As a parent, it's frustrating to feel talked down to when simply trying to support my child. Front office staff set the tone for the entire school, and this kind of communication reflects poorly on the environment. I strongly urge management to address this behavior and speak with her about maintaining a more respectful and professional tone when dealing with parents. A simple shift in attitude would make a big difference. That said, the rest of the staff and teachers at the school have been wonderful--kind, supportive, and genuinely invested in the students. Our experiences with them have been consistently positive, which makes this contrast even more noticeable.

There's one Charter school on LaBrea that has really good test scores; however, St. Eugene is better organized and the children are happier. I also believe that if catholic schools were evaluated my the same tests as public/charter schools, then St. Eugene would win. I speak to my son's teacher daily and I couldn't have survived this school year without Mrs. Robles and Mrs. Valencia. Mrs. Robles is such an amazing teacher that I wish I could clone her. I'm looking forward to beginning the next school year with the 2nd grade teacher. She's not only warm and approachable but also incredibly knowledgeable -- exactly the person you want greeting families and representing the heart of the district. I also have to rave about Susie Flores -- she is the definition of hardworking and dependable! Sweet as can be, and you can tell she genuinely cares about delivering results and making sure things are running smoothly behind the scenes. And let's not forget Stephanie, who made my experience even better by quickly expediting my daughter's application -- which is what first brought me to the office. Thanks to her, everything was handled seamlessly and efficiently. As a substitute I have been helped and guided in my questions, assignments and each school is prepared to ensure I am able to teach classes I am assigned. Unfortunately no unions exist for substitute teachers. If you decide to teach make sure it's at a district that pays what your worth. You should acquire a large pay increase after your masters in education not only $1,200 for all your work, trauma, pain, struggle and tears.
