Great Variety! We come here for one of their events, "Exploring the Loire Valley". This was a great value for your $$. They have 20 wines to taste on an easy progression if you do them in order. We stated with sparkling bruts, and light dry Roses to open your palette and end with complex well body reds. This was fun, with great service and a nice ambiance. They offered light finger food that was well paired to the wines. I had been waiting for an opportunity to order takeout from Martin Wine and Spirits, Uptown. So many people in reviews say the food is great, but some of the our Yelp Reviews indicated the food may be hit or miss. Today, It Was A Hit! We ordered multiple sandwiches, including the Hot Roast Beef ($9.99) and the Deluxe (or Deli) Pastrami ($13.99). The sandwiches were very good, solid contenders, no complaints. I didn't buy any wine, this trip, but the clean, well organized, huge store certainly would have what wine you are looking for. I will be happy to return in the future. Deli review! This is my favorite place to go grab lunch. They have the most amazing soups, and the soups are different everyday. My favorite two are the corn and crab bisque and the gumbo. Their sandwiches and salads are really good too. They have seasonal cocktails and you can grab one of their wine specials. They highlight a few different wines each month. You can buy a glass from the counter. Everyone is super friendly and the wait time is short. There are always a lot of people there during the lunch rush hour, though. It's a really nice place to have lunch solo with a cute little glass of wine. read more

So Patticakes wanted a big salad and suggested Martin Wine & Spirits. So many choices, I was well underway to follow suit. Then I spotted it and I couldn't turn back, they offered a Rueben. It was 1:30 and honestly we were lucky to find a spot. It was an older crowd and they seemed to have some hidden secret. The food, the portions, oh my. The salads are ginormous and everyone that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. My Rueben was made to perfection, juicy and tender, I was the happiest girl uptown. I legit do not even know where to start this review. (A good problem!) I guess I can start with my favorite reason to make the trip, Sena Salad. This is my gold standard when it comes to salads. I, usually, switch the cheese to goat cheese but other than that I do not make any changes. If you know me then you know that's a big deal. I've had several sandwiches, a few different types of cakes, probably like a handful of their different pasta/other similar salads and some of their hot dishes. Nothing has been a disappointment. I guess if you're visiting solely on their name then I can assure you this is definitely the place to come for all things wine. Sommeliers always eager to recommend a delicious bottle or a particularly special find... a sandwich, soup and salad deli that over decades is as consistent as it is delicious. The imported cured meats are staples in any French, German, Spanish or Italian kitchen... not to mention the dry delicacies - where else can you find turrón and torta de aceite in Louisiana? The Metairie and Uptown locations are both solid, however I'm partial to the ambiance of the uptown location - more open and relaxed. I hear there is also one in mandeville - will try! I was looking for a specific kind of local spirit, and Martin's popped up in my search list. Even though I have driven within blocks of this location I don't know how many hundreds of times, I've never realized where it was in relation to my daily life. It was great to stop in to find what I was looking for (and then some!) There's a little cafe in the back corner of the store that looks pretty legit, but hasn't been on my radar on a day I was hungry, so I'll hold off on that. It's a fairly big store (not in comparison to Total Wine, but absolutely when compared to most other primarily alcohol-based stores in the area). I did have to wander the spirits aisle several times to find what I was looking for as it wasn't as intuitive as I would've liked, and there wasn't a lot of help on the floor (although there was one person on the floor helping someone else), but I found what I needed and was able to get on my way for a relatively decent price. If wine is your thing, this seems to be far more their jam, but as for me and my house, we are happily spirited from Martin's. read more

When other places may have lines I can always goto Martin Wine Seller and order a salad and or share one of their fabulous sandwiches. This is also the place I recommend going if you need a good meal in a quiet environment without all the distractions in many places. The most delicious chicken salad on sourdough on the planet now at tables spaced what look to be more than 6 feet apart, and all the wonderful deli fixings, cheese, meats and booze to go, to have your own little party or brunch at home! And, so many delectable dessert options, too. A must stop on your list if takeout or dine-in places! #yelplove Such a great place to pop in for some nice wines or specialty beers and liquor. Everyone here is extremely knowledgeable and helpful and can help you find whatever you're looking for. They carry Ridge wines, which can be difficult to find. On my most recent visit, they had Augustiner beer, which I didn't think you could get anywhere at all. Pandemic update: Martin's is doing a great job. All staff is wearing masks. Outside there are clear signs that say clean baskets and used baskets for your grocery carts. They are doing in side pickup and delivery (not sure if that's just food or what). There is a big table at the front door with orders pulled for pickup. The shelves are fully stocked with all the booze. They had a good cheese selection and they have limited catering items from the kitchen in the back. All the tables in the kitchen area are pushed together and all the chairs are stored away. So if you're drinking your way through this insanity. Martin's has you covered. read more

Martin Wine Cellar is a lunch tradition for our family during parade season, but I always forget to write a review while it's fresh in mind...until this year. The Californian is good but I expected more. It comes with your choice of wheat or pita, and it's hard to find good pita in stores around here so I was really excited about the pita. Unfortunately, there was no pocket to the pita when I got it, just a sandwich on two pieces of really thin carbs. The turkey was generous and moist, but the flavor a little bland--more like roast chicken. The veggies were all fresh and crisp--or meaty in the case of the tomato--but the sprouts were spare at best...almost homeopathic to be honest. I could have let that slide if it weren't for the cheese. Havarti is not a typical choice for a turkey and avocado sandwich, and I think it would have been amazing if there had been more sprouts. In fairness, I might have felt differently if this had all been on a good wheat bread...but it wasn't. The Cuban was a completely different story. This is so good that it has become a staple for us--other items will vary, but our order always includes a Cuban. The bread is perfect for pressing but doesn't lose its body in the heat and pressure. I've had enough good Cubans that I don't get picky about the specific meats, pickle, or mustard...or even whether there IS or ISN'T mayo. I judge a Cuban on the totality/blend of meat, pickle, and mustard/mayo, and this one hits the sweet spot of sweet, savory, and zing. No disappointment at all. My toddler insisted on a slice of Lemon D'auberge for brunch, and I wasn't going to deny him in Mardi Gras season. It was light, smooth, lemony, and sweet without any zing. It wasn't my favorite but I thought it was good, my French wife complained that it was too sweet and not enough lemon for a lemon cake, and our toddler wouldn't leave the table until he'd eaten every last crumb, so there you go. We'll be back next year, or sooner, and I'll try to be good about posting a review again. Til then, I'll pass on a bit of wisdom that was given to me by a 3rd Grader later the same day: "Don't put anything that smells like Mardi Gras in your mouth." read more

Not only does this place have an extensive liquor selection it has gift bags, gift sets, snacky bites AND a full deli that offers cold and hot sandwiches, salads, pastas, you name it! We tried the burger and the executive club. Both delicious. Fries were so flavorful too. The chicken salad looks incredible as well as their veggie pasta. Today I ordered a Shrimp Po-Boy Special for lunch, did some shopping and waited patiently for my order. It took 35 minutes for one sandwich. One of my coworkers would bring me a Caprese, and I LOVED it. I finally came in for lunch. This place is fabulous! They have a great wine selection, but my lunch companions and I only ate sandwiches and salads. Well, I did have a sangria, which was sweet, fruity, and very refreshing. My Caprese sandwich was great as usual, but the veggie pasta salad was ok. As we were dining, I noticed that there were tables of people sharing bottles of wine. Don't go here for lunch if you don't want to walk in to a war zone. The person taking your order is the first lieutenant and the woman yelling out orders ready for pick up is the general. They both have a look of people who have seen the battlefield strewn with sort of okay sandwiches and decent salads. If they mess up your order in the back then good luck. That's a 40 minute wait for you. Don't you dare tell them how long you've been waiting or else they won't give you any napkins. I ordered the Liddy Special. It was...mediocre. It lacked in the flavor and tasted like I was chewed on a mop that had just finished cleaning spilled Russian Dressing. As for the store itself. Very good selection of beer, liquor and wine. Martin Wine Cellar is one of those Uptown New Orleans institutions that get (or at least got) along fine with word of mouth advertising. That's changed; I do hear occasional ads and sponsorships from Martin's. What's also changed is the venue. Instead of the quirkly old pre-2005-flooding store with that strange big window of glass bricks, the store now occupies a large, modern, airy space just down the block. THe inventory seems larger than before, and the space is seamlessly divided between racks of fine wine and spirits and cafe seating. There's an order-and-pay line attended by staff who are ready to answer questions and even run back for the occasional sample for those who can't decide if they really want the sweet potato or beet concoction-du-jour. In our most recent experience, the shouted pickup instructions got garbled and confused to the point where I put "cluster!" down in my notes. But we all got out food eventually, and hey....that's New Orleans, right? I'm being too severe here. If you can't tolerate a little service inefficiency, you probably should get out of New Orleans altogether. Focus instead on the food: Martin's offers a selection of sandwiches and plate dishes, and nearly always everyone in our party is satsified. On weekends, brunch specials are offered with some light cocktail choices usually involving champagne and fresh fruit. (Yum. I could use one of those right about now). Portions are moderate and reasonable. Finally on your way out, you can pick up such delights as oatmeal chocolate IPA espresso stout or a really good vintage of whatever-nay from Californ-eye-ay or France. I've been coming to Martin Wine Cellar (Wine & Spirits) since the 1990s. I was very happy when they finally rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. I didn't think it could be better, but with the expanded deli, there's so much more to do in the store. Today, I went to get a hamburger because this is one of my favorite places in the city to get one. The meat is high quality and, if you get it dressed, the lettuce and tomato are equally as fresh. There was a special today so that the patty was actually brisket and perhaps a ground meat mixture. It was excellent! I also had a glass of sangria and was blown away with how good and refreshing it was. The reason for my review (finally) is to commend David Martin! There was a small mishap with my order and I asked to speak to someone and he came to me, asked me how he could help and offered to do so. I really enjoyed speaking with him as he listened, didn't offer excuses, and asked me what he could do to correct the situation. The situation was corrected, I sat down at a window table and enjoyed my lunch. Afterwards, I purchased two bottles of Chardonnay and I was very impressed with the young lady at the cash register. I had such a pleasant encounter with both David and the cashier at the front of the store that I knew I had to write about this. I'm sure I would've kept coming here (the burger is amazing), but it's really nice to know this family owned business truly cares about their customers! Keep up the great work! read more

This place is well stocked with premium and some ultra high end spirits. I love when you have an extensive selection of vermouth. We purchased a hard to find Japanese single malt scotch and a nice Cocci white vermouth. They also had a great selection of breads and meats, as well as a great cheese section. By the way if you are hungry before shopping, they have a great deli with plenty of seating. read more

For one of the greatest wine selections in town, this is the spot. Not only is their wine selection expansive, they carry some of the more interesting labels and finds. Their cured meats and cheese selection is also expansive and high quality. Their prepared food options offer a delicious range of hot and cold sandwiches from pastrami to roast beef and cold cuts. It's packed with flavor! It's really nice to have a well rounded one stop shop that offers a high quality selection, especially for a picnic in the park. This is our go-to wine store! The staff is unfailingly helpful and friendly. There is a large selection of wines, beers and spirits. The full-service deli is convivial and makes sandwiches and salads if the highest quality. It is a popular spot for locals, but there is usually seating available. Not far from the St. Charles streetcar line. We have also used their delivery service, that was particularly helpful during the pandemic when we sought to limit our public contact. Went to Martin Wine Cellar for a wine tasting event they were having, Washington and Oregon Walkabout. It was a great event featuring about 20 winners from the Pacific Northwest. There were some really great wines poured and they were all on sale for the entire month! They also catered the event with a couple different options at each table ranging from a cheese plate to chicken satay. The food that I had was well prepared. This was my first trip to Martin and I was blown away by the size and selection of beer, wine, and spirits. They also have a large seating area to enjoy some of the great food made onsite. We of course went shopping once the drinks were flowing and picked up some wine and a mix and match beer 6 pack which is a great feature for trying new things. I am so glad we found Martin Wine Cellar for our future boozy needs. They appear to have quite a few events at reason ticket prices so check them out for that as well.
