The straightforward name of this inn says it all: it strips away all the distractions to focus you on how peaceful and beautiful this town is. Rooms: There are 10 rooms in this 2 storey inn (5 on each floor). The rooms are clean and immaculately designed (great local art). The beds are really comfortable, with plump comforters and fluffy pillows. The bathroom is modern, with good water pressure. The room is also well furnished, with a tv, mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and toaster oven. Wifi is strong enough, which is an essential since phone signal on the island isn't always the best. Oh, and my wife lived in the bathrobe they provided the whole time we were there since she said it was spa-like haha! Finally, whichever room you book has a view of the water, which allows you to watch the sunset from the comforts of your bed. Second floor rooms give you a further view of the harbour and town from the balcony, while first floor rooms allow you to walk out to the edge of the water. Either way, the rooms at the Inn at Gore Bay are a definite winner! "Amenities": There's a restaurant right by the inn called 1890. It's helmed by chef Alberto, who studied at the George Brown culinary school, and it shows as his dishes are really tasty (albeit a bit pricey). Other than the restaurant, there's a good hiking trail a couple of minutes away, which leads you to the main lookout point in the whole Gore Bay (East Bluff Lookout). There aren't other amenities like gyms and pools and all that, but you really don't need those because of all the natural surroundings and activities you can do. I came here during fall, so not sure if they offer summer/winter activities. Location: As mentioned, located right at the edge of the harbour/lake, so that in itself is fantastic. It's also steps away from a beautiful boardwalk that leads you to a park (fully equipped with a children's playground, basketball and tennis courts). Finally, it's also a 5 minute walk away from the main street of Gore Bay which has cute little shops, restaurants, a grocery, bank, library, etc. Service: Tammy and her team are top notch. During the time of covid, they provided seamless service to ensure our safety (self check-in/out, basic cleaning like changing of towels/sheets as requested and taking out the trash to minimize contact, delivering the complimentary breakfast the night before, etc). Tammy was also very quick to respond via text to any questions/concerns that we had. And the one time we did actually see her in person, she was friendly, had such a great energy, and clearly loved the island. Overall: Highly recommend staying here if you visit Manitoulin. It will definitely make you fall in love with the island and the friendly people in it.

Gore Bay is absolutely charming in the fall. Warm and quick service by Tammy and team from check-in, dinner reservation and coordinating contact less breakfast and room supplies. I appreciated all there efforts to make us as comfortable and safe during covid pandemic. Room was well stocked with supplies and amenities. Very thoughtfully renovated and has touches of local art. Had my best night sleep in ages as bedding was so comfortable. Loved the linens and bathrobe from local store Linen and Lavander. Had 2 dinner reservations at 1890 Restaurant. Enjoyed the menu choices presented by Alberto. Alberto and Tammy certainly know how to manage a boutique hotel and restaurant! (will post my restaurant review separately) Manitoulin Island was magical and a lot of best impressions were of Inn at Gore Bay. Planning to return next summer! Highly recommended

Someone recommended a restaurant in this town for fish and chips, but it was already closed for the season so we stumbled upon this place across the street. It's a very laid back family style restaurant (and lodging) and it was cute to see the waitress addressing us as "yous" i.e. the plural of "you". I knew at that point that this place would serve good food. Their menu is quite simple - fried this and fried that - and I asked if they could make fish sans the mandatory thick greasy batter. Ofcourse, said the waitress, and she suggested a fish burger which would have fresh white fish caught earlier that day. Let's do that, we said, and sure enough the food was one the tastiest I fish and chips experience I had.

Quite a few bottled beers available, house red & white wine, and cocktails. There isn't much open in Killarney after tourist season ends, so we had dinner at the Pines Inn two nights in a row. The weather was great, so we spent the first night on the almost-full patio. The service was a bit slow, but apparently they were short staffed, and there wasn't any rush. We had deep fried mushroom caps for an appetizer (most apps were some variety of deep fried). It was a good-sized serving, and cooked well. My partner had a chicken ceasar wrap, and I had the philly cheesesteak on a flatbread. Both were quite good, and the server didn't try and push fries on us. We weren't planning on coming back the second night, but our first choice closed early. We arrived a bit later and decided to dine inside. The decor is very casual, with some local art, and dartboards on the walls. Having seen the pizza the night before, I had to order it, and I was not disappointed. The "Canadian" we ordered was packed with pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, with plenty of cheese and sauce. The crust could use some improvement, it was likely pre-made from frozen. Still, the rest more than made up for it. We had a ceasar salad as an appetizer, and it was more than enough for two people, well-dressed, with lots of bacon. I'll definitely return next time I visit Killarney.

From the minute we walked in and were greeted by Shirin, the owner, it felt as though we were a part of someone's home and were welcomed and we cozied in immediately thanks to her big smile and warm enthusiasm. The prime rib that was prepared by the chef, Bob, who is the owner and husband of wonderful hostess Shirin was the best beef I have ever tasted in my life! It simply melted in your mouth, it was cooked to absolute perfection and the most tender meat you can imagine. Served alongside was a delicious fresh creamed horseradish sauce, decadent new potatoes mashed with fresh garlic and steamed garden vegetables. Of course there were delicacies of appetizers and a beautiful ceasar salad, etc. Wonderful chocolate cake with a maple and orange peel glaze filling and goodies that I can go on about.... The service and the food are simply outstanding!! And so although this restaurant is a little out of the way and you are best to have reservations because there is limited seating but it is so absolutely worth the drive! You will think you are in heaven ... and the views are spectacular also!! I did not even get to mention how spectacular the views and location is.... You must go here!!

She will attack you with her wagging tail and will expect nothing less than a good rub! Then you will greeted by the most wonderful inn keepers around. Dianne and Jeff are two extremely energetic and thoughtful individuals. They respect your privacy and are so welcoming into their home. Here comes the best part. The rooms! If you are there strictly to sleep, the upstairs have 2 rooms with ensuite bathrooms. There is a wrap around deck that overlooks Miller Lake. If you are like me though, you may want to spend some time in your vacation home... this is where the Moondance suite will come into play. Its in the lower level and comes complete with a living room, wood stove, bar, bathroom with Sauna (safari inspired!) and then the best part, a private hot tub that over looks the sunset over miller lake! There is also a BBQ to cook a delicious meal on. You will wake up in the morning to the smell of amazing homemade muffins / baked goods baking in the oven. Dianne will then shower you with some of the best breakfast cooking ever. She makes a mean Eggs Benedict, a delicious Pancakes with a Banana and walnut glaze, and a fabulous Frittata. You will never leave with an empty stomach. One last thing I should mention.. the soap is made from goats milk (www.theudderfarm.com) which leaves your skin so soft and the bed sheets are so comfortable, its like taking a nap on cloud 8. The price is right and Tobermory is a cool vacation destination.. so head on over to Cloud 8 and be sure to say hi to Dianne and Jeff for me!

The 5-room bed and breakfast is located on the main strip in town. Most other places are motels and hotels that have nothing on offering a cozy place like home away from home, but where you're not making your bed and cooking your breakfast. Speaking of that breakfast, you get a full selection of fruits, cereals, yogurt, granola, toast, baked goods from bagels to muffins to croissants, and heartier items like hard cooked eggs, cheese, ham/cold cut meats, and with the new ownership for the last 2 years, bacon, sausages, and heated items like spanakopita style puff pastry with feta and spinach, fried potatoes, and even spring rolls. Best of all, you eat it in a beautiful 3 table dining area with the most fabulous view of the bay and boats in a front room glassed in like a sun room. If you choose one of the 2 front rooms that have direct access to the shared balcony, you wake up to a second story view of the bay with a slide of your door to sit on the balcony and watch the sun rise over Little Tub harbour. You will have to share the bathroom with the other of those 2 rooms, but it's a fair enough trade-off to get dibs on that balcony every morning. If you choose one of the other 2 rooms at the back of the house, you get your own ensuite bathroom. If you do have to use the shared bathroom, the silver lining is the skylight in that one. If you have to settle for it, there's a fifth bedroom on the main floor, which also has its own bathroom, but is off the kitchen. This settling for is of course relative to the other 4 rooms as those have their special perks. Guests have use of a large and comfy living room, which does have a television, although I've seen it used only once in all the years we've stayed. There's a selection of books to read and board/table games to play. There's a small guest fridge to store a few drinks. There are guest slippers to use on your way in, and a cold water dispenser to fill up your bottles on your way out. When you're done for the day, you can brew a tea bag or instant coffee, and use the mugs and glasses provided. Stay includes your usual bath linens, robes, and Wi-Fi. Not so usual on top of that, Peter your friendly host will meet you and greet you, and give you the skinny on the season's goods. Thank you Peter for another wonderful stay. We'll be back again.
