Macy's as a whole is sort of in the middle of keeping up with that. I recently found a new line they have called On 34 (a nod to its flagship location on 34th Street). I have to say, it is the main reason I have gone into the store lately. I feel like their brands have stepped up, and this location's redesign has been done nicely. Everything is clean, and there are plenty of people to assist. I saw an employee, Andree I think, helping a customer with choosing a dress and he seemed to be very invested in making sure she would be comfortable and stylish at her event. I don't like that they downsized their housewares section and added a furniture section. I'm not sure it was necessary. Also, the Macy's Backstage section is sort of messy and disheveled, but if you feel like digging and finding inexpensive items, go there. I'll be happy to pop in now and then to see if there is anything new and interesting or any great finds.

Thankfully, they have lit up the lot with some additional, mobile lights because at dark, it's not safe in a lot of the lot. I came in after having past success with coats (once even after they dropped the "Coat Factory" from the name), but I guess they don't even bother with coats anymore. I also used to find great baby gifts and kids items. The store has cut off about half its space so it's a lot smaller than in past years. There really is no rhyme or reason to how the clothes are put on the racks. Yes, I know patrons put things out of place, but at least have some staff there to try to keep things neat. After finding no coats and not wanting to sort through the aisles of junky clothes or fight with all the people crowding them, I headed to housewares where I found a couple of items that I had been thinking of grabbing had I seen them. The kids area had clothes and things thrown everywhere. Shoes were in wrong size areas. The store smelled musty and really needs a deep clean. While looking through the aisles, I was privy to a colorful conversation between two employees who were not happy to be in that day. A few curse bombs thrown around about what they were doing was enough for me. I don't always like being at my job either, but to be so candid across aisles dropping s bombs and f bombs in front of so many just made me move on. I contemplated putting my items down and moving on, but I joined the line of about 30 people being handled by two registers (on a busy Saturday afternoon). It took 23 minutes to move through the line. The only plus was the family behind me who had apparently never heard of personal space left after about 5 minutes. The register staff were tired but sort of friendly, they did their best. When asked for my phone number for the frequent shopper program, I just told the girl, oh I won't be coming back. It is a shame because this used to be a place I enjoyed searching for deals at and finding gifts for people, but it's just not worth the experience anymore.

Conveniently, they were accepting Belk's money-grab credit cards. I would expect a sign to be posted alerting potential victims of the outage; no information was conveyed whatsoever. The woman behind the counter refused to take any responsibility, claiming "Yes, they should have put up a sign." She, too, works at the establishment, and could have put up a sign herself. As far as my thoughts on Belk, I'd put money on bankruptcy number two coming soon. I'd prefer to drag my feet across a cheese grater than return.

Okay, it did take a total of 45 minutes but as I said I was a walk-in. And it barely hurt - the pharmacist that did the shot was good. I had a return and that was abysmal. I told the woman I wanted either a gift card or cash because I knew I'd be spending money in their store. She didn't pay attention and then it took forever to fix. Shopping was fun, because like all the other big box stores, I discovered that there are things that are extremely regional, like Abita Pecan Beer or Oreo Vinegar Donuts. That last one caused me to just shake my head.
