Pacific coast is so cool and Easy Bay locals can get to this place in about 45 minutes. Follow 92 west to the end and it's a few more miles up highway 1 north on the left. Perfect off leash dog friendly beach. Coastal trail is right there if you prefer asphalt and we walk that too. But the dogs have only one thing on their minds when we arrive here and that's running. This beach can also be referred to as Surfers Beach as on the Apple map. There is a nice looking restaurant, Miramar Beach Restaurant right there, but we haven't eaten there. We probably should have after all the years. You can camp in one of two places, just down the road in HMB marina/harbor if you want to really soak in what's up here. We're early birds and see the traffic get pretty gnarly after around 11 in the summer on our way out. Work checking if you're in the area! read more

Beautiful beach. We walked here along the beach from our hotel. The beach is clean and filled with people. Some people were doing stand up paddle boarding others were wading in the ocean. It's a very family friendly beach. There are also paved trails that go along the beach. We walked back to our hotel along the paved paths. Lots of people were walking their dogs, bikes, and pushing strollers along the path. The Miramar restaurant is on site. They have a private lot. I recommend this beach as one to bring your family too. read more

So, as of this writing, Miramar Beach has 25 reviews and they are all three stars and above. However, the last review was written in 2022 and I feel this page definitely needs some updating. We came to this beach because it was lauded as being dog friendly but there were no dogs to be found...no people either. There is no designated parking area for this beach, so we parked a few blocks away and walked. There didn't appear to be a way to get down and every person and biker that came by continued south past the beach, so we walked across the foot bridge to see where they were going. We continued down the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail on foot until we finally saw people on the beach and as we tried to enter there was a sign advising no dogs were allowed. Walking back towards Miramar, we saw the steps leading down to the beach, we had missed them before because we came from the north. They were disgusting, as was the mucky sand beneath, as was the beach itself. Why the two stars then? Because one is the minimum, but I'm giving another because we found a book in the little community library on the cul-de-sac at the end of Miramar Rd and found a lovely book to read and enjoy at the actual dog friendly beach we ended up at to instead. If you are temped to come here for your dog, don't. This is not where you want to be. read more

It had been almost 9 months since I visited a beach and I was craving being near water. I decided to go really early at 6am to avoid crowds and also to enjoy some alone time. I have been to half moon bay several times before but never to this beach. I happened to discover this beautiful beach by chance as my usual beach's parking lots were closed (they open only at 8am). This beach doesn't have a parking lot but had plenty of street parking. There's a beautiful trail that goes by the beach with access points to the beach. The beach itself was lovely. There were only 3 people on the beach other than me. I enjoyed walking the long stretch and taking in the beauty of nature and water (so calming). There's also a house right on the beach, kinda reminded me of the house/B&B in the movie "Nights of Rodanthe". This will be my go to spot going forward and definitely during early morning hours when no one's around. read more

Breathtaking view of the beach in all it's simplicity. We went here on a whim to just drive the car and see the sights. We parked on the dirt road next to residential houses. and walked around the shore where other people brought their dogs out to play. It was a carefree but clean place (other than the kelp being washed in the shore). We enjoyed our coffee and our walk and the kiddo had a great time with the dogs and the view. We even saw a guy fishing as he was standing in the middle of the beach (on the shallow part) and caught fish! There are also eateries and cafes with outdoor benches for resting and just taking the cool breeze in. Things to remember when going here... - water (and better figure out where the nearest restrooms are) - snacks (nom noms!) - freedom! Came here during Fall for an evening walk to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous sunset and was pleasantly surprised by multiple aspects of my experience 1. While the beach was slightly crowded, it's large enough to make sure that larger groups can still spread across in a socially distant manner 2. Update: Saturday afternoon at this beach- lots of people with small dogs on retractable leashes are apparently afraid of larger dogs approaching their dogs. They should know that: 1) having your dog on leash in an off leash area is dangerous for your dog and also potentially triggering for other dogs to see yours on leash 2) if your dog isn't fixed, that's your problem and not ours. A lady was asking others to keep their dogs away from hers because he was still intact. 3) a dog approaching yours off leash does not warrant you to threaten the dog or make you very afraid. If you don't want off leash dogs near your on leash dog, then don't come to an off leash area. This is one of VERY few places dogs can play off leash. Go to another dog friendly beach. This beach doesn't belong to you. It's a public beach that allows off leash dogs. Let them be dogs. Dog friendly off leash beach?! Say less Visited Miramar on a cold and cloudy Sunday evening. There were still a couple dogs playing and the locals are VERY nice! The beach is clean and there is a big stretch to walk up and down. The only thing is to watch out for anything that washes up shore! There was a huge salmon that the dogs had to avoid. Highly recommend. Be warned of people who are not "dog smart" read more

Came here last month with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon. At the time that we arrived the street parking was already full but we were lucky enough to have found a parking spot. There were a lot people at the beach but they were social distancing. The beach was nice and clean. The weather was nice and sunny but it was kind of windy too. We stayed here for a few hours and we got to see the sunset. We both enjoyed a nice relaxing day by the water. read more

Gorgeous! God sent! Family and dog friendly. Coffee, hotels, cute hiking and restaurants with beautiful views nearby. Parking is slim but once you find one, you are in heaven. There is an art studio across the street with the coolest art near the beach walk and live art happening while you enjoy the views. Love this place! One of my favorite spots in this entire world! Miramar beach can be open and inviting. Without warning it can throw you onto the rocks only to drag you out to sea. Never turn your back on Miramar Beach. The access to the beach is provided courtesy of Miramar Beach residents and is a bit risky. This is definitely not a beach with "easy" access. I can sit on my rock and stare at the horizon for hours. If the tide is just right you may be able to see dolphins surfing, a friendly California sea lion or a giant awe inspiring humpback whale. It can take your breath away. Please leave our beach as you found it. Trash is bad for our sea creatures. Leave only the view. read more

This is a beautiful beach right off highway 1 in Half Moon Bay, CA. There is a rock wall right next to the narrow, one lane street which would be beach too had it not been paved. My friend climbed down the rocks easily and sauntered up the beach. I wouldn't recommend that a kid or anyone who isn't in great physical shape try doing it as well. We were there for the sunset which was a slow, burning globe that slipped into the ocean. The beach was clean. There are apartments and homes nearby along with what looked like a b&b. There's also a restaurant with valet parking in a small lot. read more

Nice beach for a holiday weekend! (Only 3 stars b/c this ain't Hawaii)! Drove down to meet friends. Traffic along the coast was terrible. Started getting car sick ;( Happily reached our destination. We parked near Miramar Beach Restaurant on a residential street. Walked down the rock path and found our buds. Enjoyed a pleasant picnic. The sun was shining bright enough to wear shorts! The water was still ice cold but some of our friends jumped in. Lots of families and their dogs played on this beach. Fun to see all the pups :) Our friend brought his surfboard and wetsuit, & attempted to catch some waves, as we cheered him on. After our beach adventures, we drove over to El Granada/Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay (only five minutes away) and had dinner. Very relaxing time! We need to come out here more! Our friends got a nice harbor front AirBnB for only $90/night. read more

Good beach to bring dogs for some off leash time and a good walk. You'll need to walk back and forth a few times to get enough excercise. Three stars because each time we've gone the beach, there has been something to knock it down a bit. One day there were a bunch of jellyfish that had washed up onto shore (not a big deal but with an off leash dog that can get a bit interesting..). Another time there must have been 10 dead seagulls across the stretch of the beach just sitting in the sand. Again, not great if your goal is to have the dog off leash. read more

This place is amazing! Dog friendly and the water is also very calm. Parking is a little tough if you're not going to eat at the restaurant near the beach which has vallet parking, you might have to arrive a little earlier to get a good spot. I would also recommend looking on the Internet if there is going to be high tide because you probably won't even be able to get on the sand because it's full of water! Unless you're a surfer it might be great.. but it sucks when you drive all the way there with your friends and are disappointed to not even get to go on the beach. Lovely sand and gorgeous views on this beach but I went there because it's the only off-leash dog beach in San Mateo County, so this review is from a dog owner's perspective. Make sure you only go at low tide or the beach may be washed out, and if your dog has a tendency to run off, watch your dog carefully when you walk south as the embankment up to the road is very low in some areas so dogs could easily run up it and take off. Miramar Beach runs for about 1/2 mile south of the entrance path by Miramar Inn, and after that it turns into Roosevelt Beach where dogs are prohibited; a local told me the rangers patrol there frequently. The local also said you're safe to just after the condo complex and a tiny bit further. To the north, dogs are allowed all the way to the end, through Surfers Beach, but again, be careful at the very end as there's a short path leading up to the very busy Highway 1. There was no doggy bag container anymore when I was there this month (another reviewer mentioned there was), so make sure to bring your own bags. There is a garbage can by the entrance path. No water or restrooms. The path is slightly steep and uneven, but short. It's located to the north of Miramar Inn at the corner of Magellan & Mirada. read more

This is an excellent beach for those who would like to take their dogs off leash. There is free roadside parking. The beach is very clean and our dog loves it. The sand is nice, I would recommend Miramar Beach especially for dog owners. read more
