I'm totally in agreement with both of the other reviews for this place - it's so bad. The most…read moreuseful thing in here is probably Argos, and that's saying something. At one point there was an upstairs indoor market where loads of little stalls had various things on offer, from trinkets to paintings, and it was quite popular. Since that disappeared I've probably made an appearance in here once, and that was to walk through to get to the other side.

The New Cross Shopping Centre has been in Hamilton for years and years. It used to house a massive…read moreSomerfield store and a butchers, and not much else. Newly refurbished in 2004, it now holds the same butchers, no Somerfield and...well, not much else. There is a nice new shiny floor and automatic doors though, and a sit in Greggs the Bakers. That's about the highest accolade i can give the place. I still tend to walk through here though, and i have no idea why. Perhaps to see if it has magically turned into somewhere with good shops overnight, or maybe just to remind myself what a pointless place it is. Every single tome i have been, it's literally like a ghost town, with the majority of people here being employees. They did try to make the upstairs section into a market once, but that quickly petered out, and so the cycle of shops opening and swiftly closing three weeks later began, and hasn't stopped since. There is a big Savers in here which is good for toiletries, and an Argos, a Peacocks and Bon Marche, but other than that...it's empty. Give this one a miss...although if it's raining it gives a good bit of shelter between the bus station and the Regent Centre...that's it's only saving grace!

When this place opened last summer in Motherwell there was a wave of excitement, partly due to the…read morehorrendous state of Motherwell's shopping centre and that it might create some much needed new jobs. It houses a curious mix of products, from toiletries and stationary to pet food with alot of stuff in between. It's like an expensive pound shop. The range of toiletries is excellent and there is some cracking stationary, with some really nice things for in the home. It gets a poor review from me for managing to live up to the Wilkinson reputation by employing under 18's who they seemingly let go as soon as they turn 18. I certainly haven't seen any of the folk who started working in there last summer. The more senior staff members can be quite bossy as well with the younger staff which annoys me. Good for the toiletries when they're on promotion, otherwise it's a no no for me.

I have to slightly disagree with Steven here, because I think Motherwell needed something like…read moreWilkinsons to fill the hole that Woolworths left (God rest it's soul). It is very Woolworthsy in its feel and layout, although Wilkinsons also sells toiletries and medicines. You can pretty much get anything in here, from ink to duvets, picture frames to teapots. I got loads of stuff in here for stocking fillers at Xmas. It also has a wee pet section where I buy DentaSticks for my dog, considerably cheaper than in Asda. There are loads of staff in here, perhaps more than is necessary at the one time, and a particularly burly looking security man who always sits at the door. Wouldn't like to be caught by him with a bottle of Lynx down my jumper. Overall, a good addition to the town centre, providing the return of the much missed Woolies Pick n Mix, and much more.

I personally like the layout and the large range of clothes for guys, but there are loads of clothes for children and ladies. I always find it nice to look around the home wares for those small decorative touches. The big Issue I noticed, as we were with family members who have mobility issues and both use walking sticks, was the lack of space at the tills.. The main store itself appears to me to have a far better amount of space than a lot of retail stores. As it was quite busy and with the large amount of XMAS promotional items in the queue lane and by the tills themselves, there was, in my opinion, insufficient space for people with mobility issues. I'm not sure how anyone in a wheelchair would manage to get to the tills and then manage to get back out without having to wait for each till being freed up first. All in all I like this store but there are something's that let it down, in my opinion.

At Christmas they had some gift ideas and toys. The only negative I can think of is that the toys are on shelves and rows which as quite close together so you might have to wait to get into the shelf if there are a number of people looking at what you want to look at. They have various special offers on but you need a Matalan card to get them. The cards are free. There always seems to be a queue here but you do not spend long in them.
