The major problem is too much batter & way over cooked. To me the batter should be not too much and cooked to a dark yellow / very light brown at most. Mother Hubbards fish is invariably a dark brown and very crunchy. I still eat there when I have to because there's nothing much better in the area.

The building has its origins in the 16th century and according to local repute, William Tyndale (he of Bible translation fame) lived there for a while.
