I've been in a few times since it's opened and I've never been disappointed. I happened by here today with one of my friends so we could check out the sales. I have to say, I was even more impressed than usual. Service is always great, but even with a store crowded with throngs of bargain hunters, we both received excellent service. The salespeople were extremely helpful despite the crowd. Whenever a store has a sale on, I always feel like I'm going to end up picking through the remnant pieces of clothing that no one else wants, however, today, that was not the case...the sale prices were amazing and the selection was ridiculous. We had a great time shopping and literally had to stop ourselves from buying more than we did. Overall, they carry a great selection of office attire, and great weekend attire as well. Will definitely be going back...there's a reason this place is one of my favourite shopping spots.

I thought I'd give it a shot and see if they'd be nice enough to accommodate me. The manager I spoke to certainly didn't look too pleased that I was exchanging an item instead of purchasing something, however, she made an exception and allowed me to exchange the shirt for the current selling price ($25 dollars less than original value). I quickly picked out something and paid $8 more. Another sales person helped me at the cashier who was friendlier than the Manager. She wrapped the new shirt up nicely and apologized they couldn't do something more. Overall, a pleasant experience at Ann Taylor where you'll receive A-OK service!

For example, there was a sign in the window for months that said "70% off Everything" and in very little text said that "Burberry and New Arrivals" weren't included. What this translated into was 70% off high priced obscure brand names, about 50% of merchandise; hardly "Everything". They really like to tote about their Burberry collection but its very very over-priced and I wonder how they will hold up once the Burberry store opens on Bloor Street. Sales people are some what pushy and as is typical for Yorkville they really don't have any flare for fashion and are more like sales robots.

My attempt to try on shoes led to more "Nope dont have it." than actual trying or even suggestions of other shoes that are similar and have sizes available. In general, I found the staff to be doing the bare minimum. Not rude but just answering the questions you ask and not being proactively helpful to make that sale or show me a shoe that actually has my size. Now if they were busy, I'd get that type of service may not be there but there was 3 staff and 3 people in the store... I think that isn't impossible. As for the shoes themselves, they're kinda cute but warning... try them on. Some of the heeled sandals have crazy tight straps that are awkwardly placed (quite forward on the foot so its flattening and squishing the toes) and it just kills to wear them. I'm not sure if the smaller sizes are this way or all the sizes are but... fair warning, try before buy! So did I end up buying a pair... no. Yes, they are pricey (but in my humble American experience there is quite a mark up on *all* clothes in Canada vs the States - like a cheap tank top at H&M will be $5 more automatically in Canada - the exchange rate right now more than makes up for it) but a lot of the items aren't much - if any - cheaper online. I also just love supporting places like this, since there are so few left, and since a lot of "goth" brands run small I prefer to try a lot of the stuff on in person. The girl working and I had a good chat about the history/future of Lip Service in particular and some other stuff. She was super helpful and friendly which was also a change from a lot of alt shops, where the employees seem to spend their time perfecting that "I'm way too fucking cool to talk to you" vibe that makes me eye roll. I wanted *all* the things but settled on two LS dresses, one of which was shiny PVC and fulfilled all of 15 year old me's dreams. They made snarky comments about how I didn't need a new coat and much more. When I returned with a bunch of friends, since I now had a huge store credit, the sales associate wouldn't even pull a coat for me to try on since he said, "I tried it on the day before". I then told him that I wanted to try it on for my friends so I could get their opinion on the coat. The sales associate then walked away. Talk about rude! I just spent over $1000 in their store and they just walk away?? Are you kidding me?? Luckily I had three amazing friends with me who helped me pull and try on as many coats as possible to find one that would be a decent fit for the cold winter months ahead. This store would not give me a refund. Any other store would have given me a refund or purchased the coat I wanted in the bigger size. I couldn't believe the snarky comments coming out of the employees mouths. My friends were flabbergasted at the attitude the employees were spitting out at us. I will NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN!!!! I rather go to a store like Holt Renfrew or Mendocino where they do what needs to be done to make the customer happy. Holt Renfrew will fix products that need mending and their customer service is way better. Mendocino would have ordered me the coat in the larger size in a heartbeat. Even though I didn't end up buying mine from Due West since we were in a different part of town prior to leaving Toronto, their suggestions helped me narrow down the jacket I eventually bought and love in this weather. They also offer Fusion Fit for petites that we didn't find calling around other CG resellers like Holt Renfrew. The wide-selection and availability in sizes definitely makes this a good spot to get a good dose of goosey warmth.

Serpentine is a very well curated boutique - from homeware to motorcycle helmets to skateboards that I'm not even sure you can buy to avant garde jewelry and clothing, they build up a fantastic image and aesthetic. For this I give them props - I love when a boutique commits fully. The workers tend to be dressed fully in the type of clothes they sell, and are pretty knowledgeable about the designers. That being said, this store is very clearly targeted at people who have a LOT of money to spend. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, (and to be honest, it makes a lot of sense, given the prime location and the price of the garms) but what I take issue with is how the store treats people that they don't think will cash out. I've been interrogated about whether or not I would commit to buying something before they let me try it on, and the majority of the people I talk to have similar experiences to share. I've made a few purchases there and they seem to have eased up, but it contributes to a very negative first impression. They also talk shit about the other clothing stores in the area, which I guess fits with their edgy aesthetic. If you've got money and are interested in this sort of designer clothing, Paul and co are great affable folks and I strongly recommend checking out serpentine. If you're looking for a boutique where you can try on geobaskets before buying a pair on grailed, I recommend staying away, because they have no incentive to help you and you won't have a great time.
