I've been a Mark's Barber Shop customer for years and for almost all of that time I would give them a 5 star rating. Mark was one of the finest barbers in the area. But Mark started towards retirement and brought in his son, John, a great guy, but not the barber his dad was. As Mark completely retired, they've had barbers of various skill levels cycle through. After Covid, everything became by appointment and often times that didn't work with my schedule. By chance, I tried another barber shop in another locale and got a very good haircut and began frequenting them. Last week, I happened to need a haircut and was in Gig Harbor and tried for a walk-in. I was able to get an appointment that worked and came back at the time. A lady barber cut my hair and I just asked to clean it up a little and just off the ears. When I was done, she showed me the results- I was basically given almost an Army recruit haircut. In 50 years, my hair hadn't been that short. When she asked "How's that?" What the hell are you supposed to say? The damage was done and nothing left to do but let it grow out and never go back there. Even my wife and daughter remarked what a terrible haircut it was.. Mark, I had many a great haircut at your place, but the high review of your shop is probably a lot of inertia from days gone by. Adios, amigo. read more

Saturday morning took my 4yo son for a hair cut; He's super anxious about hair cut in general, and has had bad experiences at chain cut places. So we walk in and there are three other boys around 3-4 there with their dad's, put my son at ease. Friendly greetings, first time there but made to feel like a regular. Great cuts, quality work. I've been seeing Mark for my haircuts for years. He does an excellent job and very personable. He holds a good conversation so you don't just sit in the chair waiting to be done. I enjoy the appointment system that he uses as apposed to showing up and waiting in line. Great haircuts, reasonable prices and generally a great place to get your hair cut. Right next to the Inn At Gig Harbor, Mark's is what a barber shop should be! With flat screen TV on on ESPN all day and Hot Rod magazines on the table! Oh, and whether you get Mark or his son John to cut your hair, it will be perfect. The coolest thing about this shop is that Mark opens at 6:30AM Tues-Sat! That means you can get your hair cut on your way to work or you can get Jr's hair cut on the way to school! There is not any other barber in Gig Harbor that is open this early! read more

When I first moved to Gig Harbor in 2003, I tried to find a good barber shop. I was spoiled by a good friend that had an old fashioned barber shop in Saratoga. My barber there was fantastic and I could never find anyone like him until I stumbled across Mark's shop while waiting for the Kitsap/Bremerton Shuttle. Mark did a better job than my favorite barber back home so I've going to his shop ever since my discovery. To my surprise, his son Jonathan joined the shop and he too is an incredible barber. The shop is tucked away near the Inn at Gig Harbor, so just look for the rotating barber pole outside. You won't be disappointed. They are very reasonable, but must of all, they are very professional and good at what they do. I do recommend you Friend them on Facebook so that you can see any schedule changes and hours of operation. read more

Came out here from Tacoma. Didn't care about an extra bridge toll. Heard only great things about this place and needed to get a first haircut for my 2 year old. Glad I made the special trip. My son pretty much cried the entire time only because he had no clue what the heck was going on. I believe it was Jon that cut his hair (the younger guy) he was AWESOME! Very patient. Put on cartoons for him and Quickly got through the cut. He did a great job and did exactly what I wanted. After it was done and my son cried everyone's ears out he had no hesitation to grab a Kleenex and wipe his nose. He also filled out a first hair cut certificate a long with a lock of hair taped to it! Wasn't expecting that. Will definitely come back! read more

Went there once for a haircut. Hair cut quality was good. However wait times are often very long in the afternoons and hours are unusual. 7-5am does not make a lot of sense for people that have jobs, 9-7pm is far more sensible. read more

Moved here from San Diego a month ago and had been looking around for a barber shop when I found this place. With all the 5 star reviews I figured I'd go and check it out to see if it was really as good as everyone says. Im happy to say that it was. I got my hair cut by Mark himself and he did an excellent job. The shop is well kept, clean, and everyone is super friendly. A lot of obvious long time customers when I was there and lots of conversation. Mark himself made me feel right at home and had me walking out a for sure to return customer.
