We came in after work one day and wanted to pick up a nice bottle of wine for our homemade pasta and pesto night! The gentleman gave us a great suggestion! He suggested carmenere- the zombie grape wine! Told us about it and explained in detail the organization of the store and about some of his favorite wines. It was a great experience! We can't wait to go back and try more of their hand picked selection. The selection is unique and well priced. It was fun to learn a little about the wines and where they came from. He was easy, helpful, and very nice to talk to! I even got to give Pisco a sunflower seed- the shop bird! read more

Martin's Wines - Carmenere wine! Zombie wine! - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Helena, Montana

So, I drove all the way into town, found a parking place, walked to the store to buy craft beer because they advertise "BEER", they tell me they have no beer. Sends me up the street to some phantom place. Not a pleasant shopping experience! Thanks Martin. read more

This was the most wonderful encounter thus far in our otherwise rainy Montana escape. We were staying at a nearby hotel and stumbled into the shop and upon its lovely owner and pet bird, Pisco. Not only do they have an incredible variety of wonderful and exotic wines that come from far and wide, the service was top-notch. We purchased a few bottles, and the wines were absolutely incredible. We can't wait to go back! The prices were also phenomenally on point. If you're in the area, you MUST check it out! read more

Ok, the owner knows his wines! He talks fast so listen closely. He has a fair selection of wines in there but not huge. Nice little local shop. Love the chessboard, knight and "this day in history" at his shop! Will shop here again. read more

Stayed in Helena for two weeks in April and quickly found Martin's Wines, visited the store 5 times and bought about 20 different bottles of red wine. Martin knows every wine in the store (it's a good if not huge selection) and can recommend bottles to correspond to your preferences, the wines are all reasonably priced (most around $20), and Martin (and his pet parrot) are amusing. read more

Stopped in and got some delicious wines! Unique selection and Martin was very helpful. We walked away with some white, red and rose! Recommend this place as Martin clearly cares and "pours" his heart into this spot. You can feel the knowledge and passion and the prices are very good. read more

Martin is very knowledgeable and always friendly! Great selection and terrific service! I try to stop in every time I'm downtown. He has introduced my wife and I to all types of wines we never expected we'd enjoy. Thanks, Martin! read more

Stoked I stopped in here! I got a sweetish dry Riesling suggested by the owner. The first thing I wanted to do was Snow Angels in the store. Resisting my impulse control, I enjoyed pursuing the wines. Plus the ART! I liked the Warlock guitar made famous by Kerry King..( just google Slayer ya'll). But the art was as diverse as the wine. Cute as hell and if you know quality this is your destination in Helena! read more

Great little wine store with a knowledgeable owner! It is conveniently located right behind the Doubletree hotel we were staying at

This place is phenomenal! The owner is always there and I have never met someone who is so knowledgable about wine and so willing to help! He'll ask us a few questions about our preferences, take into account our price range, and my husband and I always leave with a bottle or two that we end up loving! Will keep on coming back in! read more

Gotta update this review, Martin recommended a wine for us, based on my request for a lighter red wine, and the one he chose for us, was top notch. Nice to have someone help me find a decent wine. We will definitely be back. This is a nice wine store, and there is a wine club you can join. read more

If you're going to buy wine in Montana, this is your jam. Martin knows every bottle he carries from the story of the grape to the smallest intricacies in the flavor. Every wine in his shop has been hand selected for a reason, and he is always more than happy to tell you the story of all of them! I learn more about wine buying from him than anything I have attended in my life. A must go; you won't regret it! read more

Hello, Helenans! My wife and I come to your wonderful city from New York City every year to fish the Missouri. The first thing we do when we reach town is go to Martin's Wines to stock up before the fishing begins. You may be unaware of just how lucky you are to have this wonderful shop in your back yard. Martin is a true gourmet of wines and the embodiment of a wealth of information! Just tell him your tastes and he will find perfect matches for you. On our most recent trip Martin found us a great, dry white from the Greek island of Santorini, a Pinot Gris from Oregon, and a Barolo from Italy. All were delicious, and all were reasonably price; in all, a great value. So, do yourselves a favor and visit Martin's Wines as soon as possible. If you're lucky, Martin may even talk physics with you! Enjoy! read more

What a gem! This wine shop is located just across the pedestrian street from the Holiday Inn, which is why I ended up there. My husband, toddler, and I were staying at the Holiday Inn and I was looking for a bottle of wine to enjoy after the little one went to bed. As we entered, we were greeted with a friendly, "welcome to my shop!" and felt immediately at home. We believe we were being helped by Martin himself. He was so welcoming of our toddler (being held of course), and was extraordinarily knowledgeable about his wines. I learned so much in 10 minutes. We bought both selections he told us about, both were obscure grapes we had never heard of (but got a great history about), and are certainly pleased so far! we have opened the Marzemino, but not the Enantio. To top it off, he sent us with a corkscrew and suggested we return it the next day or keep it if we would rather! The wines we purchased were just under or right at $20 per bottle, but I noticed a range to appease many price points. We felt special and truly appreciated this rare experience. We will CERTAINLY be back if we return to Helena, and are checking out the website for shipping wines also! Thanks for the experience and unique wines, Martin! read more

This little wine shop is a gem. We stumbled in here while sightseeing in Helena and walked out with half a case of wine. We probably spent a good 20 minutes chatting with Martin, who is a great storyteller and knows the stories behind each of his wines. A special experience for sure! He also made stellar restaurant recommendations that made our brief stay an absolute joy. If you love wine and appreciate the unique, do yourself a favor and stop in. (Martin, you need to start a subscription service so we can enjoy your picks in Idaho!!) read more

I'm quite impressed. I've passed by several times while walking my dog and the owners have always been very friendly and chatty, even giving out dog cookies. I finally decided to stop in today and give this little shop a closer look. I had been skeptical as most wine shops around the country can be snooty and over priced. I was treated wonderfully. I told the gentleman that I prefer Mascato and he directed me right to the case and explained what types he had, the prices and a very detailed description of each wine. The best part was it didn't feel like he was trying to force me into any particular wine or upsell me on more expensive items. I ended up selecting a small bottle of Mascato from Italy for about $13. They email all receipts so be prepared for that. But it's rather nice as now I will have an easy reference to the name of a new wine that I've tried. I tried the wine this evening and it's one of the best Mascato's I've ever had. The selection of wines is a bit small. They only had 4 Mascato's or Mascato like wines, but I'd rather have a terrific small selection than 20 mediocre wines to choose from. There's a few meads that they are showcasing from the Missoula area that I'm excited to try next. Prices are reasonable $10-$40 a bottle. But the quality is amazing. Hope this little shop makes it here in Helena. read more
