Quite honestly I am saddened to have to leave such a poor review for South Michigan Ophthalmology…read more I was a long time patient of Dr. Runyon from early middle school until I left for college. I was happy with the services that I used to receive them. However, recent appointments lead me to believe that this is no longer the business it used to be. I moved back to the area and decided to give the business a call to try to establish/ get a new set of glasses and order of contacts. Scheduling the appointment was a burden in off itself as reaching the front desk is nearly impossible: consistently being passed between a dial tone at the front desk and continual loops with their automated phone attendant. Prior to my appointment, my mother received my appointment reminder phone call. I called the office to let them know that the phone number that they had on file was not accurate and to switch to my phone number-- I am more understanding as I was a minor when I had last been to the office. However, it had been at least 5 years since I had been to this office, I don't see why my contact information was not updated/ confirmed, especially after I used my phone number to establish the appointment. Normally, I would be okay with the phone number accident, except it happened again. Not once, but TWICE. A second appointment reminder went to my mom's phone, as did the phone call to notify me that my lenses were available for pickup! To add insult to the wound, I ordered 2 new sets of glasses on the request from Dr. Panchal that I wear my contacts less often. The script was wrong and I cannot use either the glasses or the contacts. Such an expensive mistake.

I've been going to South Michigan Ophthalmology since they opened many years ago. In the past I've…read morebeen very happy with the service I've received there, particularly with Dr. Rungyun. However I think something has changed there, perhaps with office management, as I've had a very bad experience the past few times I've visited there, first with front desk personnel concerning insurance coverage and then with the Optical Shop when I tried to get the insurance issue resolved. Now I've heard that Dr. Rungyun has even left, so I really don't see any reason for me to give them my business any longer. Word of warning to current and future customers, be sure to double check if they claim your insurance coverage is different from what you expected.

First off the eye doctor was awesome & the lady that actually had to order my glasses on 08/17/25…read morewas amazing. I was told my glasses would be back in 10 days and my sunglasses came back. OK cool. I was then told my prescriptions should be in any time. Then I got a text saying my prescription was delayed. So after so many days past, I decided to call and ask about my glasses. The lady whoever she was on the phone was nothing but rude. She say: Did you get a text? Well your glasses aren't in if you didn't get texted (had a nasty I hate life tone to her voice). It is now been 20 business days no text and I didn't want to call because I didn't want the horrible horrible employee that they have to be nasty once again because she had to answer the phone and tell me where my glasses were at! But, I did call on Saturday and left a voice message telling them I was still waiting for my glasses and I would appreciate a phone call but yet I've heard nothing whatsoever so I guess tomorrow I can go visit them. I would love to talk to a general manager, because this is definitely not the best! Customer service training would be great for some of their employees. But, I commend the ones who have done their job so thank you to them.

I picked out 2 frames; one for $69.95 and one for $79.95. I got simple plastic lenses with polarized tint (which I expected to pay extra for) on the sunglasses. I asked her if what I was picking out was covered in the 2 pair price and she said yes multiple times. The problem is I was charged $331.95 and the receipt says absolutely nothing about the sale price. I feel like I was ignored and was ripped off.

Yeah won't be returning and definitely going to spread the word about the eye Dr. Michelle valella…read moresnapped my head off when my five year old was in the chair. My daughter was struggling to convey what a specific letter was and the doctor kept flipping the lens but that wasn't the issue, she simply couldn't identify that particular letter on cue. So I asked her if she knew what the letter was and the doctor snapped my head off and said "don't interrupt me!" That's my kid. I'll interrupt you whenever I want to. It's my actual job to advocate for her. I was contacted by the office manager who made an offer for a discount on a future purchase after hearing about this incident. I accepted the offer for myself, not for my children for a contact lens consultation. I received a phone call today from the office manager stating that the doctor refused to see me if the Google review remained online. If I removed the review, she would be willing to see me. I canceled the appointment. The doctor has done nothing to remedy her own relationship with me, and trying to bribe me to remove the review prior to seeing me again is gross. All of the ick from this doctor, not sure who is willing to be bribed or if that ever works, but it's not me.
