The meal began with a complementary demitasse of orange spice tea and a small piece if a scone. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with potato salad ($15) and a pot of Earl Grey tea ($5). The sandwich was great with the right proportion of meat, cheese and sauerkraut. The potato salad was heavy on potato and little else and no seasoning. I should have opted for the chips. Service was good and responsive and the atmosphere is bright, airy, and cheerful. Worth a try. read more

Really adorable place with a decent menu. Loved the ambience and service. Sandwiches were good and prices were reasonable. We enjoyed strolling around their gardens and our girls had fun taking photos in the area. I didn't pay attention to their plant variety, but they seemed to have plenty of options. Their gift shop is super cute with plenty of small gifts to choose from. The only thing I didn't like is the tea they were offering. The tea itself had a great taste. However, it wasn't a freshly brewed tea. They sell it in a bag, kind of like a kool-aid powder. The ingredients were not the best with Sucralose, dextrose, cane sugar and lots of artificial dyes. I love coming here! It is the perfect environment for a garden lover! I'm giving 4 stars for the reasons you'll see below. The Cafe: The lunch here is AMAZING!!! The food is fresh and delicious. I ordered the Martha's Bloomers Special. It comes with a half a sandwich (I had the ham and swiss), a cup of soup and a salad. Try Estella's Strawberry Salad. It is SO good, I'm making it at home! The tomato soup is also very good. I love the chunks of tomato. My other half ordered Bonnie's New York Reuben and loved it! The homemade chips are delicious! My only recommendation to the manager is to make sure your employees smile and pay more attention to their customers. Our server has frequently disappeared when we visit. The Gift Shop: They have a nice selection of gifts. Holiday items, honey, cookware, soaps and more. It's just a little pricy. The Garden Center: They have a wonderful selection of plants, herbs and more. There is pottery and decorative items for your garden. They also carry dirt and fertilizers. A very kind greeting upon entrance, and an immediate response on a inquiry of price for an outdoor item without needing to check. This tells me they know the products which I very much appreciate. The price point is higher as others have mentioned, but indoor selection of gifts was great. The plant selection was less than stellar and definitely has room for improvement. Types of plants being labeled as annual, perennial, etc is lacking and there aren't any houseplants aside from pothos. Houseplants are often where some serious money is, especially being so close to a college town. But with the other prices, I'd presume they'd be overpriced as well to the point they wouldn't be sold well, which might be why they aren't there in the first place. My husband and I took his sister out for a nice lunch at this café. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Each dish was delicious and presented based. Staff was very friendly and courteous. We also enjoyed the tea and the scones that were given to us. There was one person in particular that did it and outstanding job. His name is Rodney. This is such a lovely place to have lunch! Its not for men. Its a tearoom. Beautifully decorated and always such great waitstaff. The sandwiches and soups are so yummy! Not to mention the complimentary tea and shortbread that you get upon arrival. My Mom & I love the leisurely drive to Navasota to have lunch on weekends and then after lunch there is the lovely store to browse through. I love the cats that roam the property. Martha's Bloomers came highly recommended by my boss, so we decided to check it out. My friend is a bona fide tearoom freak, so I knew she would love it. We got there, looked around in the little store and garden, and then made our way back to the restaurant part. We waited. And waited. And waited. No one was at the host stand, there were people waiting, and we weren't sure what the heck was going on. Finally, at least fifteen minutes later (not even exaggerating), a very frazzled lady walked into the waiting room. She basically ignored the three of us, and we had to tell her that we needed to get on the wait list. She said it would be 15-20 minutes. Ugh. Of course. We should've just left at that point. Thirty minutes later (at least - again, not exaggerating) we saw people that walked up after us get seated. That was it. We had wasted 45 minutes just trying to get seated at 2 pm on a Friday! Come on! We walked back up to the room, and were ignored again. She finally spoke to us and said, "You're next on the list to be seated, I'm the only one hosting and cleaning up tables today". Sorry, but not my problem. Having worked in a restaurant and retail, I'm pretty forgiving - but I have my limits. Then, not 5 minutes later, she calls out for *another* party. My friend gave her the look from hell, and the lady had the cojones to say, "You're next". Hello? She continued the death ray glance and the lady finally gave in and seated us. Seriously. What a bunch of crap. THEN, we finally got a waitress (after watching others that came in after us be helped) and they were out of basically everything we wanted. If you're out of things, you should probably erase the menu off of the chalkboard outside of your restaurant. We all ended up getting the same thing, something we knew would be simple and quick to get to our table. Whatever. Re: The Tearoom. Ate there yesterday and we had one pleasant waitress for fourteen people. Some of the dishes got mixed up but no big deal she handled it okay. The sandwiches that were ordered were enjoyed by everyone that did so. However, the salads which were touted as large by the waitress were spartan especially when you consider the $9.00+ charge. I ordered what would be called a chef salad elsewhere and got about 2 oz. of meat. I ordered it without cheese and thought they would put a little more meat on it in place of the cheese. For quite some time i have been wanting to take the drive out to the country to see the blooming flowers along the road but more so to visit Martha's Bloomers.I checked out the web site and was pleasantly surprised that Sundays they served Brunch.Upon arrival at the cafe' a nice couple advised us to take a seat and wait for the hostess to be seated in the dining room. After some time, hungry and unwilling to wait further we marched in. It didn't get better! The coffee was of the night before,unfortunately we overheard the conversation among the staff and the salad with microwaved chicken is horrendous! The owner came out and told us that they had been slammed the night before and the kitchen was off due to playing catch up! What about the FROZEN chicken on a salad? Yuck! What a disappointment! Having read much about Martha's Bloomers, we took the drive up from Houston, which is pleasant. The entrance is inviting, and it's easy to find. We were very disappointed with the selection and quality of plants. Houston Garden Centers has them beat. The greenhouse was virtually empty and unkempt. The tree selection was very small, ditto on the fruit trees. The gift shop did have a nice selection of items. We did not try the tea shop. What an unexpected find while we were headed back from College Station. Located right on the feeder it looks like a small nursery but don't let that deceive you. It is a lovely store front with a hidden treasure in the back. Excellent service, with the best spiced tea, a menu with something sure to please everyone, and exception food. We had the salad sampler, chicken salad sandwich and coconut cream pie. We loved everything about this place. Can't wait to tell all of our friends and bring them back. read more
