So, as of this writing, Miramar Beach has 25 reviews and they are all three stars and above. However, the last review was written in 2022 and I feel this page definitely needs some updating. We came to this beach because it was lauded as being dog friendly but there were no dogs to be found...no people either. There is no designated parking area for this beach, so we parked a few blocks away and walked. There didn't appear to be a way to get down and every person and biker that came by continued south past the beach, so we walked across the foot bridge to see where they were going. We continued down the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail on foot until we finally saw people on the beach and as we tried to enter there was a sign advising no dogs were allowed. Walking back towards Miramar, we saw the steps leading down to the beach, we had missed them before because we came from the north. They were disgusting, as was the mucky sand beneath, as was the beach itself. Why the two stars then? Because one is the minimum, but I'm giving another because we found a book in the little community library on the cul-de-sac at the end of Miramar Rd and found a lovely book to read and enjoy at the actual dog friendly beach we ended up at to instead. If you are temped to come here for your dog, don't. This is not where you want to be.

This beach is AWESOME! We rented an airbnb that was walking distance. Lots of friendly people and dogs! We saw the most dogs on our early morning. Later in the day we didn't see nearly as many.

It had been almost 9 months since I visited a beach and I was craving being near water. I decided to go really early at 6am to avoid crowds and also to enjoy some alone time. I have been to half moon bay several times before but never to this beach. I happened to discover this beautiful beach by chance as my usual beach's parking lots were closed (they open only at 8am). This beach doesn't have a parking lot but had plenty of street parking. There's a beautiful trail that goes by the beach with access points to the beach. The beach itself was lovely. There were only 3 people on the beach other than me. I enjoyed walking the long stretch and taking in the beauty of nature and water (so calming). There's also a house right on the beach, kinda reminded me of the house/B&B in the movie "Nights of Rodanthe". This will be my go to spot going forward and definitely during early morning hours when no one's around.

Breathtaking view of the beach in all it's simplicity. We went here on a whim to just drive the car and see the sights. We parked on the dirt road next to residential houses. and walked around the shore where other people brought their dogs out to play. It was a carefree but clean place (other than the kelp being washed in the shore). We enjoyed our coffee and our walk and the kiddo had a great time with the dogs and the view. We even saw a guy fishing as he was standing in the middle of the beach (on the shallow part) and caught fish! There are also eateries and cafes with outdoor benches for resting and just taking the cool breeze in. Things to remember when going here... - water (and better figure out where the nearest restrooms are) - snacks (nom noms!) - freedom! (Realize that the important things in life is free - fresh air, the sun and the company of family who loves you)

A Day At The Beach By Marie Matheny The sun and sand go hand in hand. The sound of constant waves - There's a smell of salt in the air. The ocean is seen through a haze. The parents bring their children And watch them play in the sand. They help them jump the waves By holding little hands. The teens exude vitality and youth. They know they're coming of age. They strut and prance and dance around As if they were on stage. Lovers strolling hand in hand Enjoy their day of sun and sand. They seem to think they're all alone - The crowded beach on which they roam. The old move slow and steady Thinking it's no notion. This could be the last time They get to see the ocean. The seagulls glide in circles. It seems without a care, But really they are searching A crumb to catch mid-air. Scattered on the beach Are castles made of sand. Some are small and messy - Others big and grand. If one is lucky, While looking out to sea They may spot some dolphins Swimming gracefully. A day at the beach is not complete Without catching the perfect wave Or gathering shells along the shore - Souvenirs of a perfect day...

Came here during Fall for an evening walk to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous sunset and was pleasantly surprised by multiple aspects of my experience 1. While the beach was slightly crowded, it's large enough to make sure that larger groups can still spread across in a socially distant manner 2. There's a huge parking lot right opposite the beach on the other side of the crossing 3. There's ~2 miles of walkable land here , most of which is clean and well maintained

Came here last month with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon. At the time that we arrived the street parking was already full but we were lucky enough to have found a parking spot. There were a lot people at the beach but they were social distancing. The beach was nice and clean. The weather was nice and sunny but it was kind of windy too. We stayed here for a few hours and we got to see the sunset. We both enjoyed a nice relaxing day by the water.

Gorgeous! God sent! Family and dog friendly. Coffee, hotels, cute hiking and restaurants with beautiful views nearby. Parking is slim but once you find one, you are in heaven. There is an art studio across the street with the coolest art near the beach walk and live art happening while you enjoy the views. Love this place! One of my favorite spots in this entire world! LOL cheezy I know...but lots of amazing memories here :)

Miramar beach can be open and inviting. Without warning it can throw you onto the rocks only to drag you out to sea. Never turn your back on Miramar Beach. The access to the beach is provided courtesy of Miramar Beach residents and is a bit risky. This is definitely not a beach with "easy" access. I can sit on my rock and stare at the horizon for hours. If the tide is just right you may be able to see dolphins surfing, a friendly California sea lion or a giant awe inspiring humpback whale. It can take your breath away. Please leave our beach as you found it. Trash is bad for our sea creatures. Leave only the view.

This is a beautiful beach right off highway 1 in Half Moon Bay, CA. There is a rock wall right next to the narrow, one lane street which would be beach too had it not been paved. My friend climbed down the rocks easily and sauntered up the beach. I wouldn't recommend that a kid or anyone who isn't in great physical shape try doing it as well. We were there for the sunset which was a slow, burning globe that slipped into the ocean. The beach was clean. There are apartments and homes nearby along with what looked like a b&b. There's also a restaurant with valet parking in a small lot.

Great day at this beach! Big, clean and dog friendly!! We visited on a Wednesday, so I'm not sure how the crowds would be on the weekend. We'll definitely be back!

We took our dog here couple times. Lovely and clean. We saw sea lion or seal swimming/playing near the shore. Beach is clean. Access and parking can be a bit tricky. There are also a few restaurants and coffee shops near by.

There's a $10 honorary charge for parking your car where you deposit $10 in cash by the bathrooms although the print is so small I'm pretty half the people there didn't notice at all. Dunes Beach also connects to the rest of the Half Moon Bay Beaches including Venice Beach. Here are some of my observations and things that I liked: - I appreciate that there is both a beach area but also this small park area where people can just watch the views without getting sand on themselves. - As you walk further south along the beach, there becomes a split between the areas vertically along the beach. I'm not sure what the technical name is but there's a running water strait between the sand area which is then kind of hard to continue to walk down the beach as you have to cross the water strait. - The wind is crazy and it is COLD, wear a parka - yes, even when it's July. Okay maybe that's too much but at least bring the option of a parka in case you get cold. Overall, great beach. It does get busy on the weekend though but if you decide to cross the strait, which not many people do, you get to a have a semblance of a private beach.

I recommend driving through Woodside, despite it being a longer route, as the views along the way were stellar. Once you arrive, there's a sandy road leading to a parking lot. The parking lot was mainly full, so we had to park on the side of the road and walk the distance to the parking lot. The parking lot has some horses next to it. It can be a bit confusing once you get to the parking lot.If you want to stand above a cliff and look down, then being at the parking lot is perfect for you. But, if you would like to feel the sand beneath your toes or hop in the ocean for a dip, be ready for a trek down a large cliff. It did feel very scary, intimidating, and dangerous - especially since my friends were carrying large bags down - but it's a necessary evil journey down to enjoy the beach in its full glory. I do not recommend wearing flip flops if you're planning on going down to the beach, as it can be easy to slip down the cliff. I also wouldn't recommend going down if it was raining, as it can be very slippery due the large incline and pure height of the cliff. The beach is really long and was relatively empty when we had climbed down. There aren't any benches to sit on, so bring some seats or blankets to enjoy the view. The water is very cold, like many NorCal beaches, and there weren't any people swimming in it. Despite it turning gloomy, the views from the actual beach were beautiful, and in my opinion, worth the hike down. Also, like other beaches in NorCal, there was a windy breeze so bring a layer! We stayed until dark since we wanted to watch the sunset. If you thought it was hard going down, imagine scaling the cliff, carrying our own bags and trash bags, and in the dark. We had to use our phone flashlights to light the way, as there was no lighting around the beach or any of the cliffs other than some near the parking lot. I recommend just watching the sunset from the top to be safe. Overall, if you're okay with hiking down a cliff to access a beach, or even just admiring the view from the parking lot, Redondo Beach is a viable option for you. It's a bit hard to access and dark at night, but we thought it was totally worth it for the view, beach vibe, and good times with friends. We'll be back for another outing!

From the parking lot at the end of Wavecrest Rd., there's a myriad of paths and no signage. From the beginning, I should have read Kelly M's review where she describes her good fortune of a hiker directing her where to go in order to see the Secret Tunnel. Because I hadn't read the review, I was asking a bunch of hikers where to find this Secret Tunnel, but they were as befuddled as I was and were asking me if I knew where the beach access is located. Now that I have experience, here's the path you should take. To hike through Secret Tunnel, go right toward the trees from the parking lot, which has the cleanest port-o-potties next to the baseball field. At the curve you'll be in the trees and can kind of see the arch of trees. Take this path and take photos. Continue along this path to the beach, then turn right again until you get to the paid parking lot. In the lot, there are more port-o-potties, but dreadfully not very clean and lack toilet paper. Along the walkway, there are stairs that lead to the beach where you will find experienced beach goers and plenty of well behaved dogs and many wash-up sail jellyfish which I mistook for mussel shells. For the route back to the parking lot, either go back the same way you came or walk along coastal path and turn left before the gorge.
