This is the slowest leasing company we have ever dealt with . Marlin organized two leases with our customer. We are the seller and our customer organized the lease for roughly 12K and our customer waited over a week for the lease to be approved and eventually funded. We expected overnight delivery of a check but Marlin sent it on a Thursday and it arrived on a Monday. The second add/on related lease for over 5K request was submitted on a March 2nd and took until March 8th for us to receive a check. Other leasing firms we have worked with have been almost aggressive requesting equipment lists and invoices. Find a smaller leasing company. They are typically are chomping at the bit to get a lease finalized. Marlin has not asked me to write this review and I do so of my own accord without compensation. My business has financed about $250,000 of equipment over the past 5 years with Marlin. First with their leasing company and then with the bank side of their operations. Marlin financed our business that few at the time would consider giving money to. I run a equipment rental company and after the financial market meltdown it was hard for us to get financing for the type of business we are and the asset we had wanted to finance. We paid off the first couple of contracts and it opened up a much larger financing approval at a rate that even my bank would be hard pressed to lend at. I am not saying Marlin is perfect. The way they have quoted rates to me a few years back personally is not transparent and in my opinion, not an an industry standard. It could have been that specific salesperson at Marlin. My recent experiences have been great. Kudos to Brian McMahon, Tom Lockhart and Nick Polaise for their efforts. Now we have grown our business ten fold in the last five years with millions of dollars in equipment financing borrowed and paid off from a number of commercial banks including Marlin. With our financing history we are able to secure financing without a personal guarantee at rates that are highly competitive. Something your bank will probably never be able to offer. I can get a huge line of credit at our bank but choose not to because of the control they want on our business. I would say that if you are disappointed with Marlin, then you should look at yourself first. Harsh words I know. As business owners we should be making ourselves aware of the contracts we are agreeing to and that we should know better to take anyone's word as a contract. Yes, there can be gotcha's in a leasing contract. There will be in every contract. Contracts are written by a single party to benefit that party and not you. It's your job as a business owner to scrutinize every transaction before agreeing to it and making the changes that benefit you before signing. Some tips on financing with any bank. Before applying, get a sense of your personal and business credit. Correct any mistakes. For personal credit get your real FICO score for all three bureaus. For business credit use Dun and Bradstreet. Equifax and Experian also have a commercial credit reporting division. There's also PayNet which is widely used to report lease and net payment accounts. You'll spend a couple hundred getting all this information but it is invaluable to know what your credit looks like prior to applying. If you have bad credit, a startup company, or a underperforming or undesirable business classification you will pay higher rates or be denied entirely. Verify the type of financing to make sure it is in line with your business needs and life of the equipment. e.g. $1 buyout or EFA on asset likely to have significant value at end of term or you will likely want to keep. FMV on asset likely to have little value (use or value) to business at end of term. Ensure the equipment will add a significant multiple of the investment to your bottom line. E.g. $200 monthly cost adds $800 to bottom line. 36 month term with $1 buyout equals $7201 investment which enables at $28800 return + value of the asset at end of term. Totally worth it! If you cannot justify an equipment purchase without a reasonable return on your investment then do not buy it. Request documentation of all fees. UCC fees, Wire fees, Doc fees, Inspection fees.. These are negotiable! Make sure all fields of the contract are filled out before signing. Monthly payment, Term length, Advance or Deposit amounts, Commencement or start date. If there's something you don't understand, google it or better yet, hire an attorney. A $500 investment for a licensed attorney could save you tens of thousands of dollars. Get a quote from other banks or leasing agents. Do not allow them to pull your personal credit each time. Ask them to give you a quote based on your personal and business credit findings with the understanding that if figures are different at the time then the quote may not be valid. Sign up for automatic payments immediately! You can do this by signing up online or by getting the forms from customer service. The complaints about Marlin not offering autopay make no sense at all. I have paid my 8+ contracts for years on ACH and there was never a late charge. Get a quote from other Vendors! I require my staff to get three quotes. You'd be surprised what you can save when you shop around. Thanks for reading. This company get a -10 stars in my book. - Read my update below which I added on 4.28.15 - changed rating to a 3. Jerry W. We just got a lease with this company several months ago. My first clue that this was less than top notch company was the letter I received when our account was set-up and the letter had the word "business" misspelled. That raised a red flag at that point. I am contacting the company who arranged this lease to express my concern to them not to put anyone else with this company. Now I have received 2 invoices with late charges and have now been on hold for 12+ minutes trying to speak to someone. I mailed my check from ABQ, NM on 4.8.15 which should have been ample time to receive my payment by the 15th. I just checked online and the average 1st class time from New Mexico to Pennsylvania is 2-7 days per the USPS. So my payment should have been received in time. Today, 4.27.15, I am mailing via priority mail my payment due on 5.15.15. I will have tracking to show when the payment is received by the lock box. If I have another late charge, I am writing to the Executive VP and Chief Sales Officer, Ed Siciliano of the Mt. Laurel, NJ office. Angry in Albuquerque. OK Day two. 4.28.15. I just received a call from the sales rep for my vendor who sold us our equipment. He was very helpful and agreed that it should not have taken 10 days to process my payment. I have been credited back my two late charges. The rep, Vince D., also told me that they have hired a new individual to oversee the payment processing for Marlin. Vince also said that 10 days is unacceptable, so they are working on more timely processing of mailed payments. I am now not angry in Albuquerque and will see how things go over time. At least, my contacting my vendor got results and I am very pleased about this. Thanks do DSI and to Marlin for addressing my concerns. Based on this, I am changing my rating to the middle. If Marlin does indeed do what I was told then should result in a good relationship between our company and Marlin. read more

as an update, I was contacted Greg, AVP stating "I obtained approvals for ******* for both lease" this approval was provided with no new information. He also stated "I apologize for the confusion and frustration.". I upgraded the review since they did respond when this review went up. But it does little to correct the damage to my rep as a reseller in the fact that this impacted my customer and I personally recommended Marlin to my customer. I will definitely look to other options first when setting up leasing for my customers. I was contacted by a rep of the company. We were eventually able to get on an auto pay plan. I've upped it to 3 stars because they did reach out to me and address my main concern. But I didn't go higher because it still took too much work to get on the autopay, some of the fees I had to pay were not made clear to me and seem a bit excessive, and (before I got on autopay) it wouldn't let you do a prepayment or schedule one... so you had to stay on top of it every month or face some headaches. read more

As other stated here, STAY AWAY from them! I wished I had looked up reviews before I used them to purchase some sign equipment. I asked before I signed the contract if I could pay it off early, she tells me yes but she'd wait until the lease is at least 2 years old past the highest interest time. Once I signed and asked a few months later I was told no it made no difference they just have one BIG lump charge for the lease. I got screwed. Also I have been on time on all my payments but one payment I guess I paid after 7pm the evening it was due and was considered late, A WHOPPING $50.00 late fee for being a couple hours late ON the due date. Our company has been a customer for 3-years and not once have we ever had an outstanding balance til' the ending of our rental agreement. Ever since we have contacted our Sales Representative about buying out the printer we had been leasing. We had settled on a finale quote for less than $500 and not more than a week had pasted til we were told an additional $200 was added to the buyout quote for a late response! I had attempted to reach out to customer service about my issue and all they did was transfer me over to our Sales Rep. All we wanted was to close our account with the finale buyout quote that was honored to us but instead we are getting the run around by each department in this company. Marlin is a shady equipment leasing company that provided obsolete equipment through a scammy merchant payment processor, and of course refuses to upgrade the contract on something that will continue to work. Always be sure to price things out on eBay or other equipment providers, lest you be taken for a ride & wind-up paying monthly for junk that has no use or value. Their business model includes entrapping customers in a longer term than agreed to by losing paperwork, failing to return phone calls, bureaucratic red tape, dubious contractual technicalities, and claiming that they've sent emails that are never received. So Spectrum conned me into a contract with these people. Marlin has us now stuck in a 4 year contract paying $6200 for 6 phones that would have cost $129 each ($774). And that is not including all of the extra fees and "late charges" which will end up being over $10,000. Should I have read the contract I was signing more thoroughly and not just listened to what the Spectrum rep was saying? YES... Should I have done more research on this company, the equipment, and what Spectrum was selling us... YES... But it is completely ridiculous that there are NO terms in the contract to ANY benefit of the consumer. It literally states that everything is "as is" and there will be no returning of the equipment because they have already paid for it and even if something breaks not being our fault, they will still not help us. It is extremely sad that you can't trust businesses anymore. They don't make enough money being honest and having integrity. Now I have no choice but to have a lawyer look into this. To start, I am a small business owner, and have excellent credit. My first lease with them was for security cameras at a rate of 12%. I paid it off early and it was an expected transaction. My second lease with them was for a POS system. I stated i would use them, if I got a more reasonable interest rate. They gave me 7%. They explained there would be a document fee of $129. I asked about early pay off, as I did last time, and they stated that I could pay it off early. The fine print apparently states that you are to pay the finances for the entire time even if you pay it off early. It's well hidden, I still can't find it, and certainly never verbalized. I called to get my pay off amount and there was $1494 discrepancy. They couldn't even tell me how much was paid to my vendor without me insisting on it. They then ask me if I would I like a new copy of my contract. Well, my response is.......here is a new copy of YOUR contract. I will NEVER recommend you, nor use you again. Total Scam! First they charge you a late penalty if you don't how some how manage to get their bill, cut a check and then have them receive it all within 2 days (Strange how there is no postmark on their bills for you to know when they sent it). And t hen they charge you interest on the late payment and TAX on it as well! My equipment hasn't worked in years. The vendor refuses to fix it. Why should they when Marlin keeps collecting? You see Marlin has no liability if the vendor that sells you the equipment doesn't do their job (they "are not responsible" for vendor negligence). So vendor makes off getting payments from Marlin for selling you non functional equipment. A perfect scam. Stay clear and Just by a Nest cam if you need survellience cameras. read more

After Marlin chased me to do more and more financing with them, and after being an excellent customer of theirs for years, I called asking for some accommodations due to recent changes in the bottom line of my business. I stated that I fully intend to meet my obligations, and even offered to prepay a significant portion of the loan, just to be able to work out a new payment schedule with them. They refuse to even discuss this with me, saying (quoting their rep verbatim) "if you unable (sic) to meet those payment obligations, the account will be handled by our collections team". This, for a company that claims it is "committed to the delivery of quality credit products to small businesses with exceptional customer service and convenience, one customer at a time". Hi: I think I should share this so that others don't make the same mistake. I got a lease with Marlin Leasing. I sent an electronic payment thwogh Well Fargo on the 22nd of the month (Estimated arrival no later than the 29th) and they wanted to charge late fees because they claim they got it on the 5th of the next month, they finaly waived the fee off, I hope I don't have to deal with that one again. They do not offer electronic payment either, so you have two choices, pay by check or by phone, if you pay by phone they charge you a $10 fee. I hope this helps someone out there. Just to add to it. Second month in a row. Now I sent the payment on the 19th of April (Estimated delivery no later than the 26th), it is the 30th and they claim they have not received it yet! I have had the same issues, my payment is due on the 25th and no matter when we schedule the payment with the bank bill pay, it is always late. what a racket, you would think they are holding the check and not posting it. I requested a summary of my account to reconcile and was told "No, I am not giving it to you, I am telling you how to do it." then I had insurance charges that took them 4 months to remove but they did not remove the late fees for the invalid charges. they are very unprofessional. Where do I start! 1) No matter how quick you pay your payments, most of the time you end up being late and you get an astronomical late fee added to your balance. 2) Customer service is rude and they all have attitude problems. 3) We have had over 15 leases with many different lease companies in the past 20 years which all have been dollar buy out leases. we have never had any lease company ask for the final ONE DOLLAR. it is basically a formality.. My lease with Marlin leasing was a five year Dollar Buy out lease. Last full payment was sent in March of 2012. Suddenly, in May of 2013 we receive a bill for approx. $160. we call in and we are told that the buy out was not paid. Therefore we have accrued a late fee. After more than a year later they suddenly decided to charge us approx. $160.00 as a late fee because the final ONE DOLLAR was not paid. We never received a bill for the final ONE DOLLAR buy out either. when we called in we were told that's how it is and we need to pay the late fee. 4) The original lease broker who wrote the contract over 6 years ago will no longer deal with them either. 5) We receive MULTIPLE automated calls EVERY DAY from Marlin Leasing claiming that we have a past due balance. Our phones are being answered by our customer service personnel and this tactic makes management look bad to our employees. We have since restricted and blocked their number so it will not ring through. They also have the worst reputation on the internet. read more

I am leasing a spin duct system..I have got behind a couple payments to be honest, but still make the payment when I have the money... They seem not to care about anyones financial life.. They have sent me a letter of threat saying they will take legal action if I do not pay...(like I haven't paid them) This is the 1st time I have put a 1star up of any company. Some guy named Ernesto is calling me in efforts of finding someone I haven't seen/talked to for over 4 years! When I asked how he got my number, he said it most likely came from a comprehensive report (aka- they purchased a list of the intended contacts neighbors or old phone records to cold call strangers while looking for someone they have done business with. (WTF? how is that NOT illegal). He insisted on asking where I could find the 2 people he was looking for, and If I had their contact information. We used marlin to fund the purchase some business equipment. The sales person misrepresented the terms horribly!!!! Their was no mention of a monthly insurance change! One Star is the Lowest I can Go...Unfortunately!! Not impressed with Marlin nor their sales representatives in New Orleans, LA (Unicopy). Someone in our company was coerced into leasing a Toshiba e-Studio copier which has been a nightmare for 5 years. Rather than looking out for us as the customer, we were sold the worst quality copier with an expensive service plan and bad loan customs from Marlin. After reviewing the costs of these terms, we could have bought 5 copiers outright! The terms of their lease was over $50k and we could have bought a new copier for just over $10k. I guess BUYER BEWARE AND SHAME ON US. But everyone should know about this company and their sales representatives prior to signing on the dotted line. This copier was probably out of commission at least a fourth of the time during this 5 year periord. Bad print quality, loud clanks and bangs, always waiting on parts etc. etc. etc. Personally, why would a good company knowingly endorse and sell their customers such bad equipment? Commissions! Hence why we paid almost 5 times the amount of the cost of a quality copier at the end of the lease itself. At the end of this fiasco, we actually had to store their piece of junk equipment at our office for FOUR months as THEY REFUSED to accept payment to payoff the final 3 months of the lease and accept the equipment. They refused to work with us albeit we wanted to payoff the lease just to be done with them!!! Also, their "agreement" is very one sided and makes the customer responsible for refurbishing their equipment. Which, I'm sure, we will get popped for some cost for their inadequate and poor quality equipment.Pretty sweet deal eh? For Marlin and their sales reps of course, not for you, the end-user (hence the good reviews by their sales reps). Avoid leasing from Marlin and/or their authorized sales reps at all costs. ++++++ Update: Still getting invoices from Marlin for taxes on their owned equipment.
