I am a fan of Phil Marr. He is a real person with strong purpose. He helpd me in a major way at a time in my life when I was at my lowest. I did find Phil Marr's office a bit randomly. Just a search for local lawyers. But I liked his website and felt it did a good job of setting the tone for the kind of person I would be working with. I think this is a place where you get what you pay for. In all honesty, it was a little more than I anticipated cost-wise, but as I read other reviews here, they mention Phil was a good deal. Well, the cost of a lawyer was new to me, so let's take that into account, please. Looking back, over all, I know he saved me an extensive amount of money in the long run. So, really? A bargain. In a couture lining. I just went in a little naive. Here is where Phil shined. He explained exactly what was happening all along the way. His team was always responsive and communicative. I like to think of Phil as bespoke lawyering. He's going to do what you ask, but advise you well throughout. You'll end up at least knowing you have a formidabble, yet appearing friendly ally in your corner, someone who can be as much of a buffer or a guide as you need them to be. I look back at that time in my life-and I remember a huge conflict in the final stages of my settlement. I told Phil the John Mayer quote I needed him to use and he understood immediately and months of negotiating were over in seconds. Extraordinary, his level of duplicating what I needed and his giving of his attention. He is: Smart. Honest. Patient. Very good at what he does. I highly, highly recommend his law office for an ethical experience with a touch of empathy and light-hearted humor at just the right times and a solid streak of kindness all while being a total professional. read more

I am very thankful I went with Phil Marr to handle my divorce case. Phil was an incredibly smart, well versed attorney in family law. Very pragmatic in knowing when to hold firm versus understanding where compromise was the better path. He never rushes you off a consult and was thorough in making sure complex custody issues are given a proper amount of consideration. Bottom line he is also a genuinely good guy. I couldn't recommend him enough and am lucky to have had him on my side! read more

Even though i never retained Phil, he gave me so much free legal advice that i have nothing but great things to say about him. I easily took a cumulative 4 hrs of his time pro-bono. -1st He literally talked on the phone with me for about an hour giving all kinds of clutch advice on how to approach my response to the RFO. -2nd He made suggestions of things that i should ask from the other party that i would have never conceived of. -3rd The man has a heart and innately understands whats in the best interest of children and more than likely that's how a Judge will rule. . read more

I can't write enough praise for both Phil and Karen. I've never worked with more professional, responsive, empathic, knowledgeable lawyers. From the moment I first contacted them I felt like I could finally breathe. Thank you for your professionalism, kindness and generosity! read more

I am not much of a reviewer, however I felt the need to review my attorney due to my high level of satisfaction. I was calling around and was having a difficult time finding an attorney so I turned to Yelp. I was searching a local attorney around the Pasadena area with great reviews and came across Phil Marr. After reading his reviews I had high expectations and gave him a call. He knew I had a sense of urgency and was able to accomodate a same day appointment. He listened to my concerns with great interest and empathy. After leaving his office, I immediately felt that he took my case for the principal and to get me a fair outcome, not for the money. Phil and Melissa (his assistant) became familiar with my case right away so they were able to quickly react to the unfair situation that I was in and turn it around. He is a great attorney and is well versed in family law. He has gone above and beyond with my case and has exceeded my expectations. Below is what makes him a great attorney: -Although I know I am not his only client, he makes me feel like it. -He knows that I work hard for my money, so he works in an efficient manner. I feel I have had more bang for my buck with him. -He has returned my calls and emails in a timely manner, even on Saturdays and Sundays! -He performs at a high level and has shown great composure while under pressure. -He has demonstrated that he has my back over and over. He is very reliable. Phil and Melissa make a great team. They are both very intelligent, down to earth and are easy to work with. They have not only provided their services, but have also provided great support in this difficult time in my life. I have a lot of confidence in Phil. He has taken a lot of pressure out of my life. I can now concentrate at work and get a good nights rest. So far I have been very satisfied with his work and feel lucky to have found him. I would highly recommend Phil Marr to family, friends and anyone else needing a reliable, reasonable, knowledgeable attorney for any family related issues. read more

Phil represented a close friend of mine in a horrible high-conflict child custody case. It was the hardest time in her life, and I have been thankful that Phil and his staff were in her corner. Phil deposed the father for two days and got this transcript showing how tied up the father became trying to support his false claims, like that he had paid over two years of child support. . . in cash. Phil used that transcript to get the father's requests for custody dismissed, and also filed twenty-five contempt counts for the dad's twenty-five months of unpaid support. This case was hard for all of us, and I appreciate how seriously Phil took his responsibilities in helping make things right, so I post this to support him for how he supported us. read more

I found Phil after searching for attorneys around the Pasadena area. Some lady from child services advised my boyfriend to find an attorney in Pasadena because "they're more honest than the big law firms on the west side". Needless to say, We're so happy we did! Phil and Karen were heaven sent. My boyfriend's child custody case was a huge mess- a high conflict case, and Phil and Karen worked tirelessly on this case. They were always there to answer our questions or to solve any problems that would arise. Karen is an angel, truly an altruist. We felt like she knew the case more than we did. Phil is so smart and honest. They are the best team!!! Going through any family court ordeal is stressful, painful, and never easy, but with Phil and Karen on your side it takes some of the worry away. read more

Phil was part of the team that represented my divorce and custody case at PBC&P when he was an associate there. I recently discovered that he had broken away to commence his own practice; while this is a loss for PBC&P, it is not surprising that someone of Phil's caliber would find it necessary to hang his own shingle. Phil is detailed, insightful, diligent, and timely in all aspects of his work. More importantly, he is honest and direct. Phil will advise you in an even-handed manner even if the best course of action does not exactly align with the outcome that you desire; however, rest assured that he will fight tirelessly on your behalf with both efficiency and professionalism. I cannot overstate my recommendation that you retain him as your counsel. read more

It is odd to write a yelp review for attorneys, that being said, I am beyond happy with the effective service I received from Phil for a prenuptial agreement, he was able to work with my time constraint and negotiated a few details for better. He is attentive, knowledgeable and effective. He also doesn't make you feel like you are being robbed blind with hefty fees that all attorneys charge. On a personal note, he also seems like a good guy. I'm very content at finding him. read more

Best decision I could of made! Experts! Phil and Karen made everything understandable easy clear and communicated so well with the case that I was dealing with. So many times dealing with legal issues, language becomes complicated and a lot time and money is wasted in trying to understand what is actually going on. These are the right people to hire! They are very personable. Every possibility was explored and we ended up winning our case with in 10 minutes of the hearing!!! I can't say this enough tell your friends these are the right people to help you out. Thanks so much guys! Keep being the best. -Bryan East read more

If you are looking for an affordable attorney when dealing with child custody cases Phil Marr and his team are excellent, knowledgable, and yet very down to earth. I have very strange circumstances in regards to my divorce and Phil and his team listened, were open minded and helped me to get the changes I needed to my custody order without any headache on my end. Fees for their services were very reasonable (every cost was laid out so you could see your weren't getting overcharged for any reasons) and I have nothing but good things to say! I would use them again should I need to! read more

I needed a family law attorney to help my ex wife and myself with our divorce proceedings and Karen Slowik came to the rescue! We started the process ourselves, but then we hit a road block because some of the filings were so confusing. Karen was super helpful and was able to finish the process for us. We're so thankful to her and the Marr & Associates Law Firm. We have peace of mind that our divorced was finalized correctly. I would definitely recommend them to whoever is about to start any kind of family law matter. read more

Phil Marr provided me with excellent help and advice during what was a very difficult divorce case. Unlike other attorneys nearby, I felt that Phil truly cared about my situation and helped me understand the complexities of my case. Phil was very responsive throughout the whole process, and I never had to wait for an email response or call back. I felt that being a family man himself, Phil truly understood and fought for the "best interest of the children". I will always appreciate how hard he fought to allow me as much custodial time with my children. Phil has clearly educated himself in child development and it was very reassuring to know that my attorney had my children's best interest at heart. Phil has assembled an excellent team of support staff, a factor that is often overlooked by most people but a vitally important detail to consider. The team at Marr and Associates are just as impeccably detailed and focused as Phil himself. I felt very comfortable knowing I was in safe hands, and was given important reminders (which I often needed!) Do yourself a favor, and put yourself into safe hands. You will not regret the service and the support you will receive from THE most honest and intelligent family law attorneys in Pasadena. read more

Phil Marr and his team worked with me or over a couple years with the legal side of my divorce. The process and it up being much longer than I thought (no fault of their own), and Phil and his team were there now to support me every step of the way. It was so great to know I truly had an advocate in my corner that was really looking out for my best interests. For anyone needing a family law attorney, and I cannot give a higher recommendation than Phil and his team. They were fair and reasonable with their billing, always acted with integrity, and consistently under promise and over delivered. Thanks so much for the wonderful service and value you given me through this challenging process. read more

I searched far and wide for an attorney whom I felt I could trust... and that's a tall order. Thank God I found Phil. I was referred to him by a friend of someone in my network I didn't even know, so I was reluctant. I went on to yelp to check out what others had to say, but you never know whether the reviews here are solicited or plain fabricated. This was a couple of years ago and there were only a few reviews at that time, which I actually took as a good sign (I'm always skeptical when I see 50 reviews, especially when they all happen within a short time span.) Anyway. I was in the midst of a custody battle. My ex-wife had requested a modification to the orders so that she could move to the other side of the country with my daughter. In a panic, after a few days of research I retained my first attorney. To say I was very disappointed with him is to put it mildly. He required a $10,000 retainer, didn't return calls, billed me for voicemails, sent a critical email to the wrong address and on and on. But that wasn't the worst part. By following his poor counsel I had escalated the conflict with my ex-wife to the point that a court battle was imminent. Enter Phil Marr. I set up an initial consult with him during which he advised me how to craft a letter to my attorney at the time to ensure that I would recoup my retainer in a timely fashion. He spent more than the allotted time with me, very clearly detailed the terms under which he would work with me and how his pricing structure worked. By this point, I had interviewed 7 attorneys. Phil was different. He actually cared. He sought to find a resolution as quickly and efficiently as possible. He didn't just want to rack up hours like the other attorny. His dad was an attorney, and he was following in his Dad's footsteps. So I took the plunge and sent him a the retainer check ($3500). Thanks to Phil's sage counsel, over the course of the next several months my ex-wife and I were able to resolve our differences without going to court. We not only avoided a legal battle, but thanks to Phil's guidance on communicating in a non-threatening way, we were actually able to re-establish trust in our co-parenting relationship, something that I truly believed to be impossible. That is still paying dividends today, as my daughter gets to witness good will between her parents. Nothing short of a miracle. Furthermore, Phil's rates are so reasonable. I would cringe every month as I awaited the invoices from his office, only to be pleasantly surprised when I opened them at how he billed his time (very generously.) I shudder to think what would have happened if I had not received Phil's help. When I met Phil, my ex was trying to get custody of my daughter and move her to the other side of the country. Thanks to Phil, my daughter continues to spend half of the time with me, and the other half of the time with her mom... two blocks away. And harmony has been restored to the kingdom. Thank you Phil, from the bottom of my heart. read more

I needed a strong knowledgeable attorney for a difficult custody case. Mr. Marr was compassionate, with me and then firm in court. If you're a victim of narcissistic emotional abuse, and you can't get anyone who knows what that is all about, then he is definitely the attorney to work with. He knows how hard this difficult personality is to negotiate with, so he will back you up to give you the strength to get through your case. read more

After being contacted by a lawyer telling me I was being sued for custody of my young daughter by her dad with an ex parte motion the next morning, I began contacting lawyers. I called so many that I was starting to lose track of who I spoke to and who I hadn't. I didn't have confidence in any of the lawyers I spoke with, and settled on a lawyer who said he would meet me in court the next day but had no interest in hearing my story. I felt so defeated and hopeless and that is when I got a call that has changed my life. On the other end of the phone was attorney Phil Marr. He listened to my circumstance with compassion and sincerity. As soon as I finished he sprang into action. I felt an instant calm and comfort knowing Phil is on my side. Phil has worked with me on my the retainer and payment. He made it possible for a single mother of two to afford truly the best counsel. Phil has spent countless hours working on my case and is always there when I need him. There has never been a time when I called him and he did not answer. Even though I am not his only client, every time I talk to Phil he makes me feel as though I am. I always have his full attention. Phil is the perfect combination of pit-bull and compassion. Hopefully this is the last time I need a lawyer however if ever do I will never trust or go to anyone except Phil Marr. He is worth far more than I can express her and deserves way more than 5 stars! read more

Phil represented my stepson and his fiance in a child custody case in which the mother wanted to move the kids out of state. There was history of parent alienation and less than fair custody arrangement for a decade. Phil listened to all the issues that had been building for some time including an overwhelming concern for the education and security of the kids. He expertly presented our case before the court with a clear understanding of the law, and court procedures. He did this while remaining cognizant of the financial constraints of the family. I would say that Phil is incredibly enthusiastic about his practice and his staff are warm and supportive. The outcome of our case was positive with a shared custody result and the children not moving out of state. I would recommend Phil Marr to anyone looking for a conscientious family practice attorney. read more

Phill and his whole team are fantastic. Professional, fair, capable and just good people. Mr. Marr represented my fiancé who is a wonderful father trying to get reasonable visitation of his 5year old son. His mother moved them out of state and refused visits In California. Her lawyer made things very difficult by being untruthful and dragging the case out. Mr. Marr was very fair with his fees and Eventually my fiancé and his son were awarded the time and father son visitation they both deserve. We are eternally grateful to everyone in Phil Marrs office. Can't recommend him highly enough. read more

Phil Marr and his professional team were very dedicated to our Move Away case from the very beginning to the end. The mother of my Fiancée's children served him with a Move Away order as she planned to move away with the children to a different state. She proposed to only allow him see the children during the summer and every other winter break. My family and I felt very helpless and devastated at that time. We came across Phil Marr, and he quickly made us feel comfortable and expressed a great interest in the case. Phil and his staff always ensured they had time to meet with us and quickly responded to any of the questions that we had. They were very efficient and replied to every email we sent in a timely manner regardless if it was during the weekend. Phil suggested deposing the mother of my fiancé's children and using the evidence in a trial and it was well worth it. The final decision was to leave the children in California and grant my fiancée shared custody. We are extremely happy and very blessed to have had Phil represent us during the trail. I highly recommend Phil Marr. read more

Phil Marr is the best family law attorney I know. His philosophy (based on my experience) is to educate clients thoroughly and then work to find solid, practical solutions, all at an extremely reasonable cost. He is the perfect combination of relentless advocate and collaborative solution finder. I've had experience with more traditional divorce attorneys whose business seems to be built on exploiting conflict as a pretext for expensive legal theatrics that net their clients little benefit. Phil is the antidote to that. I cannot describe what a breath of fresh air it is to work with him. When we're at our most vulnerable, we can all use someone who delivers this level of care and professionalism. read more
