Broken into different levels with a balcony also available, the theatre has great acoustics and is accommodating to full scale productions or single one-man shows. I have had the opportunity to perform on the stage on a stand-up comedy show with comics from Scotland. Having worked at the theatre right beside this one, the Bluma Appel theatre (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/bluma-appel-theatre-toronto), being able to perform on the stage itself in the theatre complex that once employed me was a very cool thing. The sound system and acoustics are great for performances with a single microphone or full-scale theatrical productions. As with the Bluma Appel theatre, there are no obstructions in your way at all. Sight lines are clear of distraction, and give you full view of the stage in theatre itself. No problems here.

The facilities are actually really good for such a cosy space. We were a full house, but it didnt feel claustrophobic despite being in the basement. Laughed and cried. Stories of Iranian students learning English in Iran. Range of characters and back stories. Beautiful telling of the power of words, the complexity of #language, the things we lose in translation, racialized perception and internalized racism... Oh so many lived experiences displayed in full here. Highly recommend everyone watched it while it's here until March 5! The theatre has a few auditoriums that are smaller, which provide an intimate setting for their productions. Often after shows, the cast and crew will mingle with audience in the lobby. The lobby area has seating, and a cafe. Note that no coat check is available here. So keep your bag and jackets small and light!

Funny, funny and very heartfelt touching on issues of mental health and life. The play was in the upper theatre which is a few flights up the spiral staircase. It was hot up there but the play was so good you didn't notice most of the time. In the lower level you can walk around and look at various costumes and admire the historical details of the building.

The space is intimate, with great sightlines and acoustics, making every seat feel close to the action. The staff are friendly and the building is clean and easy to navigate. It's a great spot for a night out without the downtown crowds, and they host a wide range of events throughout the year. There are parking spots available in the back of the building with 2-hour parking limit.

The box office is on the left upon entering the building. There's also coat check and a small concession stand on the opposite side. The lobby is a spacious couple of stories with art hung on the wall. Each piece of art has a tag associated with it that informs you of the artist, title of artwork, medium, price and size. There were ushers ready to answer any questions and direct audience members scattered throughout the lobby. I saw second row from the stage on the left. It's nice to be close but you have to look up since the stage is higher. Also, the speakers are right in front of you so protect your eardrums with earplugs or sound isolating earphones. There is a gradient to the seating so that should help with everyone being able to see the stage. There is balcony seating with seats extending all the way to the front along both sides.

The theatres themselves are a decent size, but the draw is that no matter where you sit...you have a a great view of the stage or screen. There literally is not a bad seat in the house! I like this theatre because it often shows interesting and more unique performances. You probably aren't going to find these elsewhere so it's always a good idea to check out their website to see what they have going on. It reminds me a bit of the Soulpepper theatre in the Distillery District if one wants a rough comparison.

The instructor Jenelle Hanna lacked self awareness and quite honest seemed to be quite narcissistic. She lacked proper timing and needed instruction herself. It was difficult to take the little instruction there was from someone who hadn't worked in quite some time or had any acting accomplishments. There was no mental plasticity from this instructor attempting to teach students who had no acting experience. It would have been nice to have been taught by someone with experience in acting. Do better Hart House! Stop hiring out of work actors.
