As a company that makes well over 750,000 + a year I expected better quality work and customer relations.
Marquez Construction was to replace my roof, old siding, fascia boards, flashing, clean up and dispose of materials, repair porch and replace old wood, flashing, clean upstairs portion where a rafter was to be replaced ( I later found out that a rafter was not replaced because no replacement was needed and I was charged for it. I have pictures that detail. There remains a breach of contract.
Work was and remains subpar and is not of quality work as that was explained or presented in the contract nor was the work equivalent to the work I have seen at other locations Marquez has performed work. Holes in woodwork remain where critters are entering my home, nails are sticking out from the woodwork, materials were left, wood is not flushed with the other wood, fascia boards are not placed properly, wood work and flashing were are remain not completed. The porch is WIDE open and without screening and doors.
Oscar was my initial point of contact at that time to advise that materials could NOT be left outside and I would not be responsible for them being stolen. He contacted Fredrico "Freddy", owner of Marquez Construction.
I was told that materials would be left in a secured and locked trailer. However, I ended up staying until 7:30 p.m. one evening watching roofers haul two pallets of shingles up and down 1 ladder to place them on the roof for safekeeping. I was advised by one of the employees that there was no need for me to remain on site and that they would ensure that all shingles were on the roof. I remained on site and chronicled activities via pictures and text messages and my concerns before, during, and after the work was supposed to have been completed to Oscar.
Unfortunately, I had a family emergency and had to leave during the final stages of the carport being built. Once I returned the workers were gone and two "young boys" that I had never seen while I was I was onsite working on a portion of one of the now leaking parts of the carport. I called and questioned and was told that the other men would return. They never did and the "young boys" advised me that the men were to return.
Marquez Construction DID NOT complete the work AS STATED in the contract. My porch remains unfinished and it began to leak four weeks after they left and it continues to leak causing more damage.
The roof on the porch is FLAT and was covered with shingles. Any contractor knows that shingles are not to be placed on a FLAT ROOF unless there is a BUR : Built-up Roof Membrane (I know this because a friend came to assist me when I realized the porch was leaking. There are also some questionable work done extremely subpar that the 'young boys" completed. I have pictures and corresponding text messages and also submitted pictures to both Oscar and "Freddy" via his secretaries Melissa and Primy.
After I didn't receive a response from Oscar about repairs, completion of the job as detailed in the contract, and the issue about the clean up, and rafter (I was charged for and that was never replaced because it didn't need replacing). I later found out that he no longer worked for the company through Melissa.
I finally made arrangements and met with "Freddy" at my home, shared my concerns and pictures of the shoddy work with him. I showed him the leak other issues and explained that my friend George identified one of many issues that I had observed and questioned during the process along with many others that I not being a contractor would know or notice. One that my friend George mentioned was a BUR was needed and the shingles would have to come off, the wood would need replacing and fascia board was not properly installed, holes remained in the woodwork, and the wood on the dog and bird houses were not completed properly, and unfinished wood and flashing remained unfinished among other issues.
I showed him the shoddy work, explained that the "young boys' were at my home when I returned all the other men were gone. "Freddy" glanced at the work, took a few pictures and later advised me that if my friend George could do the work and if it was reasonable then he would compensate him. Freddy did not attempt to truly look at the shoddy work. He didn't identify where the leak was coming from, he did not lift a finger, I guess because he had on his starched iron plaid shirt, jeans, and nice boots on and didn't intend to truly render the issue.
George returned with another roofer who identified even more issues with the job. George contacted "Freddy" and quoted him at price of $2500.00, which for the amount of work to be done correctly is relatively inexpensive especially comparative to what I paid for such subpar craftsmanship, unfinished work and what I have endured dealing with this company and "Freddy's" inappropriate response to a paying customer who clearly got taken advantage;did not respond to request. read more
