This was a pre-construction purchase over two decades ago. This place is amazing. All of my children have grown up at Surfwatch. You have three on site pools and a private beach. I do miss the movie theater and wish they would bring it back. There is always a fun planned for owners and guests. The food opportunities are a bit limited but Sea Salt Cafe' by the beach is fine. Visit or buy. You can't go wrong with Surfwatch. read more

Surfwatch Preferred Owner check-in... I ignored the Surfwatch email on Preferred Owner check-in as another marketing ploy, but was given the notice at guard date; still skeptical, my experience was pleasant. Owners of multiple weeks at Surfwatch are taken to an agent in a private area, and are quickly checked in.... Yes, there is a mention of the obnoxious sales presentation, and my decline is readily accepted. Good news is that at 2:00 check in, Our villa is ready and we are presented with keys. This is a Great Service, and we hope that it continues. As usual, Surfwatch has been updates; fresh paint, new furniture, coffee pot, and other. In our view, we find value in our maintenance fees.... Surfwatch is well-managed property. Our practice is to lunch at Hudson's on arrival day; travel tip - skip the on-water deck and enjoy the views and lunch from A/C tables at windows. Surfwatch is home for the next two weeks; we have been visiting HHI for 60 years, and are HHI Marriott Vacation Club members for 20+ years - Our membership has resulted in Marriott exchanges to nearly all US Marriott Vacation Clubs including Hawaii. We like the mid-island location, and while we also own two weeks at Grand Ocean, we do enjoy Both properties. An advantage of autumn and spring ownership (especially autumn) is the mostly child free environment, and the many, many opportunities to converse with fellow senior citizens. My informal poll has yet to discover a discontented Marriott Vacation Club member. We agree owner fees are high, but bring good value. read more

Purchased 3 bedroom ocean view week preconstruction. Today when I arrived, I was greeted with a sliver of a view out of a window and no view out of the living room slider (huge tree blocks the view) When I requested a room with a better view and offered to downsize, management said downgrading is not available. My husband is handicapped and I requested a room close to the elevator. We are assigned a room the farthest from the elevator instead. The property is big and you have to walk EVERYWHERE! The beach, the poolside bar, the registration desk. Parking is not good. Think they planned for 1 spot per unit. I came off season. Don't know what they do during high season. The property is not near the "heart" of HHI. To do anything, you need to get in your car. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY. read more

A terrific beach resort in the center of HHI with easy access to the island's southern Sea Pines community, center Shelter Cove shopping area, and northern attractions including Skull Creek restaurants, Bluffton, and Pinckney Island conservation area. If those amusements are insufficient, the Marriott SurfWatch has daily activities for families and individuals of any age. The beach is an easy stroll out the back and past a couple of outdoor pools. The Sea Salts Beverage Co. offers a limited--mostly sandwich--menu and drinks just off the beach. The island airport, serviced by Southwest Airlines, is not far as evidenced by the occasional low-flying jets overhead. read more

I hear that all of the amenities are quite lovely but I positively camped out at the beach-side pool! We met so many folks from all over. It was fun visiting with them. Of course, the service is impeccable. Bonvoy Marriott never fails. Everyone is so delightful, so helpful! Our condo was fabulous! No detail unattended. In short, we wanted for nothing. Always a driver in a cart offering a ride for those weary of walking after a day at the beach or pool. Always someone just right there and ready to answer your questions. Our family stayed in two condos and we had the very most fun! It was the perfect vacation! My brother played on a few different golf courses and met new golfing friends. My elderly Mom enjoyed early morning beach walks. I'm fascinated by the conservation efforts and took some time to learn about it. Even purchased some storybooks for my Granddaughter. read more

Gorgeous resort. This place is ginormous with 2 big pools. It has a lake with chairs to overlook the fish and wildlife snuggled between different resort buildings. We rented bikes ($35) each bike for the day, we ventured out of resort onto a public walking path with tennis courts, very pretty. The beach was of course beautiful. Happy hour between 4-6. We rented a cabana $100/day for a large one , comes with our own waiter a bunch of soft drinks , water in a iced cooler . This will be our new spot when the weather gets too hot here in Florida for a nice getaway. I highly recommend you try this place out . Been staying here for a dozen years but I never thought to write a review til our last trip. We started staying here because at the time it was the only Marriott with 3 bedroom units but I think now there is another. It is a beautiful location, our favorite are what is called garden view around the big pond. Absolutely hate the Tidemark building but if you want to be right at the trail to the beach it will be perfect for you. One of the things we have always liked here is they have golf carts you can call that will take you out to the beach. When ready to leave there is a phone at the beach for you to call and ask for a ride back. Now they answer the phone at the main desk, use to have their own number you dialed them directly. Either way, its fun. Its only a maybe 10 minute walk to the beach but when taking a lot of stuff or after a long day, it is so wonderful to have the cart service. Once you call they are usually there before you can even get downstairs. Always lots of parking except for the Tidemark building, limited spots there and the only building with underneath parking, very limited. We still get the 3 bedroom which here is a 3 bedroom/3 bath. Full kitchen, dining and living rooms and porch with table and chairs. Garden view rooms are around the pond, cant see the ocean but again maybe 10 minute walk and its an easy walk. There are cubby storage on the walkway to the beach, put your chairs etc there but it's leave at your own risk, no doors or locks, just open cubbies. Also a set of grills right there. I see people coming from the rental houses behind all the time and using the grills, cubbies, etc. It is for SurfWatch guests only but Marriott doesnt monitor or enforce it. Road behind Tidemark and the walking trail can sometimes get busy with people going in and out of the rental houses so pay attention to the signs that say watch for cars. We had to evacuate in 2019 because of the hurricane but that is the only issues we have ever had, it is still one of our favorite resorts. There are bike rentals, walking paths, great doggy park in the woods, beautiful resort, great location. The spare bedroom has a playpen in the closet if you need it. Magnifying mirrors in the bathrooms, nightlights on the bathroom switches, iron and ironing board in the laundry room and they do provide the small boxes of laundry powders, bring your own dryer sheets, softener, etc. The porch does have a ceiling fan but its basically useless, you get more breeze fanning with a kleenex! Master shower is super huge with assorted shower heads, very relaxing! Closet in entry hall way has your stuff in it such as broom vacuum, mop, plunger, etc as well as plenty of shelves for your food, water, etc. Right by front door is a coat rack on the wall and a shelf where you can lay your bands, sunglasses, etc. I always bring my little folding shelf here for the bathroom. No where by commode to set anything so I set up my little stool for wipes, etc. Tv in each bedroom as well as living room. Air conditioning here is good its been changed since we started going but it still gets cold and y'all know how important that is to me! Lol Hey to Goober! read more

Amazing resort! Very friendly and helpful staff! One thing people didn't tell me was that the island gets dark at 830-so if it's your first time there please Keep that into consideration. I couldn't find hotel, no street lights or lights on the signs. I had to call Front desk and they stayed on phone until I arrived. The thrive and activities staff was wonderful. Felt like they became friends. Only downside was the restaurant on property closes early since the island goes dark for the turtles. Villas were beautiful and so was view. It was a large property, we walked but there were always golf carts driving around asking if you needed a ride. Hotdog/bratwurst night was a blast-make sure you do it if you are there on that night. read more

I have watched 2 different people do this job this young man takes his job seriously being very though the other person just ran through each chair quickly he did everything at least twice and took his time. I had a fantastic 3 day stay here. Even with COVID reigning, most amenities were still open: pools, whirlpools, putting green, shuffleboard, bocce, cornhole, and grill stations, though the theater was closed. Everyone on staff was friendly and approachable. Also having the golf carts taking you around the property is very much appreciated. The suite looked very clean and well maintained, nicely organized, plentiful space. The gym is very nice for a hotel, good space, good variety of equipment. However, the posted open time was 6 am but it didn't actually open until 7. And even then, I had to get someone from maintenance to open the door at 7:10 because my key still wouldn't work. Only other thing I wish they had was an additional bar up near the majority of the buildings instead of just down by the beach. read more

Was here in July 2023. I think we expected more from this hotel given the high prices of $800/night. The entire hotel needs a major remodel for the prices they're charging. First of all the outdoor pools are tiny and boring. There's so many people in the pool and all the lounge chairs are always taken, you have nowhere to sit. There's no slides, nothing for the kids! Didnt feel like a resort pool, felt more like a motel pool! The landscaping is ugly, nearby resorts look much more updated and pretty. The food at the beach restaurant was all fried gross teen food. We had a week stay at this resort. It was amazing! Our view was spectacular. The best thing is we could call for a tram to take us from our building to the beach which was super helpful when you're packing chairs, coolers, etc. Very friendly staff. They have a great selection of activities for their guests. It was a beautiful place and I'm so happy we got to stay there. Would def recommend as it was worth every penny! The rooms are very nice and have EVERYTHING you would need in their fully stocked kitchen. Loved it!! read more

This was our first time here although we've visited Hilton Head many times over the years. We were greeted warmly in the registration area and provided with a one-sheet with value-added discounts to use for various activities and area restaurants. There were additional incentives for agreeing to a no-pressure timeshare presentation which went well. As long-time vacation club owners, we always agree to these for the incentives and insights into how to best plan for the vacations we want. The unit was spacious and immaculate. My request for a high floor was accommodated and from our vantage point (4th floor), we actually had a wonderful view of the ocean although the unit was technically a garden-view room. The kitchen was equipped with pots and pans and utensils for meals if we so chose to cook. However, the beach bar and restaurants in the area were so good we ate out for dinner most days. Nice touches the Marriott's SurfWatch had versus other vacation club resorts I've visited include: enormous shower area with a bench and multiple shower heads, kitchen cabinets with glass doors, pantry closet, direct beach access, complimentary transportation service around the resort property, onsite beach bar with delicious food and drinks, flexible LED headboard bed lamp, and indoor garage parking (a huge benefit in sweltering heat!). There were a few minor shortcomings. The complimentary WiFi was sketchy. The master bedroom door was slightly misaligned making it difficult to close shut. And although I loved the extra-large shower area, I did miss having a jacuzzi. I did not hear a peep from any other guests. The unit was super comfortable. I will definitely return again. read more

We stayed here with friends who checked in on a Saturday and we arrived on a Sunday. The villa was a 3 bedroom, 3 baths and roomy. The patio had nice view and the kitchen was also large in size. The resort is only 5 years old and kept in great condition. In the main lobby they offer a grocery store and have outdoor and an indoor pool and Jacuzzi. A decent fitness center is located on the 2nd floor and they have weekly bike rentals for $25.00 a bike. The location was good near the 278 hwy which is near golf courses and restaurants. Free wifi is also provided and the complex is not overly large which is a plus. I would stay here again without any second thoughts. read more

We've been going here annually for the last 10 years or so and it's become a family tradition. I appreciate the huge units with even 3 bedroom options (can easily fit 6+ people without being crowded). I also like the variety of pool and activity options, and the proximity to the beach. Can't think of a place, outside of Barony (the other Marriot timeshare club, that's closer to the water), that more exemplifies "east coast beach vacation" than this, except that Hilton Head doesn't have a "boardwalk" like the ones in NJ/MD or even Myrtle Beach. But maybe that makes it better/more relaxed? Once we've gotten a cabana - with a big group and different ages this was really worth it. They're close to the beach pool and the "Sea Salts Beverage Company" (lunch and dinner place with decent options and sturdy drinks). It's easy to get a ride in their golf carts back to the units that are further away from the beach since they run most of the day, or you can call them from the phone. Plenty of things to do unplanned - like bike rentals, or the beach, the pool, but then also lots of little planned resort activities (vollyball tournament, pet a gator, make sand-art, etc) to keep the kids entertained. To be fair, I'm not actually a member of this place - my parents are, so we're using their Marriott points to stay in these lovely units. Maybe I'd feel differently if we were paying the yearly membership fees. We have stayed a few times on the specials where they try and convince you to buy more weeks/points, but haven't yet succumbed to any of the "enticing offers" to become "owners" (that's a whole other topic). read more

A wonderful vacation can happen at the SurfWatch, we had one. They have a great location, very nice villas, a great staff and a lot of fun activities. My wife and I spent a wonderful vacation there. I only have room for a thumbnail sketch of how much I enjoyed my vacation there. They are located on a beach front, near shopping and restaurants. If you plan to cook they have a full kitchen and are located near several supermarkets including a Whole Foods and there are restaurants in all the nearby shopping centers. I suspected that I'd have a good vacation at check in time. The people at the front desk made us feel welcome as soon as we started to check in. I wish I could remember all the names, Rosa, Francine and Jack are names I remember as being very helpful at the front desk. There are many services but the one that really stood out was the electric carts. My wife has some difficulty walking and electric carts are always available to help you get around the resort. I want to say management there must be awfully good to keep a complex of that size running like clockwork. The grounds are well maintained, the rooms are clean and well maintained, there are activities every day, and there are services for everyone. In a complex that size, with a staff sized to provide a good vacation for a large crow, that is a daunting task. The management does it well. read more

Patrick the manager encourages people to go buy ice at the grocery store because we pay over $6k and they have a two bag ice quota. Marriot must be a great company to work for because every employee seems so happy. I am a Marriot vacation club time share owner for about 6 years. We had requested a wheelchair accessible room. Upon our arrival there was no handicap room available. Needless to say we were not happy campers.The manager explained what went wrong with the request. It was not The resorts fault at all. After he explained what happened I totally got it and I assure you I will never let that happen again. The manager Craig rectified the situation pretty much immediately. Long story short , The place is beautiful and the staff is second to none. Thank you Craig and staff for making our week wonderful. read more

I don't wanna be the "A" hole who messed up a 5 star rating, however I must tell the truth!!! 1st off let me start by saying that my family truly loved this location... But as a Marriott rewards member who has stayed at many locations and even the "Vacation Club" locations, much was lacking!!! At first I thought maybe it's a communication barrier, because when we request certain items it took about an hour or two to receive them. Even after driving to the front desk to obtain additional cream & sugar we were told that it would be delivered and we had to wait an hour or two!!! The property is beautiful with many on-site amenities, however they are under heavy construction and we were in the thick of it!!! I woke up early because of loud sounds of construction. Later while watching a movie in the main bedroom, and 2 members of my family was watching football in the main area, an employee used a ladder and hopped over onto the balcony and started painting... The manager did send a courtesy box, but the damage had already been done!!! On our last day, the staff was promptly banging on the door at 10:00 for check-out even though we were given a late check-out for 11:00!!! Personally, I would try a different location the next time since Marriott has a few in the area... Not my best Marriott experience!!! read more

Wonderful resort, with a lot of great activities. The place was beautiful decorated for the holiday season. Staff --all top notch. Sea Salt Bar is the place to be to meet all the visitors. So much fun. I love the complimentary shuttle in the resort because sometimes I am just lazy. The reason for my four is the sauna situation. It's not on all the time. It is set to a timer for 60 minutes. Once that time has expired, no more heat. Well, because it's a slow season, I would go in at 11am and be the first person to turn it on. It would take an hour before it got moderately warm. Now, gym opens at 6am. Why doesn't a worker go in there and turn it on? I understand saving energy, but this needs a solution. go in there and turn it on? read more

Of all the places I stayed in than any other in Hilton Head. As a matter of fact, SurfWatch was the first one I stayed in so I compared all the other ones to that one and was severely disappointed. The rooms are spacious and the furniture is comfortable. Being an interior designer, I am more picky than most, so having decent furniture is helpful. The grounds are great and I am sure all the construction is done by now, so nose should not be a problem. read more

We are very seasoned Marriott and Marriott Vacation Club travellers with over 175 nights this year, and Surfwatch is one of our top five resorts. There indoor pool is one of the best in the Marriott chain. They also have a great activities staff. As a disabled person I have used the courtesy golf car service to get around, and some of the best resort employees drive those carts... I would caution guests planning mid December and January visits that the resort does a great deal of maintenance at those times. We were heart broken that we had chosen our trip to Surf watch to use the indoor pool, but learned enroute (too late to alter plans) that the indoor pool was closed due to roof painting for our week stay. We tried the outdoor pool that had the temp turned up to 91, but two days were just too cold for out door swimming. We worked very closely with the pre-arrival staff, and they did get us located next too the warmer pool...since the indoor pool was closed...but after begging MANY times to be in a villa next to the elevator, we ended up in one and the farthest end of the building ....fares away from elevator. So if you are disabled and need specific villa location, be assertive and repeat your request many times. There are wonderful things to do in Hilton Head....and the short side trips to Savanah and Charleston ....or Beaufort...offer history, culture, the arts and some of the best restaurants in the U.S. (Our favorite restaurants are One Hot Mamas... (American and A+ BBQ) and Bob Loves Lobster Rolls...north of HHI about 15 minutes.) P.S. Also, we had trouble with construction/housekeeping crews in our building taking over both elevators, leading to very long waits or no access. So if you are travelling in the low season, contact the resort and check the renovation schedule. (Construction was also very noisy from 7:30 am until about 8 pm.) But, while we encountered issues that detracted from our stay, we still highly recommend this resort for its design, activities, area, and cart drivers. read more

We had a pretty decent experience at the Marriott Surfwatch. We were however expecting there to be more kids activities and a possible play room, but that wasn't in the cards. Location is what it's all about. Walk to the beach, 3 pools and short drive to many attractions, food and shopping. Staff were mostly super friendly and ready to help at any given moment. Hands down one of the best stays at a vacation club. The grounds are spacious, updated rooms that are well appointed and spacious as well, direct access to the beach as well as 3 pools, walking trails, grill pads, and other activities available. Most importantly this club is family oriented and kid friendly (all ages)! The entire staff was super friendly and accommodating from the beginning to the end of our visit, particularly Stephanie at the front desk! She literally made our trip the absolute best for our son's first birthday and offered the best service we could have imagined from check in to check out. This is my 4th summer staying at Marriott's Surfwatch in Hilton Head. My family has a timeshare here and every summer that we have come has been an awesome experience. The timeshare is nice and roomy, of course we attempt to fit way too many people in it. All of the rooms are quite roomy and everything has been kept up well over the last few years. We have a balcony facing the beach with an awesome view of the ocean and easy access to a boardwalk right on to the beach. There are three pools, one is a bit smaller and right near the beach and you tend to see fewer children here, the second is right behind our building and it is a big bigger and much more kid friendly, and the third is an indoor pool further back on the property which is nice for a rainy day. Every day that we are here Marriott holds different activities for guests, such as s'mores night and complimentary breakfasts. For people who have properties further back they offer golf cart rides up to the front so people are able to step right onto the beach. Another plus is that while we are staying here we have access to free wi-fi. The only negative thing I can say about my experience at Surfwatch is that every year they hold a meeting to try to get property owners to invest in more properties. I understand that they are simply salesmen and want people to buy, but it seems like they can kind of pester to those people who have already made a huge investment in their property. Every year I leave Surfwatch I can't wait to come back again. If you have the chance to rent a property here I would definitely do it. read more

We spent three nights at this resort. The facilities are excellent and well-maintained. There are multiple swimming pools. They have an area just off the beach that has one of the pools and a beach bar that offers drinks and food. The facility also includes play areas, shuffleboard, putting green, exercise room, and basketball. There are areas with gas grills near each of the five buildings. A nearby city park has tennis courts. The resort is environmentally friendly; the buildings don't encroach on the beach. They are set well back from the beach. The drawback is that it takes a few minutes to walk to the beach. The walk involves wooden walkways that traverse beautiful marsh areas. We were there through a package deal that required that we submit to a sales presentation. We survived it without opening our wallets. read more

This is my fifth stay in the Marriott timeshare. My third at Surfwatch. My family has the timeshare and Surfwatch is their home base. I love it! The activities are the best here, especially the children's! Our daughter loves the Kids Night In (& we do too!) and the Sundae Social was pretty cool too. My husband and I took part in the craft beer tasting - awesome beer selection! Love the walkways here and the boardwalk out to the beach. The staff is so nice and accommodating. We stayed at Marriott Surf Watch during peak season and had a wonderful family vacation. Pros: -The units were all very clean and had comfortable bed. -The walls are thick and you do not hear any outside noise. -They provide a kitchen table that seats 10 for the 3 bedrooms units. -The staff was very friendly and have golf carts readily available for making trips to the beach. -The beach bar had great drinks and great food. -Pool always had lounge chairs available -The resort had fun activities everyday for kids -Very family friendly and would recommend for anyone who is vacationing with kids. read more

My family has been coming for several years. The location on Hilton Head is perfect. I really like the layout and amenities. The rooms are spacious and clean. They have 3 different pools but a really nice beach access. We enjoy the smaller pool ocean side by the bar. You can rent cabanas for the day if desired. They also offer fun activities and events throughout each day. read more

Great Marriott property for families or just couples. Lots of things to do on HHI. Two large outdoor pools and an indoor pool. One pool on the beach with snack bar and alcohol. Other pool is designed as kids play area. Shuffleboard, ping pong, basketball, movie theater, and a playground are all part of the available recreation on site and then there is the BEACH!! read more

Could not say enough good things. Beautiful area that it is located, the hotel is gated, it is very up to date. The rooms were very, very well kept and clean. Mattresses were a little on the hard side, but that is more of a preference. The outside amenities are more than you pay for. Very cozy bonfire, dancing, mini golf, horseshoes, shuffle board, large warm indoor pool. Staff was very accommodating. I would highly suggest this for an overnight stay if you're passing through, visit with your family of small children or a weekend couple getaway. Other reviewers have complained about construction, however, I received an email notifying me of the hours, places and what was being done. It is complete ignorance to think that a hotel can stay up to date without disrupting their customers. Unless they shut the hotel down for remodeling (which people would complain about that as well), when else would it be completed? read more
