This was my first time ATTEMPTING to patronize this black business. I had no experience nor had I read any reviews my mistake ! I stopped in after my workout attempting to place an order ...no one to greet me but a guy eventually comes out of the back. He does not speak he only says I take it you didn't pre order , I say no. He proceeds to explain to me their order system which is via instagram. Luckily I do have a Instagram but what if I didn't ???? He was very condescending. I asked a question and he said look at Instagram. I don't understand how people think that treating people like this will result in future business. I was ready and willing to spend my money at this establishment and I was completely turned off. Poor customer service. Poor ordering process. Never again. read more

Just ate here for the first time and it was delicious!!! The atmosphere is so cute and quaint, it's like something that belongs in SOHO. Not a lot of seating, but a lot of people take out so it's not a problem. A must if you are vegan or vegetarian. The food is so good, you certainly won't be missing out if you choose to get a vegan dish. The avocado toast is amazing and a must get if you love avocado toast like me. Additionally, the waffle towers are phenomenal and just might be the best waffles I've ever had. I believe they are vegan, as the chef said they are made with coconut meat. They have so many flavors of waffles so it might be hard to pick just one! They also have an extensive smoothie and fresh juice menu if you're in the mood! A great, cute healthy spot that this area desperately needed! Bravo! read more

You should NOT be in a customer service industry if you don't know how to speak/interact with customers. I really believe ppl only go to her still because locally the pickings for healthy food is very slim. Her food is great in taste and it's affordable. Update: Never returning to this establishment ever again. We pulled up to the restaurant after having issues with the instagram ordering (they blocked one acct and my other acct is still on requested b/c it's a private page now.) We couldn't even come inside a guy came out and yelled, "If you're not the car where looking for, we're closed." I will never return to this establishment not even if it was free and Jesus was filling my waffles I still love the food that hasn't changed. The portion sizes could be bigger for the price still but I don't mind supporting local businesses. The social media ordering is the only way to order food now I believe and it seems that it's working out better This is a great vegan restaurant. I love their food, but the portions sizes and prices are a little less reasonable than I'd like but it's enough for the most part. The only thing that makes me give them three stars is the customer service. They have ig pick-up ordering and it's pretty much an unneeded hassle. (You place an order by commenting on the post.) I waited 40 mins to get a confirmation and another time I submitted my order a good hour and half before closing and it never went through (no one got back to me) Also they deleted my order/comment so it's no proof that I ordered unless I screenshot it. (Which I didn't) Also that was a shady thing to do & that's why I'm even writing this review. (They should have gave me an explanation rather than make it seem like nothing happened/I didn't place an order. Because that's good customer service.I was really rooting for this restaurant especially since it's vegan. They just need to work on the social media ordering process or just use another service like Uber eats, Grubhub, or right through the yelp app because Instagram is not the best place to order food from it seems. I'll give another review soon because I still love their food so hopefully all goes well. My advice is definitely try it out. I read previous reviews and didn't let that that cloud my judgement when trying this place. Now that I've had this situation I will be more conscious when ordering. The staff was kind and helpful but IG ordering is a no for me hopefully that changes in the next few weeks because I will be updating my review to give a complete and honest review. I don't know who else is back in the kitchen with the owner (if anyone), but everything I get here is amazing to eat. It's rare and special to find food that's healthy that you crave more than a burger and fries but I discover something new and delicious each time. First it was the waffles, then the "sausages," and most recently a smoothie that was truly unlike any strawberry smoothie I've tasted. They have a bunch of different options to choose from, smoothies are good and they have different juices that have benefits for your body and for cleansing or detoxifying your body. There are no descriptions of the menu items-just a picture on the screen but staff is available to assist you with questions/concerns and very friendly. I couldn't say enough positive things about this place! I came in ten minutes before they were closing, but was still greeted and walked through the ordering process (as it was my first time there and I didn't realize you had to order through the iPad stations) and found the man working extremely helpful and friendly. I ordered the black bean burger with the sweet potato "bun" instead of bread and it was amazing. So happy there's a place where I can find vegan options near me instead of trekking all the way to the west side or downtown, and i can't wait to try other things on the menu. THE WORSE EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE The customer service was SOOO BAD that I did not get a chance to try the food. I had to get my money back. I will not support this black business. 1st -when you enter there is no one at the front, one would have to go to the back to get some help. 2nd- they don't have a menu you have to look at these tiny picture on Ipad to order food. And the I pad don't have description on what in the food. I was told to go to instagram to see what is in the food. Well, some people don't have instagram. 3rd-TOO EXPENSIVE. NOT SURE IF IT WORTH IT. The other staff member come out and I asked him for my money back ($31) because am supporting and spending good money on black business and she get nasty at me because I just ask for a cup. I ordered a SALAD on IG and requested the pick up for 30 minutes because that was what I was told the last time I placed an ordered. I was told by my friend 15 minutes later that it now takes 45 minutes. Because my lunch is only an hour I was unable to get away and my nurse went to pick it up during her lunch. Keep in mind EVERY time I order food it's never done on time and I am always waiting. When she arrived they said they threw away my salad and demanded that she pay $16. They Stated they don't have warmers and discard food if people are late. That's a ridiculous lie because it is a SALAD which can easily be put in a refrigerator or sold. They also stated I was being put on a no show list and demand she pay for my salad again. I will not pay you for the salad you "threw away" and refused to give me. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant!! They are extremely difficult and expect you to know their "Rules" they change every day!! They are rude and have terrible customer service!! I WAS a long time customer of this business- was. Despite the convoluted ordering system on Instagram. Today was my last day EVER stopping at this business. In short, from the 2 months I had last frequented the business they changed their ordering process and became a "members only" business. Despite not seeing this publicized anywhere, and unbeknownst to me I stop in and see there are people inside. I was greeted with a " CLOSE THE DOOR!!" Not a hi! welcome! She(owner) instructed a customer to shut the door on me and yelled this is a members only business. here's the problem: 1. How did you know I was NOT a member? 2. How do you gain new members if you proceed to greet them with a "close the door! did she not hear me?Close the door! She's letting my heat out!". Despite the menu and good food - I would NOT recommend the hassle of trying to learn how to become a "member" of a business where an owner treats potential customers this way. read more

UNBELIEVABLE!!! BUYER BEWARE! I have patronized this place several time and I just can't do it again! I have had more than one bad experience. Time #1: Walk in (no one at counter, no employee in the cafe area) another customer helps by guiding me towards the ipads you order on. Eventually, guy comes out of the back, doesn't ask if I need help, instead, he talks to me as if i should know what to do....HOW?? There is not 1 menu in sight in this ENTIRE place! He walks me through SEVEN, yes SEVEN pages of food options on a tiny ipad screen, now I'm a college grad but it was still complicated. Time #2: Come in, no one is in cafe area yet again, guy comes out about 5-7 minutes later, I'm standing at ipad (because I remembered that part from last time at least) but I have a question on a dish I want to order and he gets very agitated at my questions. I finally get it ordered but I forgot about the ticket you have to leave in the basket (because there's no sign to tell you to do so) so I literally an waiting 15-20 minutes before he comes back out and I ask how much longer for him only to say, "well did you leave your ticket in the basket?" ummm no I didn't, and he say's "well your order isn't placed until the ticket is in the basket"!! You have got to be kidding me!!!! How would someone know this if there is no sign to tell you this! He makes a couple of smart comments and goes back into the back. Time #3...Final Straw (Keep in mind, I kept coming back because the food is actually good) but the ordering process, lack of direction and TERRIBLE customer service is UNBELIEVABLE. Heard from a friend that you can't stop in and order food anymore (huh?) you have to order on instagram ahead of time and put the time you want to pick it up, I had no idea you had to wait for them to tell you your order has been confirmed. So, I get there at the time I put on IG and wait, and wait and wait...finally the same dude comes out the back asks, my name and says well did you get a response telling you it was confirmed? Ummm No, once again how would I know that? I seriously just can't with this place. I have witnessed them not only be rude to me but to others and its all due to their lack of proper communication, signage, understaffing and poor customer service. I don't understand why we accept this type of behavior just to say we are supporting black business...politeness is colorless and it's FREE! They are ruining a great concept with this overly complicated process! Hire some good staffing for god sakes before these doors are soon closed. Visited Market Eatery twice and the vegan burgers are really good! Ingredients taste really fresh, so this makes the rest of my experience bittersweet. Only one complaint about the food, the price tag on a side of fries is ridiculous for the small portion of fries you receive. First time I called in, I was asking about items on their website (the vegan patty melt and the carrot mushroom burger) and the lady I spoke with told me not so politely that I had an old menu. I told her that was on their website. No biggie, but kinda rude. I tried to place an order over the phone and I was told I needed to go onto their Instagram page and place an order in the comments section of a photo and wait for a confirmation. Strange concept. Then when you go in, you have to enter your order (that you already placed on IG) into a kiosk which looks cool, but not very easy to navigate. My biggest gripe about my experiences here is that they are not very reliable with their means of communication. On two occasions, I had questions regarding items on the menu, I called the store and no answer, then I went on IG commenting asking questions and no response. My first and last time walking into market eatery was horrible, I didn't know how it worked so a gentelman that worked there gave me the run down on how to go about ordering which was fine.. So i proceeded to leave while looking at the Instagram and it only said "Drive through" i only work on the other side of the plaza where Market eatery is located and when i asked the owner about additional "Pick up options" because they were not on the Instagram she was very rude saying "Omg you're killing me, listen we're a one of a kind instagram restaurant. All you have to do is read the directions" i tried to explain to her that i couldn't find an pick up options other than drive through and before i could finish my sentence she told me she was not going to repeat herself and closed the window and walked away. I don't have an opinion about the food because I wasn't able to order. I places an Order on IG as instructed. The order was placed at 12:20 and requested to pick up at 12:45. I didn't receive a confirmation so when I arrived, I asked if they had received my order, the guy asked my screen name, he confirmed my order but told me that I since I didn't give them 30 minutes, they didn't acknowledge or make my food. No one ever commented that they needed extra time or anything. They then told me that I would be placed at the end of the line and I would need to wait an additional 30 minutes for food. I hear so many good things about the food but my first experience/impression was awful. I can't support insufficient customer services such as this. I will not refer anyone to this place and will forever tell people about my negative experience. My money will spend just the same at a place with common ordering practices and good customer service. My time is valuable and I don't appreciate the disregard for my time by not responding or at least trying to accommodate after I had already arrived. I would have appreciated a response that would given me an option to wait an additional few minutes or cancel the order completely. I will not patronize a place where I am ignored! read more

I ordered from here for the first time last Saturday. I wanted to go in an order, instead of ordering from Instagram. I placed my order and waited for 1 hour for my food/smoothie. Really, one hour. I over heard the gentleman tell another customer, the wait time for walk in orders is 45 minutes. Another customer who had been waiting as long as I have, received her order before me and she placed her order after me. I asked to speak to the manager. She did not come out, she sent a gentleman to help me. He told me the Instagram orders are priority. I explained to him that I had been waiting for one hour. He continued to explain to me the orders are made fresh to order, and the Instagram orders take priority. I told him I saw one person who came in and got their order which was placed on Instagram. At that point I was so upset, I forgot there were actually three customers who came in to pick up their Instagram orders. I asked him if he could reimburse me for the fruit cup I paid for, or give me a coupon for a free smoothie. His response was, "is getting a free smoothie the deciding factor of whether if you will come back" I told him yes, that is my deciding factor. He told me thanks for coming. I was so out done that that point. I walked out. When I left, there were eleven customers waiting for their orders!!!. I will NEVER come back to this establishment. I agree with the review stated earlier that I love the concept of this place and some of the food. It is a bit pricey for the amount of food you get. But the biggest complaint is the way to order. Over IG! Although innovative, it's also annoying. What if I don't have an IG account? And who wants to keep checking their account to see if their order went through? And why place an order online just to come into the restaurant to have to place the order again on a confusing little kiosk machine? Everett, (not sure if he is part owner or employee) is nice enough, but has an impatient edge. I think he's tired of explaining items on the menu and how to use the register to order and pay for your food. Which is a sign that things may need to change. A better explained menu of the items would be a big help. Just having a picture without the ingredients and what the item is made of is a little stressing. One word of caution, if you don't order ahead of time, you will be waiting a long time for your food. With these few glitches, I still will suggest you give the place a try.
