Everything is excellent! We love the food and the service at Marro's -- especially the shrimp salad. Of course, the pizza is yummy too!

I didn't have super high expectations for this little eatery in Henderson. We are in beautiful…read morecountry, but out in what seems like the boonies. What a surprise I had in a very good way! First off, this spot is cozy and rustic, from the antique wooden bar to the brick walls and Turkish lights and carpets. We were immediately greeted and while our host started to escort us to a table, we asked if we could sit at the bar. Of course, was her reply. We took our seats and Melissa came out to give us menus and take our drink order. We went in thinking of sharing a small pizza so I was looking for a glass of red wine to accompany it. I asked Melissa for a glass of Cabernet, but they didn't have any. She told me what they did have and I asked for a small taste of the blend which she happily provided. It was good, so I decided to have a glass. We asked for her recommendations as it is always fun to get the staff's opinion on menu items and she replied that everything is good, but she especially likes the Australian Chicken. We asked about the pizzas and she recommended the George's special and told us we would love it. Sold (although I would really like to go back and try the chicken). The pizza was delivered hot, fresh and flavorful. Toppings included pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, onion, green pepper and mushrooms. The ratio of sauce on the pizza was just perfect and so tasty. Toppings still had that slight crisp that I love. The crust looked a bit thicker, but was not. It was crunchy outside, but had a wonderful softness to the inside that I loved and a great flavor. Usually, I discard crusts, but I munched on these. We were offered Parmesan and red pepper flakes. Those red pepper flakes packed some heat! We had the best experience thanks to Melissa and the delicious food! I hope that we have an opportunity to come back in the short week we are here.

Jessa, our server was amazing, a great waitress as well as funny and kind. She constantly checked to be sure we were ok, our glasses were always full. The food was delicious, fresh, served hot and clearly made with care. I had the Olympia pasta with chicken, it was delish, my husband's steak sandwich was very tasty as well, just a lot of food. Lastly prices are very reasonable. To add chicken to my pasta was $3.00, and it was a ton of moist tender chicken. We will absolutely return to this gem. Thanks Jessa for making it a great experience.

I showed up at high noon on a Monday. It was just me so I skipped the wait and bellied up to the…read morebar. It was a nice wide bar with a row of TV's lining the wall. The bartender greeted me and asked if I wanted the regular menu or was the lunch menu sufficient. I perused the lunch menu, which had several different options. Surprisingly, everything on that menu was half price! What a deal! I ordered the most expensive item, the catfish sandwich, which was only $10. Even though they were very busy, I got my sandwich within ten minutes. They call it a sandwich but there ain't no way I could eat it like a sandwich, even with my big mouth. The catfish came with onion, lettuce, tomato, and some kind of sauce on a toasted sub roll. It came with a knife. I cut off the first bite. It was .......... GREAT! Wow! I have always gotten BBQ or fish tacos before. Fantastic blending of flavors. It came with a choice of a side and I chose fries. The fries were barely alive. Good flavor but partially limp. That was the only negative. I wish I lived closer to Farmville. I would make them regular visits during the week. They keep teasing us about expanding to Madison Heights but no action yet.

I had the fried catfish which was nice and crispy yet light breading. Nice portions of baked beans and mac & cheese. Baked beans were very good, with a sweet bacon flavor but I'm a mac & cheese guy and theirs is incredible. Smoked flavor that just is throughout the cheese. Highly recommend stopping in. I will be going back and trying some other items.

I was passing through the area and decided that I wanted to find a place for lunch that was not…read moretypical fast food - so I decided this would be a good place to try. We ordered two meals - a pulled pork plate with hush puppies, onion rings, and okra, as well as a pulled chicken sandwich with a side of fries. Overall the food was very good, not as much of a smoke ring on the meat as you might see at many BBQ places, but still flavorful. The chicken was a bit dry, but fortunately there's plenty of BBQ sauce on the table. Overall it's a really nice place with solid food and quick service. Clearly this place is popular with the locals. The inside was nice and clean. I would certainly consider stopping here again when I'm in the area.

It's basically a mid-way point between Durham and Richmond or Virginia Beach, and is right up near the state line, so it kind of makes a natural stopping point. You also know that the options for actually stopping and eating there, are pretty limited outside of fast food. So I was encouraged to find a roadside BBQ shack with more than 4 stars on Yelp about 5 miles off the highway. The place looks the part, an old gas station converted into a BBQ hideaway. Upon pulling in and parking, my hopes were high. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The service at the counter was friendly and helpful, definitely a high point. I ordered a brisket sandwich combo, for which I chose collard greens as the side (on recommendation), and a tea. It also came with a condiment cup of coleslaw for the sandwich, on request. All told, about 15 bucks. A few minutes later my order was up, and I had a seat on one of the counter stools. Unwrapping the sandwich, I was already a bit unenthused. Standard economy hamburger bun, bit of meat poking out one side. Removing the top bun revealed one solitary slice of brisket about a half inch thick, cut in half, a small portion based on all my life BBQ experiences. Pulling off a piece, the meat had a very pot-roast like texture, not characteristic of recently smoked brisket. In all fairness, unless you are rapidly selling brisket, it is a difficult meat to maintain quality on. I dumped my coleslaw ontop and sauced it up, which helped, I liked the sauce... but the sandwich was a definite disappointment. The collard greens, though cooked properly, were very salty. I was hoping for a little bit of sweetness or vinegar, but just salt. I added some of their vinegar style sauce hoping to help it, but just didn't make much dent. Maybe ordering brisket was the wrong thing to do and pork is more their speed, or a plate is the better route, with a different side for sure... but I don't see myself trying again. The search for decent stop-over food continues.
