A little over a year ago, my wife and I purchased the home that we hoped to watch our children grow up in. Just recently, however, we noticed kitchen tiles cracking and laminate flooring warping in our living room. Two days prior to scheduling your service I decided to prove to my husband that what was coming through our ceiling vents was unhealthy. He was not able to understand about an odor that was irritating to me and he could not smell it. Having had numerous sinus surgeries and infection, my sinus was wide open to pollutants. Now, my proof was to stand in front of a ceiling vent as it actively blew the irritating odor and the air, heavy with particles of fiber unseen by the naked eye. I didn't realize how serious my proof would be. Immediately, I started feeling the fiber in my throat and eyes. It was there alright. We scheduled to remove the 50 year old fiberglass and cellulose insulation on Friday, October 12th with . There was nothing for me to do except let them in! A few weeks ago, my wife and I realized that we were having some buckling issues with the hardwood floors in our house. I knew that the house had crawlspace moisture issues in the past, and decided to have someone come out and have a look. Sunlight Contractors was my first call based on the strength of their online ratings and user reviews. I called them late one afternoon and one of their guys, Clayton, was out the next morning. Clayton went under the house and took moisture readings and found high levels of moisture in my crawlspace. He called the owner, Ira, on the phone and they both described to me what would be required to truly solve the problem: drying out the moist wood with a large indirect heater and spraying closed cell foam insulation once the drying was complete. For several years, we dealt with a high moisture problem under our home (part of which is over 100 years old). The moisture was reported to us by termite inspectors, AC servicemen, a floor installer, etc.). We tried several methods of control, such as ground barriers and ventilation fans. After a few years, a large section of the floor began "cupping." We then learned that others in this area (Thibodaux) and a friend in Baton Rouge were having the same problem. This was occurring in multiple areas due to the high rainfall in Southeast Louisiana over the past several years. It wasn't until we learned about Sunlight Contractors that we got the answer to the problem. The main problem is that there is severe damage to the underlying foundation caused by moisture destroying wood, a scary situation to say the least. The floor almost fell through. (A friend down the road had a bed post break through the floor. He has the same problem as we do.) Sunlight diagnosed the problem. No one else did. All of our prior efforts were a waste of time and money. Sunlight got on the job quickly, pulling out rotting 2" x 12" x 20" joists and 6" by 6" support beams, replacing each with pressure treated pine. After the wood is replaced, the foam insulation will be installed. There is still a lot of work to do. So far, everything has gone well. I have a feeling that this project will end well. My issues started when we noticed our original floor boards in our 100 year old house started cupping on the edges. With the amount of humidity and rain that we get I had moisture problems under my house. My initial online research led me to another company that told me about their fancy elaborate system that would take care of all of my problems. Evidently they were in over their head because they stopped returning my calls and emails about the quote that was promised to me the next day. One week later I called Sunlight Contractors. Three days later they showed up to my house and went to work. They sealed off the underside of the house and used an indirect heater and duct work to dry out the wood. Four days later the closed cell spray foam was installed. That was yesterday, so far so good. My floors have mostly returned to original state and the entire down stairs feels more stable. Time will tell on the energy savings but I am sure it will be significant. The entire crew was professional and seems to have eliminated our problems and helped us preserve our home. My name is Jonathan G. and my family loves our vintage home in Luling, LA. From the rough cut cypress to the crystal door knobs. The only problem with vintage is the old utilities, the lack of central A/C, and no insulation. But, I've remodeled, upgraded, intalled A/C and I'm now complete with the new plumbing, gas, and electrical under the house. I first called Sunlight about 3 years ago because the new A/C was struggling in the 170 degree attic. 8" of open cell foam fixed that. My girlfriend's house is on piers and had a moisture issue due to prior leaking cast iron pipe. We started noticing the wood floors bowing in the living room. I found Ira and Sunlight Contractors on Google and had him come out to take a look. From the first person that came to do an inspection until the last guy stopped by for cleanup his company is First Class! Ira recommended that we lay a moisture barrier and wrap the house and dry it out using a huge diesel heater. When we started the drying process her subfloors and floor joists were 30% to 40% moisture. After several days of running the heater we got the levels under 10% and 12%. Ira's crew then sprayed the entire under side of the house with closed-cell foam at an average of 2 inches under the entire area: covering subfloors, joists and brick/concrete columns. We aren't finished laying the floors, but I can already tell a noise difference with the floors. I can't wait to see the difference it will make in utility cost. My experience with Sunlight Contractors was beyond superb and excellent! I did not want to have anyone else deal with the mold and foam insulation. Mr. Ira is very knowledgeable and was so helpful with explaining the cost/quote. He also had great insight and advice on choosing floors in which we needed to replace. Called Sunlight on Monday and to my surprise had Clayton come out that afternoon to give me a quote. I was not quite ready to do the job, I was going to remove ceiling sheetrock myself, but Ashley did a fantastic job keeping up with me for when my renovations were complete (which was over a month).
