40 years of marriage. We both loved the chair on the showroom floor, however the chair that was "special ordered" was not special at all. It is nothing compared to the chair that was on the showroom floor. My husband actually fell asleep in the chair on the showroom floor. The chair on the showroom floor was much more substantially cushioned than the chair we received. This chair was to be a special gift for him. We had actually considered replacing our pair of Hancock and Moore leather sofas with the Ekornes Stressless, due to the comfort of the in store model. Thank goodness we did not. The sales person stopped herself short of elaborating that Hancock and Moore was not of good quality. I can assure you that our sofas are of superior quality compared to the Ekornes Stressless chair. The trip to Charlotte and the quality that Boyles provided was worth every dime we paid and our time to travel to get the quality that we expected and paid for. We have owned our sofas for well over 15 years, where this chair should be sat beside the curb for garbage pickup. And? We didn't even receive a kiss. read more
