I can't thank Dr. Abelar and Sleep Director Thomas enough in helping replace my old oral device for sleep apnea! Right from the beginning, Sleep Director Thomas was extremely friendly and helpful in setting up for Home Sleep Study and initial appointment. He initiated research on the manufacturer of my old oral device and worked closely with Dr. Abelar to find the best oral device options for me. After much thought and research, Dr. Abelar decided to fabricate a custom ProSomnus EVO oral airway for me. Office manager Debbie was highly efficient and helpful with my insurance coverage. During my initial visit, Dr. Abelar took time to understand my history of sleep apnea, reviewed the results of my Sleep Study, and discussed the best options for my new oral device. Then everything went very smoothly, from imaging to taking molds to completion.The new oral device fit so well that it did Not require Any adjustment at all--I was utterly amazed! What a horrible office team and experience with this place. For one, they will send you multiple texts and alerts of appointments. Even when you Opt out to Stop or confirm, you constantly get these annoying reminders. I had services of fillings and deep cleaning done on July 10. Today is Oct 8th and I am now getting an additional invoice from them Asking for more money. After, I already made a payment and was told everything remaining was taken care of by insurance. Then here comes THREE MONTHS later with an outstanding invoice to be paid within 10 days. BS. When I came in and called Kelly about it last month she said to disregard any balance statements as it will be cleared with insurance and assured me I had NO balance. Until now she's saying sorry insurance didn't cover what we thought giving me a bunch a BS. The miscommunication is that they should have got the correct estimate to begin with. And why does it take so long for you to submit to insurance and bill the "correct" amount three months after my service. No apology, she had the nerve to tell me what inconvenience was I caused. How about your lack of accuracy and diligence. After trying to have patience with this damn place and even tried to reason to see if they would honor the yelp deal of $75 for $150 services or any kind of courtesy discount on the invoice in order to keep good faith and have me stay as a customer, they decided to stick me with a bill that is 3 months old. So now I am paying this BS balance and looking for a new dentist who will have their office more together and precise on how to treat their clients. read more

Dr. Abelar has been my Dentist for around 10 years. I recently went through a situation where I had a toothache. I was able to get an appointment that same day with him and he spent a considerable amount of time reviewing xrays and reassuring me. A few days later he returned my call and again was able to reassure me regarding the situation with the tooth. In the past, my teeth have been a sensitive issue for me. A few years ago he replaced a damaged crown (replaced due to the age of the crown) and I was very happy with the results. His office staff is professional and very helpful. read more

I've honestly never been particularly satisfied with my dental care in the past. I have TMJ disorder that has been a major issue in my life, and my teeth have always been a mess. I've had crowns done before with multiple other providers, the result is always the same- the bite is a little off, I get migraines, they can't seem to adjust it adequately, and I end up wishing I had never gone in. Recently I had another one of these old crowns fail, along with the neighboring tooth breaking in half, and with dread, I began looking for a dentist. A friend with TMJ disorder recommended I see Dr. Abelar, and I'm quite pleased I followed her advice. Dr. Abelar himself seems, to me, a bit distant and reserved in terms of bedside manner, but the work he does is incomparable. The adjustment of the bite on my new crowns was so meticulous, requiring many many tiny adjustments before he was satisfied enough to cement them in place, that for the first time in my life, following crown placement, there is not a single high spot, awkward spot, grinding spot, banging spot- nothing. The bite meets flawlessly on both sides like nothing was ever disturbed. To that end, I cannot recommend this office highly enough, particularly if you have TMJ disorder or malocclusion. I intend to have extensive further work done at this office, and will continue to update as I go, but after this experience I'm quite confident going ahead here with a major and overdue dental overhaul. read more

I had a dental emergency and my regular dentist did not have emergency or after hour services. I met Dr. Abelar at a few events and knew he was a professional dentist so I contacted him and he said that he would be happy to see me and see if he could be of any help. I was able to see him 20 mins after my phone call to him. His office is very conveniently located to my home and was able to get there in 10 mins. When I arrived he greeted me and took X-rays and told me the best suggestion he had to alleviate all the pain I was in was to extract the tooth. I happily agreed and in a matter of minutes the tooth was removed and I was on my way to healing. Dr. Abelar is extremely knowledgeable, professional and one of the best. Glad to now have him as my dentist as well as a friend. I highly recommend him to everyone!! read more

I've had my share of so-called negative experiences when it comes to the dentist, so it's refreshing when you encounter great dental establishments like Dr. Martin Abelar's. The establishment is extremely clean and organized and up-to-date on equipment. I know I've been in dental offices where things weren't as tidy as they could have been or seem to skip out on updating dental chairs or equipment, but I don't get that at all here and that's something I greatly appreciate as a patient. The staff is warm, friendly and approachable. Dr. Abelar is truly a genuine and knowledgeable professional. He makes me feel at ease while still maintaining the highest degree of professionalism. So let me update this, given that the doctor decided to write a reply to my post after ignoring it for 3 years. Given that he was not involved in the billing situation (his rude secretary was), I am sure that he remembers everything very vividly. The appointment was in December 2010 and the collection has already been posted on her credit history in May 2011. Didn't count a year no matter what calendar I have used. Regardless, you promised to charge my card after your computer system was fixed, you had my contact information on file but instead of giving me a call for payment (as promised) you decided to screw with my girlfriend's credit / well being. All the staff here are wonderful. The studio is exquisitely spotless, tranquil, and doesn't feel as sterile as many other dentistry offices...it doesn't have that dentist smell. All the chairs are set up with client's privacy in mind. My technician was so sweet. She was friendly but not overly talkative, and explained every detail of what she was doing to me. She periodically checked in with me to see how I was doing: thank you! I was greeted by name with a huge smile from everyone- the receptionist, Dr.Abelar, and my technician, even though I am a rather new patient. I HATE that horrid gritty toothpaste that they use but she made sure the unpleasantness of this experience was minimized for me. Bottom line = Super fine work. First, I'd like to start by saying the receptionist and the nurses are WONDERFUL. However, I can't say the same about Martin Abelar. He reconnected one of my teeth to a permanent retainer in a way that caused all of my teeth to move (which they are still to this day). When I went in recently for a cleaning he came over to where I was and I talked to him all about what happened and how it happened and I made it very clear that it happened when he reconnected the bar to a tooth making the bar crooked and moving my teeth in the direction of the crooked tooth. He then proceeded to try and sell me on buying Inviziline from him. So he created a problem in my mouth and then tried to turn around and get more money out of me for something that he caused. Can't stand the guy. Only in it for the money. read more

A few months ago I decided to have a 20-year old crown replaced on a front tooth that I broke in my youth. Naturally I was apprehensive because the work would affect my smile. After checking out a few web sites, I decided to meet Dr. Abelar for a consultation. He and his assistants walked me through the procedure and the results I should expect. The following week I went in to the office and had the temporary crown done which frankly, looked so good that I wanted to keep it. A week later Dr. Abelar gave me the permanent crown. The crown's size, shape, color, and the gum line around it are all perfect. Using his magnifying mirror I cannot tell the difference between my natural front tooth and the crown. He hit a home run! I cannot overstate the entire staff's high degree of professionalism. Everyone is wonderful, and I have since become a regular patient for the remainder of my dental needs and ongoing maintenance. read more

All details are handled, like warming up the rinse water because I am cold sensitive, and painting desensitizing gel on my gums before a cleaning to make it more comfortable. For me trips to the dentist regardless of the reason is always filled with apprehension. That changed when I started using Dr. Abelar. Jody takes the fear and concern out of cleanings and check ups and Dr. Abelar is just the best I've used in my 65 years. He is kind and listens and understands my fears. I first went to Aesthetic Dentistry over 20 years ago to fix failing dental work done by poorly executed procedures I had when living in the UK. Not only did Dr. Abelar restore my oral health, but in doing so, he also gave me a smile I really could be proud of. His care, expertise, and warmth extended to his entire staff, and I continued my regular cleanings and checkups with his practice every year since. Recently, when I needed a bit more dental work, Dr. Abelar went to great lengths, including referring me to an outside endodontist, to ensure I'd get the best procedure possible. This recent visit involved a semiannual teeth cleaning, which was performed by the gold standard of all hygentist's, Jody. She is a compassionate advocate for your health and well being. By following her hygiene recommendations, my margins were virtually all 2 and 3. I used to have undergo deep cleanings for all 4 quadrants. These are now a thing of the past. Her help has virtually eliminated tooth decay, produced a healthy smile, and eliminated unwanted hours in the dental office and has saved me a lot of money! I would not recommend this dentist to anyone. I had cosmetic dental work done and there were problems. Dr. Abelar admitted that the work was not done correctly and that it would have to be redone. I was not happy about this but relieved that he was willing to redo the work. Then he evaporated and refused to take my calls or schedule an appointment to redo the work. He denied ever agreeing to correct the work. He refused to return my thousands of dollars prepaid in full. I prepaid because he seemed like an honest guy and he assured me that if there were any problems that they would be fixed to my satisfaction.He said he stands behind his work. I wish I had never gone to him. My teeth are ruined and he kept the money. Go to the San Diego Court site and look up his name and you will see a long list of legal cases involving him. I was very impressed with the beautiful office when I first walked in. The front desk lady, Kelly is the first person and the last person one sees in this gorgeous office. It's great when one walks into an office for the first time to meet a lovely lady as Kelly as she has a beautiful smile and a friendly personality. She takes care of all the billing and setting appointments. The office has state of the art technology. Dr. Abelar is very professional and all business! He was totally focused, fast, and was overall excellent when he changed my silver fillings to white! He is very intelligent and I feel confident in him in as a dentist. I absolutely love Charlotte! She not only is my friend from 7th grade, but she was the one who recommended this beautiful office which is conveniently located in my neighborhood of work and home. Charlotte has great a great bedside manner and accommodates me with a pillow for my neck every time I sit in the dentist's chair. She is always making sure I feel comfortable every time I come to visit. Charlotte and Dr. Abelar work great together, they both even made me feel like a Queen after they "crowned" and saved my tooth!
