    Getting engaged at Martins Beach.
    Cheryl S.

Over 34 years ago I got engaged on that beach. Such great memories. It's such a beautiful spot. They should add a bathroom though.

My favorite beach ever in NorCal so far. I love to see tons of people at the beach, after all I am used to the Mediterranean beaches where you have to fight for a square of sand and you can end up literally throwing the towel to some enemy who passed by leaving you full of sand from their steps. Martin's beach is NOT that kind of beach, all the opposite, so perfect for my not very social boyfriend who prefer complete isolation form the always congested freeways and roads of the Bay Area. After all, a win-win situation: he gets his peace, I get my selfies in an awesome location plus so many cool shots he takes for me too:). We were all WOWs and NIIIIIIIICE. This is a very very beautiful beach. If you wan't to mentally escape, you can think you are in a mini Cabo San Lucas. Gorgeous seascape, rough waters but still you can 'enter in the water if you dare'. Some fishermen (yes, men, sadly I never see fisherwomen) catching nice silver colored fresh perch and very few couples in romantic mood, plus the occasional birthday party celebration and some happy lonely surfer too. All with class, no chumba-chumba, no boomboxes, no strident music, no yelling people, no unbearable kids, no spoiled pet-babies. This beach does not seem to be advertised from the outside parking lot (very small) and there is a big white fence that cars can pass but if you can to park at the very end, close to the beach, you have to pay $10 that goes to help the residents to maintain the beach in good condition (I guess). This is not a beach with toilets or managed by rangers or lifeguards, you are on your own, be respectful, plus you have to do quite a walk if you park on the road until you get to the sand, but it is worth it. I did not see any trash anywhere, just few people behaving and breathing the good vibes of my now declared favorite beach.

Very nice beach in half moon bay! Pretty views and not crowded at all! Parking is $10 and there are no restrooms, but other than that, solid beach to visit!

This beach is very beautiful and not very crowded at all. It is about 40 min from the Palo Alto area. Note the parking: if you drive down the hill you're going to have to pay $10.00 for private parking for the convenience of missing out on a 5 minute walk. Even if you park here you'll still have to walk about 5 minutes through the neighborhood in order to reach the beach. The beach itself: wonderful views, fairly gentle waves, but the sand is very coarse. It can get really hot too so don't recommend walking in the sand without sandals. It was a first initial visit but not sure if I would visit again due to issues of accessibility, and the coarseness of the sand (not fun for kids). Drop by and judge for yourself.

Don't come here, just kidding! This is one of those rare find places for me. Stumbled upon it by my kids intrigued by an obscure road behind a gate while driving on highway 1. Walk about ten minutes down, one passes by tiny beach cottages and other homes lined on the hillside. Beach is beautiful with tall bluffs and a beautiful large coved area of sand with a distinctive rock formation in the ocean.

This place is magical. Great place to visit for that exotic travel destination fix. Dress in layers it can get nippy. Amazing Sunsets Two parking options: 1. Park & pay $10 snaps 2. Park & hike 10 min. Great place to teach the kids to respect Mother Nature. Never turn your back to the ocean waves. Romantic getaway? Rehearse that movie scene in "From Here To Eternity" Checks all the boxes! Enjoy

There is a lady who closed off the road. She is charging for parking cash only you can't get anywhere near the beach.

Is this beach open again, how's parking and can you bring pets?

    Are dogs allowed?

No dogs allowed, unless you live there

Where's the $10 parking?...The reason I ask is because back in the day it was at the bottom by the sand. Just wondering if it's the same or not?

There is no public access by vehicle. You have to park on top and walk the road to the beach. When I took money there, working for Ed and Helen, the parking was $2. Those days are gone.… Read more

Hey thanks. I live on Maui now for the past 10 years.I started fishing at Martins in 1955. Left just before Rich Denny sold the property. Looks like getting into Martins' could be a real problem! Is it a problem?

Hi Sherry, Smelt still run but not like they did back in the 50's through the 70's. My dad and I fished commercially there when there times we could not empty the net without help. Now I hear getting smelt might get you 5 - 10 pounds. Did you… Read more

There's a $10 honorary charge for parking your car where you deposit $10 in cash by the bathrooms although the print is so small I'm pretty half the people there didn't notice at all. Dunes Beach also connects to the rest of the Half Moon Bay Beaches including Venice Beach. Here are some of my observations and things that I liked: - I appreciate that there is both a beach area but also this small park area where people can just watch the views without getting sand on themselves. - As you walk further south along the beach, there becomes a split between the areas vertically along the beach. I'm not sure what the technical name is but there's a running water strait between the sand area which is then kind of hard to continue to walk down the beach as you have to cross the water strait. - The wind is crazy and it is COLD, wear a parka - yes, even when it's July. Okay maybe that's too much but at least bring the option of a parka in case you get cold. Overall, great beach. It does get busy on the weekend though but if you decide to cross the strait, which not many people do, you get to a have a semblance of a private beach.

I recommend driving through Woodside, despite it being a longer route, as the views along the way were stellar. Once you arrive, there's a sandy road leading to a parking lot. The parking lot was mainly full, so we had to park on the side of the road and walk the distance to the parking lot. The parking lot has some horses next to it. It can be a bit confusing once you get to the parking lot.If you want to stand above a cliff and look down, then being at the parking lot is perfect for you. But, if you would like to feel the sand beneath your toes or hop in the ocean for a dip, be ready for a trek down a large cliff. It did feel very scary, intimidating, and dangerous - especially since my friends were carrying large bags down - but it's a necessary evil journey down to enjoy the beach in its full glory. I do not recommend wearing flip flops if you're planning on going down to the beach, as it can be easy to slip down the cliff. I also wouldn't recommend going down if it was raining, as it can be very slippery due the large incline and pure height of the cliff. The beach is really long and was relatively empty when we had climbed down. There aren't any benches to sit on, so bring some seats or blankets to enjoy the view. The water is very cold, like many NorCal beaches, and there weren't any people swimming in it. Despite it turning gloomy, the views from the actual beach were beautiful, and in my opinion, worth the hike down. Also, like other beaches in NorCal, there was a windy breeze so bring a layer! We stayed until dark since we wanted to watch the sunset. If you thought it was hard going down, imagine scaling the cliff, carrying our own bags and trash bags, and in the dark. We had to use our phone flashlights to light the way, as there was no lighting around the beach or any of the cliffs other than some near the parking lot. I recommend just watching the sunset from the top to be safe. Overall, if you're okay with hiking down a cliff to access a beach, or even just admiring the view from the parking lot, Redondo Beach is a viable option for you. It's a bit hard to access and dark at night, but we thought it was totally worth it for the view, beach vibe, and good times with friends. We'll be back for another outing!

Great for a stroll or go biking on their trails or hanging out at the beach and watching the waves from the top cliff or on the beach.
