Our first meal in Bilbao and it did not disappoint. We arrived at 7:30pm, after flying for over 10 hours and we were hungry! We were planning on dining in not just eating pintxos but their table service doesn't start til 8pm. The woman behind the bar was nice enough to let us get a few pintxos and bring them over to the table while we waited for the dinner service. Do try the sidra, bone dry but a nice start to the meal. The anchovies in olive oil and the clams with artichoke hearts were our starters, both simple yet delicious. They bring you bread but don't tell you they charge 1€ per piece which isn't much at all but it would be nice to know. The entrees were the squid in its ink and the cod with pil pil sauce. I thought the cod was bland and did not live up to the hype. The squid on the other hand was delicious! The squid was well cooked, not chewy and the sauce was so flavorful. For dessert we had the cheesecake with hazelnut ice cream, which was an odd pairing and a bit underwhelming. Overall a good meal in a relaxed environment full of locals. read more
