This is just one of many pubs in the heart of Sandbach - a charming, almost medieval town centre with two ancient crosses! Although there are modern buildings there now, the atmosphere is still as calm and relaxed as it was when I first came here in the 1960s.
The Market Tavern is a wonderful old Robinson's pub, serving a good selection of their fine ales - on our visit they were Dizzy Blonde, Double-hopped and the wonderful Unicorn, all in excellent condition and well-served. There are still a number of different rooms so one can play pool or have a quiet drink depending on choice.
We were "out in the back" where there is a small, but perfect, concert room, used on Tuesday nights by Sandbach Folk Club - a purely acoustic club, perfect for the room size.
Just outside the concert room is a well-appointed outdoor area, covered over and very comfortable.
The toilet facilities are superb - always a pleasant surprise in a building as old as this. read more
