My two dogs have been patients at Metropet for over 5 years, and the service and care has fallen off a cliff for the past 2 years. It honestly feels like a comedy of errors. I take my dog for an arthritis injection and they are out of stock of the medication, even though my appointment has been on the books for a month. No one bothered to call me ahead of time. I took off work for this appointment! My other dog is on a prescription pill and they refused to refill the prescription even though he had an annual checkup a month prior. So I had to bring him in for bloodwork and of course they couldn't draw blood because he's a tiny nervous dog. Another failed appointment that I missed work for. If you are looking for a reliable vet, do not choose Metropet in Berea. read more

Don't recommend this place. They had my dog with prior seizure activity (that they were aware of) on a monthly prevention labeled with a giant "Do not use for dogs with prior seizure activity" warning. When I discovered this myself on Chewy.com, I brought it up and requested a different monthly preventative. It was clearly a problem that I questioned. The Vet encouraged me to continue my dog on the seizure-warning preventative but advised adding a seizure control medication on top of it... One we paid her practice for every month, of course. You can also expect a 45 minute to an hour wait/appointment time at this place, regardless of what the appointment is for. It is, without a doubt, the slowest service at a vet I've ever experienced-- and I've had dogs all my life. Additionally, they only let people inside who show proof of COVID vaccination.. just in case you're not vaccinated and would like to know that. The two stars is because they did do a great job on my dog's spay and hernia surgery. You can hardly even tell there was a long incision made, so that's noteworthy. After all of this, I switched Veterinarians, wait no longer than 2 minutes for an appointment, and was presented alternative monthly preventative options without seizure warning labels for consideration. My dog has been a patient at this veterinary clinic since we brought him home two years ago. The staff is great and have been quite helpful in diagnosing a skin condition which I had not noticed. They have a nice online portal to communicate and request medicines , and an auto ship program for maintenance meds for flea and tick etc. Due to Covid they come out to your car to pick up and drop off your pets. read more

Did not have a good experience with my dog. Vet techs were great but the vets were not good. They could not get a blood draw from my dog and poked him over 4 times. He is an anxious job and the vets demeanor did not help to calm him. Unfortunately, I would not recommend. read more

Had a appointment to have my dog fixed,they told me to drop her off at 8 which is also the time they open,but I guess apparently not when the vet gets in because I dropped my already scared dog off and took off work for 3 days to care for her after and they called me a HOUR later to come pick my dog up that the vet won't be in today. Sooo your telling me the vet is so unprofessional that they didn't call off of work at least a hour before instead a hour later??? And if I were to cancel I'd be charged a cancelation fee but they can do it? I will not be returning with my dog and I will be telling all my friends and family about this experience. Honesty a horrible experience. i was the first appointment of the day and somehow still had to wait 30minutes for my appointment and was there an hour and a half total. Told me to feed my large dog once a day.... Refused to see my special needs dog unless he was sedated (which he saw an out of state vet for 6 years without ever doing that)... gave me an estimate and upcharged on things I never said I needed.... Would never recommend this clinic especially for my rabbit after the botched spay performed by the "new" vet today. The "new" vet was never disclosed to be performing surgery on my daughters rabbit and they kept the rabbit under anesthesia for 2 hours. Most of the staff at Metropet are friendly and kind. They always give me a detailed estimate with "low end" and "high end," noting which items are strongly recommended and which are more optional. While I greatly appreciate this consideration for us on tight budgets, the fact remains that their prices are higher than most I've seen. I also had one very unpleasant interaction with a tech who essentially bullied me into getting a rabies shot for my cat. Now, I fully understand that the shot is required legally, and that it was her job to make this clear to me. I was planning on getting the shot anyway. But the tech absolutely did not need to stare me down and tell me "if you don't get this shot, and your cat bites me, he will be taken away, killed, and have his head chopped off for analysis." First of all, this is really only half true. But more importantly it's just a totally inappropriate way to talk to a customer and worried pet owner. Bedside manner has a place at vet clinics, too, and this tech had absolutely none. Again, every other staff member is great. But this one tech left an awful taste in my mouth and I likely won't be back because of her. Oh, and I tried to redeem the $20 off deal listed at the top of the Yelp page but the person who prepared my bill said she didn't know what I was talking about and wouldn't take the discount. read more

I have been to several vets in Ohio, and Dr. Mary Ann Tima blows them all out of the water. If you're looking for a new vet, I cannot recommend her highly enough. I take a lot of time to research my pets' conditions and treatment options and I have been dissatisfied with my previous vets' level of experience, expertise and willingness to communicate. For reference, I've treated a cat with chronic kidney disease here and am treating a senior cat with diabetes and another senior cat with a heart murmur/potential heart condition. Dr. Tima has been practicing for many years and has the broad depth of experience and knowledge that not every vet has. She will communicate in detail the signs and symptoms she's concerned about, explain any health conditions in depth and provide you with all your treatment options (and their advantages and disadvantages). She's not only a great vet in technical skill and practice, but she's also extraordinarily dedicated to her patients. She has repeatedly given me personal calls after regular hospital hours to follow up on an earlier appointment or explain test results. She truly goes above and beyond the call of duty. Other additional perks - Not only is Dr. Tima an excellent traditionally trained vet (OSU Vet School, which is one of the top 5 vet schools in the country), but Dr. Tima also has experience with accupuncture and other more holistic remedies. When you're dealing with pets who are in chronic pain and/or traditional medications with side effects aren't working well, these are great options to have that other vets cannot offer. Also, MetroPet utilizes PetAssure which should provide 25% off services that are performed in-house. I've had to come to MetroPet quite frequently the past few weeks because I was treating an end stage renal failure cat and there were times when the staff has dropped a message or miscommunicated things. When that has happened, Dr. Tima has always responded promptly and addressed all my concerns. They have staff meetings where they make sure to re-train and address any issues in policy or procedure. Lastly, when it came time to put my cat to sleep, Dr. Tima rearranged her schedule and went out of her typical radius to come to my home to euthanize my cat (also on short notice). During that difficult time, it was comforting to have a compassionate vet we've routinely been seeing help us through this last stage. She was kind, empathetic and made sure everything went smoothly and peacefully. You won't make a mistake by making her your regular vet. read more

I brought my dog (now deceased) here on my boyfriend's recommendation. He was a mild mannered dog who turned into a raging beast when taken to the vet's. He actually was fine at Metropet, mostly because they didn't put him up on the table, and they all talked baby-talk to him, which I found nauseating, but hey, whatever works. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, but that's about the best I can say. I feel that they are overpriced, and too anxious to send tests and x-rays for a second opinion from an outside lab. It doesn't create a feeling of confidence in your vet when they frequently don't trust their own results. I spent a lot of money on tests, x-rays, and medications without ever finding out what was wrong with my dog. They prescribed medications that made him urinate frequently, which doesn't make sense when there are two working adults in the household. I guess the turning point for us was with our most recent dog. I brought her there for something else, and she cut her foot getting out of my car when we got there. We probably paid as much for the cut on her foot as we did for the rest of it. We had to bring her back three times to have it checked and rewrapped, twice because the bandage was wrapped improperly, and we were still charged $19.71 each time, plus extra for examinations if it was a vet instead of a tech. Maybe it's just me, but you'd think that they would have done it for free, since it was their mistake. We also had previously brought her in to have her teeth cleaned, and while there, inquired about having her dew claws removed. They did a blood clotting test on her ($50), and advised us not to have it done. Then they presented us with an estimate for teeth cleaning, which included amounts for two or three extractions, like they already planned to pull some teeth. We asked a few questions about that, and were then sent on our way, so she never did get her teeth cleaned, even though that's what we brought her in for in the first place. Interestingly enough, since then we changed vets and had her teeth cleaned, without any extractions! read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! UPDATE, I did receive a call from Dr. Toriello. She was very understanding and receptive to my concerns. She was never made aware that I wanted her specifically to perform the surgery. Metropet will be reviewing procedures for surgical consent/discharge so that this doesn't happen again. To start, I am a healthcare professional. I researched local exotic veterinarians to find a qualified provider to spay my 9 month old female rabbit. Spaying a rabbit is a high risk surgery, as they do not do well under anesthesia. I found Dr. Alice Toriello and was reassured that she was exotic animal certified and had done hundreds to rabbits spays/neutering. I consented to have Dr. Toriello perform the procedure. On the day of surgery, I dropped my rabbit off at 8:20am. I received a text message at 11:13am telling me that my rabbit was in surgery. I then received a phone call at 1:05pm saying that my rabbit was out of surgery and doing well. No complications. I was concerned that my rabbit had been in surgery and under anesthesia for almost 2 hours. This procedure should take at most 30-45 minutes without complications. I was told my rabbit would be ready for pick up at 3pm (only 2 hours of observation for a 2 hour procedure?!) I picked her up at 3pm and was handed an essentially unresponsive rabbit. I was told my the vet tech who brought her out to the car for me that " this was normal, she was under anesthesia a longer amount of time because a brand new vet they were training performed the surgery." "But, not to worry Dr. Toriello was in the room with them. Your rabbit will probably be like this the rest of the night." Not 40 mins after bringing her home she was dead. I never consented to have a high risk surgery performed by a brand new vet! It was careless to allow a brand new vet to take 2 hours to spay my rabbit. Leaving her under anesthesia for an unnecessary amount of time in order to train a new vet! They risked her life to allow a new brand vet to "try" a surgery. This risk, cost my pet her life. This is a deceitful and reckless medicine practice. Shame on Metropet for allowing this sort "accident" to happen. Save yourself the heartache and take your beloved pet anywhere else. read more

We went there for cold laser therapy for our pet after surgery- they only have 2 pairs of glasses; 1 for the tech, 1 for the dog. We went there because of convenience to home, as her surgeon and therapist was about 1 hr away. We were always in the room with her, all having glasses and knew what was going on. Here- not the case. We're not even sure she got the treatments- @ almost 50.00 per session, 2 times a week. We also have another dog with tumors. They said they would take samples and tell us about them. $600 dollars later they wanted to do more testing and send it out for a second look. They couldn't tell us anything....very disappointing and upsetting. It seems that they are working on a shoestring- some equipment not working; the lack of laser glasses etc. When I cancelled further laser sessions, the receptionist asked why, I told her, she said she would talk with the office manager and have her call us. Still waiting for the call...2 months and still waiting. read more

She has helped create a regime of pills and diet for my dog with seizures and had an early stage of cancer plus just old age that kept her healthy for much longer than anticipated.I've never felt pressured to use unneeded medication or to put her down because she is high maintanance. I appreciate the education I get from the team about current medications or injections without the pressure of administering them. Our experience with MetroPet was outstanding. We were taken into an exam room as soon as I finished the paperwork. The vet tech came in and made sure we were comfortable. Even gave our dog a treat. Dr. Jones was very thorough in her exam and even had a bag of treats to give our dog to help keep him calm. She explained all our options and helped us make an informed decision. I took our guinea pig here after having him at 2 other vets, because I had been trying to find a vet who knows how to care for pocket pets (the first two had limited capabilities). Berea is about 40 minutes away from us. I asked them to please be sure they were giving me correct information in telling me they were able to care for pocket pets. They reassured me several times. My pig had scurvy due to upset intestinal flora which caused him to stop eating, thereby allowing his molars to become overgrown -- diagnosed by myself, but unfortunately, you need a "professional" to reaffirm what is already known. He had been given antibiotics and a med to take care of the stomach by the last vet. I treated the scurvy by hand-feeding him with added vitamin C. All he needed was his teeth fixed. I have since learned to cut the incisors myself, for the record, but obviously, I cannot do the molars. Dr. Alice whatever her name was, "examined" my pig (i.e., listened to his heart and squeezed his butt a bit), for $50. Unnecessary and a complete rip-off. She then quoted me a price of $300 for x-rays, anesthesia, and God knows what else. All completely unnecessary except for the x-ray which was completely over-priced. She couldn't even see his teeth, and said he needed to be sedated and kept over-night and they could do it all a once. Money, money, money. Never ONCE did she give me the impression that she knew what she was doing with a small animal. I griped that the price was too high for what I received, and she begrudgingly went and cut his lower incisors. I almost was afraid to let her do it because I was afraid she'd break his jaw or something. She managed to cut them -- albeit leaving about 1/4 inch of them left. Way to short for someone who is supposed to know what she's doing. I wouldn't recommend this woman to take care of a stray dog in an alley. She is entirely over-priced. $300+ for a $15 guinea pig? ** Forgot this little tidbit: The teeth were blackened on the ends, and on the molars from the little bit I could see. I now know this to be a side effect of scurvy, and the blackness will grow off with the tooth. She had never seen it before, which is understandable, so she posted on some message boards online and talked to some other vets. I get a message on my phone the following week that basically said nobody knew what it was, so it really wasn't anything to worry about. I'm sorry? And it wasn't even her on the phone, it was a man. read more

I was very excited about bringing my new puppy to the vet however when I arrived and got my appointment going I decided this wasn't the place for us. The staff and VET were all very nice, however I felt pushed to purchase expensive tests and excessive treatments for my puppy and I did not like that. I felt they just wanted to give him all of these medications and treatments (there was nothing that needed to be treated) for no reason! I am sorry to say we will not be returning. :( read more
