While no one wants to take their pet to the emergency vet, sometimes you have no choice…read more Unfortunately, that is what happened to us this past Thursday. Our dog suddenly went limp, labored breathing and white gums. We tried to take her to West Park, and they turned us away because they were at capacity. We didn't realize that MedVet was 5 min further away, but we were directed there. We called while we were on our way, and they were waiting for us when we arrived. She was rushed back, where they did an initial exam and got her stable. It was very helpful to have the monitors up to show where our pet was in the line of order to be seen. While we're waiting, a few more critical patients came in, and the staff was so on top of it. It turns out our girl suffered anaphylactic shock from something, perhaps a bug bite. She ended up staying two nights, and we visited her each day for about an hour. The staff was so incredible, I don't think I could ever work in an environment. As expected, it was pricier, but the staff went above and beyond for us. We never worried about Luna while she was in their care. On the second day, the doctor called me and spent 20 min walking through her chart, results and next steps with me. I really appreciated it. Hopefully we will never need to go back, but if we do, we know where to go.

The parking lot has ample space, and its handicap--accessible. The restrooms are also clean. The nature of emergency medicine is unpredictable so yes our wait time was long and it was more expensive than a routine vet visit, but that's just the way it is. The entire staff was very pleasant and Special callout to Dr. Gabrielle DeVere who took plenty of time with me and answered my questions. Also shout out to Lori (Laurie?) who answered the phone and treated me with respect and kindness. I also heard her interact with other clients on the phone and she was remarkably professional, empathetic and helpful.

They were able to take a new patient fairly quickly, and while Kora recognized the "vet office smell" she was pretty chill during the appointment. They don't take the animal out of the room or out of your sight at all, the vet took his time getting to know her, and he talked to me quite a while. They're pretty easy about prescriptions, and everyone was super friendly. I will say, it can be hard to actually get someone on the phone - they don't seem to have enough staff in reception to answer the phones, and the call back time has been ~3 days each time I've tried. As long as you don't need something urgently, it's not too bad.

We ended up shifting to Dr. Madden due to the addition of a pet who prefers women and have seen Dr. Garcia for urgent visits. Everyone there treats our pups like family, but especially Dr. Madden who is so incredibly patient with their nerves and antics (and my seemingly endless questions and details). Over the years they've adapted to a more casual, playful and food/reward based appointment style and it's made all of the difference in my anxious dogs' experiences. I feel confident that my boys are in safe hands that treat them as they would their own pets. It's such a relief to have providers you trust for your health, but it's even more impactful to have that confidence and care for those you love most.
