I switched dentists a few years ago to Dr. Langberg and his practice and am very pleased with the care I've received there. They address me by name when I walk in, and I usually have the same hygienist, too (Catherine), who remembers previous conversations that we have had. I cannot rave enough about Dr. Langberg. He has demonstrated expertise, patience, and talent. The other evening I cracked a crown in the front of my mouth. I called his office , it was 6:45 pm. wanting to leave an emergency call. Dr. Langberg answered the phone and said "come on over" and off I went. I was a patient of Mark Langberg's ~25 years ago. I'm coming back to write this review because of a recent issue I am having in relation to his care. I had a very small chip in one my two front teeth. I probably did not need to be addressed in any way, or it could have been easily bonded. While getting a cavity filled I simply asked Dr Langberg, "What can be done about this chip in my tooth?" Rather than affording me the respect of answering my question with his words, Dr Langberg picked up his drill and shortened my front tooth. I was so shocked at the time I was speechless. I felt totally violated. Now, 25 years later, this front teeth is still shorter than the other one. Recently the shorter tooth has developed a recessed groove that is rough and uncomfortable when my tongue runs accross it. My current dentist said that it happened because of a lack of enamel. Well, I have Dr. Langberg to thank for grinding away that enamel. My option today is to fill it like a cavity, but it's a narrow tooth so I'm reluctand to have more drilling into occur unless it's absolutely necessary. Because of my bite pattern, my current dentist says there is no way he can extend the tooth back to it's original length. Changing the shape of someone's teeth can be a very big deal for how it affects the bite overall. I wish Dr Langberg was not so arogant to assume I wanted my tooth ground down without even asking me if he could do it. It was just a spur of the moment thing for him, and he has probably never given it a second thought, but I am still living with the consequences. He also sold my entire family prescription strength toothpaste for many years. There is no evidence that floride levels higher than what's found in regular toothpaste is helpful. However, at high levels floride can be a neurotoxin and it is best to not expose yourself to it twice every day. Perhaps the research was not yet in at the time, but hopefully he is no longer pedaling this stuff. read more

I "inherited" Dr. Langberg as my Dentist by marriage and moving to a new city. He's been my wife's family dentist for years. The office staff and hygienist are as friendly and competent as my previous Dentist. Dr. Langberg is easy to talk to and explains clearly what he sees and expects to see and/or do. He makes suggestions and recommendations and is clear on what needs to be done versus what's simply recommendation. He also takes the time to explain why he's making those recommendations. If there's a need for work done within a specific timeframe he explains why. Their scheduling is very accommodating to my needs. My only regret is that I didn't find Dr. Langberg sooner. He and his staff are professional, compassionate, and knowledgeable. I went to Dr. Langberg after my former dentist was unable to resolve prolonged tooth pain I had been experiencing for months. Dr. Langberg asked me a series of questions, ran some tests, and was quickly able to determine which tooth was affected and why I was experiencing pain. I had a semi-urgent need for a dentist when an old filling fell out and the tooth cracked. Dr. Langberg was able to see me the same day I phoned for an appointment. The dentist I'd seen for 20+ years retired 8 years ago, and sadly I hadn't had my teeth attended to during that time (my old dentist was familiar and patient with all my various dental chair fears). Over the course of 3 appointments Dr. L treated the broken tooth (by extracting it and having me sit through a video presentation on dental implants) along with giving me a much-needed thorough cleaning and a full set of X-rays. PROS: The office setting was relaxing and the actual extraction was absolutely painless. The staff was very cordial, and Dr. L was patient and took time to explain every procedure. CONS: I had the same technician at each of my 3 appointments, and no matter how many times I corrected her (and she was constantly referencing my chart with my name right at the top), she still *continually* addressed me by the wrong first name. What stands out about my 3rd appointment - the one after I'd had the thorough cleaning and X-rays taken - was that Dr. L began the consultation by looking at my file and announcing, "We're going to max out your insurance." I had told him at appointment #2 that I wasn't particularly interested in a dental implant to replace my extracted tooth, as it was behind my canine and not visible when I spoke or smiled. I was more concerned with simply getting any existing cavities filled. Despite that, during appointment #3 he *never* mentioned which teeth if any had cavities. Instead he told me that virtually all of my existing fillings needed to be replaced, and then returned to the subject of the dental implant. (Granted, all of my fillings *are* very old, but I was interested in first filling any new cavities. But he never mentioned whether or not my X-rays showed any cavities.) After visits #2 and #3, I received several email messages and two voice mail messages reminding me that my jaw bone was shrinking daily and time was of the essence to come in and get that tooth implant (at a price tag of over $4,000 that was not covered by my insurance). Lastly, apparently it's part of his overall procedure to take Polaroid "before" photos of his patients and then "after" shots. I can understand that perhaps this benefits him (as a marketing tool) when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, but in my opinion such photos should be optional and up to the individual patient. They don't play any helpful forensic role in basic dental treatment (i.e. filling cavities). Yet although I protested verbally **four** times while he was readying the camera, he still took pictures. (Short of leaping out of the chair, I had no way of stopping him.) Not surprisingly, the resulting pictures were not me at my most photogenic, and the staff actually LAUGHED at the shots right in front of me as they reviewed them!! I was never asked to sign any sort of release, I'd not given permission to be photographed, and I just pray that some day they won't show up on the Internet as some sort of goofy meme. In summary, I can't complain about Dr. L's actual treatment of my immediate dental problem. He was painless and comforting, so if you've got a dental emergency or a fear of drills, etc, I think you'll be pleased with his work. It's the up-selling of products and procedures along with the disregard of my non-photo request that influenced my decision not to return. read more

New to the metro Detroit area, I was referred to Dr. Langberg by a neighbor. I was pleased to find Dr. Langberg's staff to be immediately welcoming and warm. They seemed to go the extra mile to make my hygiene appointment a pleasurable experience, with little bonuses like a foot massage machine in the waiting room, and individual televisions in each room. I also enjoyed the text message and email reminder option for upcoming appointments. I found the staff to be competent and professional and Dr. Langberg to be very thorough in his work. He and his staff worked with me to find the treatment plan that worked for me. Overall an excellent dental experience.
