There is no price tag that can repay him for helping me transform from sad and feeling hopeless in a challenging long-term marriage to now being happy, strong, energetic, goal-oriented, and enthusiastic about life. I am my "old self" once again. That is priceless. I am of Hispanic-American ethnicity, and seeking therapy is a cultural "taboo" in my family. Yet, after over 22 years in a very difficult marriage and extreme unhappiness I knew that I needed professional help that could help me get clarity. It was with trepidation that I entered his office, and I immediately realized that Dr. Monkarsh was professional, an excellent listener, genuine, compassionate and yet straight-forward in a gentle manner. He asked me open-ended questions, without judgment, that made me think of my situation and how I could solve challenges. Because I am a task-oriented individual, he gave me weekly assignments and we picked up from there each session. It was not easy to do the soul-searching and face hard areas of my life, but he never gave up on me and he genuinely cared. He was a non-biased clinical psychologist who was honest with me, even when it was difficult. He was the confidential professional that I needed to help me transform my life. I felt safe, respected and not alone. Dr. Monkarsh is now working with my 23-year old daughter and he is helping her with the same care and professionalism he offered me as his past patient. As a mom, I am extremely grateful for the help he is providing her and I feel relieved and at peace that my daughter is receiving his services. My daughter and I do not discuss their sessions and I respect her privacy, yet I see the positive changes in her life through her work with Dr. Monkarsh as well. I am fortunate to have been Dr. Monkarsh's patient. My only regret is that I had not worked with him decades before.

I had called over ten Vancouver and Portland-based counseling offices, and was so impressed with the response I received from Adventure Psychological Services. Both Genevieve and Dr. Neeley at Adventure Psychological Services have gone above and beyond to assist me throughout the process of starting therapy, and have made everything as stress free as possible. He also helped us a lot with "family of orgin" which is what would cause us to feel disconnected from each other during certain times/situations when really it turned out to be miscommunication/interpration of things said/done based on what our home life was like growing up. If I could give this place a zero star I would…read more I paid $1425 a few days before my first appointment. Weeks before my appointment Erin, kept telling me to send money or else they wouldn't be able to help our family for three more months. (That should have been my first red flag). The fact that they needed money and right away BEFORE services were rendered? (I'm pretty sure we were their only clients at the time) I live a few blocks away and their parking lot is always empty. They totally lied when they said they wouldn't be able to get us in for another three months. Don't trust anything they say. Emails came in for weeks day and night. Sometimes at 9, 10 and 11pm. Litterly bothering me about money every day. That should have been another red flag. During my first appointment, my mom came with me. We sat down and Michael asked if we would like to know some information about himself before we got started. We agreed. We didn't want to be rude but as his story took 30 minutes of our hour long session I felt like we didn't get anywhere and at the same time I paid $80 dollars to hear his life story? After my second session I was handed a piece of paper that showed I owed $600 dollars. Wait, WHAT!?? I sent three emails to their office requesting to be put on a payment plan and I was denied. I explained my situation many times. I take care of my Mom, she just had a stroke two years ago and is fully retired. I have a lot of responsibilities and at the end of the month we go without in order to servive (I think a lot of people understand) My third email in regards to a payment plan stated "I would like to arrange a payment plan in order to move forward so I can continue to have a relationship with my daughter" Company did not respond. I asked if there were any organizations or companies that helps families pay for reunification and this was my response from these people..... "Not once did you ask for a payment plan or even make a payment". I then forwarded the four separate emails to Erin. No response. Do they even check their emails? In one month I was charged over $300 dollars for "phone calls and emails" I have paid $1425 for two visits and not to forget, the father of my child is also paying his portion as well. This company has already received more than $3000 dollars from us and they keep asking for more. I sent Michael an email asking about his prices and he sends me an entire full page email. At the top states "this email will take me apx 30 minutes to write so your looking at half of $190". They state they are affiliated with The BBB on their website. However, if you look them up they have a 1 star and they are NOT affiliated with The BBB. False advertisement I asked my daughter what she thought about her reunification counselor and she said that she doesn't feel comfortable talking to Michael and the few times she was in his office crying he said "wipe your tears and stop crying and be a big girl" (my daughter was 10 years old at that time) How is it possible that this evil counselor can even practice around children when they are clearly making things worse. After hearing all of these disturbing, and disgusting things from my daughter it was a very easy decision to make. We are never going back to that place. Cutting ties with this unorganized, rude, finger pointing, unprofessional, everything is your fault, makes up lies, accuses you for a reaction, scatter brained, can't remember names, can't remember dates, can't remember where documents are, gets off topic, can't remember where he left off, sends unwanted emails and then charges you for them, sends emails late at night 9pm, 10pm and 11pm and also cuts appointments short but still charges for the full amount. I have never felt so unheard in my life. My daughter will not even step foot in their office. They are rude and demanding. Very disrespectful, they will talk over you, they think they are better than anyone else. If you are reading this, RUN!!!!!

As part of an ongoing custody dispute between my wife and her ex, he continually threw anything and…read moreeverything he possibly could at us, to see what would stick, as well as try to exhaust us mentally, emotionally and financially. One of these tactics was to request a wholly unnecessary psychological evaluation of the child in question, despite there being no motivation or evidence that there was a need for such a thing. But that's the thing about narcissists: it's not about anyone else but themselves, even for their own children. A talented psychologist should be able to spot such manipulative and self-serving behavior on their own, but *especially* when evidence is provided to them of previous incidents, some of them quite damning, and all of them documented. Lies, slander, subterfuge, all of it on paper, and presented during preliminary interviews. Unfortunately, context and evidence apparently doesn't seem to matter here, and Dr. Jeff Lee has all of the personality and deductive reasoning of a flowchart. After a series of interviews with both parents, our son (my step son), and myself, and several thousand unnecessarily spent dollars later, the final determination in the report is that both households are healthy, safe and loving, finding neither of them in favor of the other. Sounds great, right? At the very least, not terrible. Here's the rub: despite our son being wholly in the custody of his mother for the five years since his birth; despite the fact that she has 90% of visitation time; despite the fact that he has two half-brothers that he has lived with his entire life; and despite the fact that *I* have spent more time as a father figure to him than his birth father, this "neutral" determination came with a recommendation for 50/50 custody, because... ...get this... ...his father's school district is rated slightly higher than ours. So Dr. Lee recommends that our son's entire life be uprooted, gutted and turned on its head, despite him being healthy, happy and functioning, within a complete family unit? In what way is this good for the health and well-being of a developing child? Not only was all the evidence of his birth father's conniving and manipulation ignored wholesale, he failed in every possible way, to do the very minimum, and using his intellect, training and reasoning to comprehend that maybe, *just maybe*, if nothing is broke in the child's life, stop trying to fix it. Show your work. Prove that something needs to be changed *for the child*, not the manipulative narcissist who just wants to get his way. Instead, Dr. Lee simply checked the boxes, followed the outline, and produced the most feeble, milquetoast, ineffectual report imaginable. And this is not an isolated incident; our attorney has discovered that, on at least one other occasion, Dr. Lee's reports have been challenged and thrown out of court; an expensive endeavor, but something we may consider going forward with in the future. If you want someone to root out the truth, and provide honest evaluation with a learned and critical eye that prioritizes the well-being of children involved in custody disputes, look elsewhere.
