I have been a patient of Dr. Cortes for over 8 years. I started treatments with her after a physician suggested that dental issues were contributing to chronic health conditions. After consulting with several dentists and health practitioners it was determined that major dental treatment was required. (I previously had been going to the same family dentist for a large part of my life. After he passed, it was discovered that there were major dental issues that had been overlooked.) Due to the extensity of the work and possible health ramifications, I started reading numerous books about dentistry and speaking to many health professionals, dentists, patients, etc., I began literally a world-wide search looking for a dentist to do the necessary work. My search led me to Dr. Cortes. I cannot say enough about the care that I have received from Dr. Cortes. She is a rare combination of great skill, knowledge, experience, and talent. In every field there are some who are outstanding and in dentistry, Dr. C is in this category. If ever there was a doctor who not only delivers the highest level of treatment and always goes the extra mile, it is Dr. Cortes. There were times when I was in the area (I lived in North Carolina at the time) and needed dental care and she offered to come in at 7:00 am and on holidays to fit me in. I later found out that this is not uncommon for her to do for her patients. I immediately realized that I am not alone in my appreciation for Dr. Cortes. Over the years in speaking with other patients, everyone I have spoken with also shares the same appreciation and I would say gratitude towards Dr. Cortes. Her patients are her biggest fans!!! I have met people from all over the country who come into town to see Dr. Cortes. I myself have flown in, despite extremely limited financial means, when I was living in other states. Whole families come in from out of town to see her. I have also met other patients who have had major health issues who also feel fortunate to have Dr. Cortes as their dentist. Recently I was seeing a health professional in NYC and Dr. Cortes came up in a conversation. His response was "Dr. Cortes is a genius." Another great fan of Dr. C!!!! I also appreciate the techs and office staff in the office. They also have been professional, efficient, and caring. Each person is treated as a welcomed individual and not just as a patient. I have referred highly discriminating friends to Dr. Cortes, and they too share my respect and appreciation for Dr. C. this horrible doctor by the name of mrs Martha Cortes is the sickest doctor I ever worked for where should I start well she not worth the attention so I'll make this short and sweet PLEASE DONT EVER GO TO THIS DR MARTHA CORTES SHES AWFUL she's had zero bed side manner as a doctor she very manipulative and hired me just to say she helped me get my professional dental hygiene license just because she hired me. what's the worst part she fired me for no reason over the Xmas holiday only to not let me pick up my personal belongings and what's worst o had my professional RDH license mailed there to the job and she says she threw it in the trash my diploma and parchment papers just because I wanted to move on. on top of that her sister. You share your knowledge and hints towards wellness tied in with the patient's problem, and with recommended books like Thomas Griner's, What's Really Wrong With You book on muscle spasm with innovative solutions work that deeply affects balanced health, especially for people like me, an elder that needs to keep adding to my younger newborn cells from these better health practices. I've learned about solving health problems more from you than any other doctor in my life, and my father was a doctor. You cleaned all the mercury out of my mouth with new kinds of materials that pose no health threats, over a decade ago, and my health got its first jolt of infection removals, felt better and better as you finished off the process and since, has steadily improved over my aging years, even my brown hair color has returned to much of my head. If it were not for your holistic modeling work in my mouth I would have teeth missing, as I came to you with two opinions for taking teeth out of my mouth that other dentists said could not be saved, but save you did. I came to Dr. Cortes with very little knowledge about TMJ and the effects of the oral anatomy on the body. Three years ago I began to get great pain, tension and discomfort in my jaw and by my ears. I learned that my lower jaw was moving forward and that my upper jaw was holding it back, causing me TMJ issues (I also later learned it was effecting the quality of my sleep as well). Now almost three years into treatment, with the DNA appliance, I cannot thank Dr. Cortes enough. Later on in my treatment, I additionally learned that my tongue-tie, in combination with my TMJ, was causing me hearing loss and tinnitus in my right ear. (As a musician, producer and arranger this was very troublesome and worrying for me). After my frenuloplasty (a tongue tie release procedure) both my ears opened up and tension I did not know I had was released. Furthermore, my sleep has improved tremendously since starting treatment, and the sinus infections I get from my seasonal allergies, have lessened in frequency and intensity. Not only has the treatment been fantastic, but the staff at her office is phenomenal. Meily is extremely knowledgable, patient and such an incredible help. Karol and Johanna make visits fun, and are makes sure you're comfortable. Jackie at the front desk makes you feel like family, and always cared for. I feel extremely fortunate to have found Dr. Cortes. I have been a patient of hers for over 12 years. When I was living in North Carolina I began an extensive search for a dentist to do major dental work. I had 3 criteria: 1) that the dentist had excellent education and training 2) had extensive experience and success (good recommendations!!!) and 3) had what I called the X Factor, which goes beyond education and experience. It is the ability to think outside the box. It is a talent or gift that goes beyond education and skill. Dr. Cortes continues to meet my criteria and I discovered that she has 2 additional qualities that I did not consider when I was looking for a dentist. The first is that she deeply cares for her patients and does all that she can to make the dental issue a complete success. She always goes the extra mile, considering the specific tooth, the mouth, the physiology and the person, when choosing treatment modalities. This is significant as it is increasingly becoming common knowledge that dental problems can affect the health and well-being of the patient. Other friends who have gone through major dental issues tell me about having to go to one dentist for one thing, another dental specialist for another, and another for other treatments. Dr. Cortes has taken care of all my dental needs. If there is a special need, she will refer patients to other specialists, but so far, she has taken care of all of my dental needs. There is no dentist like Dr. Cortes so it is not easy to write a review about her. Who to compare her to? Yes, you will have the best care possible of a dentist in the usual sense. Yes, things run here in unusual fashion: a case might reveal complex aspects and take more time to solve. They can be off schedule (But next time that could be you getting extra care). As a person with dental disasters since childhood, a terrible encounter with a so-called biological dentist" in Cali, breathing, TMJI, and multiple health issues for me, my husband, and kids over the years; Dr. Cortes has solved problems we didn't even know were there multiple times. Words cannot describe my relief!!! Dr. Cortes is an amazing and compassionate dentist. I'm so grateful for her work on my recent front tooth crown replacement. Every other dentist wanted to do 2 crowns to make them match, but Dr. Cortes really heard me (why mess with a perfectly healthy front tooth?) and was able to match the crown so perfectly that now people cannot even tell it is a crown! On the cutting edge of dental care, she also is versed and teaches cranial work and sleep studies for sleep apnea and other conditions. Suffice to say that she goes to the source in her treatment of you. She is exacting, she will not settle for anything less than perfection. Her staff is warm and caring. I have been to many dentists in my lifetime, but never one as caring or competant as Dr. Martha Cortes. She is off-the-charts FABULOUS! I went to see her wearing the battle scars of previous dentists who had wrecked my mouth. Dr. Cortes very sensitively helped me get past my fears. She worked gently and really took the time to do exceptional dental work. The crowns she gave me look like real teeth, she took the infections out of my gums, and she restored a sense of wellness not only to my mouth, but to my whole being. I've been going to Dr. Cortes since 2002. I'm pretty sure that I would have full dentures by now if it wasn't for her. Her expertise is beyond description but, more importantly, she's constantly thinking about how to save your teeth rather than just removing them. One of the most recent procedures I had with Dr. Martha Cortes was a tooth extraction with simultaneous dental implant placement using PRP (platelet rich plasma) from my own blood. Dr. Cortes removed 4 amalgams and replaced them with porcelain. She is amazing! Not only did my teeth improve, my overall health improved. She improved how i felt everyday, especially my throat. Dr. Cortes is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever met, has a completely unstable and erratic temperment and is a hustler that rips people off! The whole office is chaotic and a mess and her sister who runs the front desk hustled me with with a ridiculous price with no clarity or breakdown of anything. Thank goodness I did not follow through with this dentist with treatment but she still managed to make me spend close to $1000 on an unnecessary MRI. She's horrible and I had a total disaster experience just with a consultation and evaluation! Avoid! Not sure what happened to my previous review, but I wanted to add a note. After reading the other reviews posted, I've never had such an experience when coming in to see Dr. Cortés. She has always been attentive and helpful, and any interruption I may have had during my appointment was understood and within good reason (she gets calls from Doctors of whom she is discussing patient's treatment plans or procedures). I have never found it rude or infringing, but that she puts care into the better health of her patients.
