We were staying in Savannah for a week and decided to get out and enjoy the area. Found a voucher for paddle-boarding on a discount site and signed up. When we arrived, we were a bit confused by the lack of actual building (we were at a public boat-ramp), but were greeted by other guests and the guide. The equipment arrived soon after, and we were given a brief instructional and safety lesson (10 minutes max). The owner stored our clothes and keys in his truck while we headed out on the water. The rest of the time was us out on the water. As we were a small group (2 double kayaks, 2 paddle boarders, and 1 guide), we all went out as a group (I guess they normally do the kayakers and paddle boarders with separate guides). However, it was a great experience. We got to see dolphins and herons, and the water, while brutally hot, was quickly cooled off with a jump off the board into the intercoastal.
As first time paddle-boarders, we were able to learn the stroke and balance quick enough. The water that this company uses is protected, so you only get some small ripples from boats passing by or the wind. After doing this experience, I would be hesitant to learn this sport on open water or the actual ocean- this location was perfect for beginners and beautiful for experts.
The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. We got back from our two hour tour 20 minutes early, so we just paddled around the shore for fun. We were taking pictures of each other on the board, and the staff asked if wanted to get one with both of us in it. I would definitely return, even without a discount voucher.
Suggestions: If you are doing the kayaking bring water and a hat with you, especially in the summer months of June-August. On the paddleboard, you don't really have any safe storage space, so keep it in the car and hydrate before. read more
