This place is perfect if you wish to shop local. And the quality is outstanding! I first learned of…read moreSabrina Butterfly Designs at the Butterdome Craft Sale in the spring, and visited their grand opening at their new location in the Montrose area of Edmonton and was wowed at the quality of the merchandise! I bought a second dress with pockets (this time in red) to go with my personal favourite that I purchased in the spring (the favourite one is purple). I also got a top and a business jacket/sweater which I adore from the sales rack! The quality is awesome and the style of the garments is great too -- most are machine washable and many of the dresses have pockets. The shop also stocks other local art and jewelry. The space itself is gorgeous and well designed. It is a bit off of my beaten track but it's well worth a visit.

The owner, whose first name, unsurprisingly, is Sabrina, and whose middle name is actually "Butterfly," has sewn most of the fashions on display. She's grown big enough that she sources out some of the manufacturing to home sewers, and she's got partnerships with other designers all over Canada. Sabrina stocks some of their jewelry and accessories. I'd describe the fashions as urban casual with a nostalgic homemade feel. If you've ever shopped at Nokomis, on Whyte Ave., the clothes remind me a bit of theirs. In fact, before she had her own shop she used to sell out of there. Her apparel is made of comfortable materials and aren't too tailored, so they are complimentary to all body shapes. She loves vibrant colours and pretty, classic cuts with a bit of an edge.

As I am now retired, I browse the sales racks and often find the piece I had my eye on at the beginning of the season, now selling for less! I find that helpful :)

Cleo bares so many similarities to Ricki's that it was really no surprise to me when I saw the two…read moreclothing stores so close together in the mall. Much like Ricki's they stock women's work wear as well as casual everyday garments. I do find the emphasis however at Cleo is more on work wear as opposed to their casual clothes. I also find the prices at Cleo to be a bit on the expensive side. They had dresses going for $110.00 here and im quite certain I could have picked up something similar for around $60-$70 over at Ricki's or Reitmans. Also I find the styles here to be a bit better suited to more mature ladies. I think the staff must feel the same way as the associate working at the time of my visit seemed surprised to see me browsing in the store and the conversation that followed after her greeting me seemed a bit awkward and forced. They stock a nice product here but nothing about it really stands out and makes me want to become a regular customer. If you work in an office setting and find you go through your work wear quickly however you might want to consider popping in and taking a look.
