He was told it would be there on a Monday, and when my brother saw the Prosthetist on a Wednesday and asked where his prosthetic was, he was told it was an insurance thing, they hadn't received paperwork from the doctor. We immediately called the doctor's office, who informed us they sent it. I also personally handed in copies to the nurses desk at rehab, who in turn gave it to PT/OT. My brother was given a business card, which is useless, the email address no longer exists, if you call the number it goes to an answering service. It is impossible to speak with the Prosthetist, or Mark Goldberg himself. Now we see all the poor reviews, they do not follow through with the insurance company, they did not contact my brother to let him know if there were issues and now he's going home disappointed, without a prosthetic. Don't do business with them! Horrible!

Issue #2: What they charged for my knee brace is nothing less than price gouging. * $1,101.58 is the price on my bill. * On Amazon, the same exact brace, same brand (Breg), same features, was $169.99 as of the day I write this. A difference of $930? And that's without buying in bulk like an orthopedic supply business can. To be clear, and fair: I have ZERO issue paying for their services where they measured my leg and showed me how to adjust the brace. But that's not worth $930. I wasn't even there 30 minutes. I will be calling the office Monday and getting the incorrect item part addressed. The price gouging on the knee brace is ATROCIOUS and I am disgusted!

I am 64 years old. I was born without legs from just above the knees, , and have been in and out of…read moreprosthetics facilities since I was 18 months old. Over the years, I have seen very good - and very bad - prosthetists. Chris Kort and Prosthetics in Motion is, hands down, the best experience I've ever had. My journey to Chris started over 20 years ago, in a facility that I loved at the time. I was receiving excellent care - until I wasn't. That prosthetist is a superb limb-maker, but over years he and some of his staff became arrogant and the process, which needs to be collaborative to work - became a power play. Chris worked with this prosthetist, and takes a lot of the same positive approaches, but he has none of the arrogance. Nor does anyone else in the facility. Prosthetics in Motion provides excellent care without any drama. From the moment I first called Prosthetics in Motion -in crisis - I knew this place was different. The person who answered the phone was respectful and kind, and clearly educated in the the business. She immediately told me the person with whom I should be speaking, gave me the name of the practice manager and said Rebecca would call me back. I spoke to Rebecca that day and I immediately felt comfortable and willing to trust. She was knowledgeable in her intake and discussion of the facility and the process, and she gave me more than sufficient information, but she clearly also was an educated and effective listener. In the course of the first phone call with Rebecca, I felt hope that my several years of depression about my legs was lifting. The first consultation appointment was six weeks away, but when I stressed the urgency of my situation, she spoke to Chris and fit me into the schedule within 6 or 7 days. My initial appointment with Chris gave me extreme confidence that Prosthetics in Motion was the place for me to be. He is a smart, kind, talented professional. And the other prosthetists are, too. They work as a team, and it is evident that they really learn from each other, so even the less experienced folk are truly excellent. In between the arrogant guy and Chris, I used another prosthetist. He, also, is kind and smart and has no arrogance, but the facility simply did not have the depth of knowledge and experience with above-knee bilateral amputees that Prosthetics in Motion has. That experience and education, along with Prosthetics in Motion's deep vendor relationships, has once again made my life one that works really well and seamlessly with prostheses, rather than a life that is all about prosthetics and constantly filled with limitation. Finally, I cannot emphasize enough how pleasant it is to go the facility. It is airy and bright and filled with natural light. There are parallel bars and a full size ramp and stairs, as well as a treadmill and other machines and lots of room for walking. Last week, Chris spent almost an hour with me teaching me to walk down the ramp, something I have never been able to master in 25 years of using C-legs. I urge anyone who needs a prosthetist to interview the people at Prosthetics in Motion. I do not think you can find a better facility. -Eve M

After not walking for the past six years, Erik Schaffer had me up and walking within 2 hours of entering his facility. Thats's the short version for those of you that don't like to read :-) For the folks that want to I understand why I am such a strong supporter of a Step Ahead, here is more of the story. I was to arrive this morning - August 30, 2021, at 7:30 am. When I did, Erik Schaffer, the President, was waiting to greet me with an open door. Amy Palmiero-Winters, the Director of Operations, herself an amputee, (also recently named a Guinness World Record holder for being the fastest woman to run 100 miles on a treadmill) was there to hug me. Because, even though we never met, it felt as if we were somehow connected. It was like walking in and seeing an old friend. There were so many times over the past two years that I was ready to surrender to life in a wheelchair. I was done fighting. I had given up hope. But, every time I would get to that place, it seemed Amy somehow knew, and I would get a call or an email with an update letting me know that the battle was still going on, and they were determined to get me the leg I needed. There are no words to describe what today was like for me, and none of it would have been possible without A Step Ahead. When I went through the facility this morning, every person I met, from office staff to billing folks to the prosthetists in the amazing onsite lab, knew who I was. I was pretty amazed. Apparently, they all knew it because when they have a tough case, they all rally to make sure the patient wins. They don't walk away and take the easy wins, which I what other places do. A Step Ahead makes a commitment to their patients, and they fight until they win. I can only imagine the countless hours that they spent on calls, and writing letters and gathering records, and more calls - none of which they are paid for. They don't get to charge extra because the insurance company was terrible to deal with. Who does that in today's world? The only company I can tell you for sure that does is A Step Ahead. It may sound corny or even unbelievable, but they fight for what is right regardless of the level of effort involved. Of course, I wouldn't wish my journey on anyone, but the good news is if you just go to these guys first, you likely won't have to endure it. The thing is that this submission and approval was actually the very first time that A Step Ahead got to submit a clean request that wasn't bound by other factors from previous attempts by other providers - and it came back in less than 3 weeks fully approved. These people are the real deal. Take it from someone who has really paid the price for just taking whoever walked into my room at the hospital and taking a quick look at the insurance website to make sure they were in-network. I never thought about being an amputee - I didn't know what I didn't know. After today and putting on the prosthetic they are building for me at A Step Ahead, I am realizing what I didn't know. To say the difference is night and day doesn't do the situation justice. Erik Schaffer and his team are, BAR NONE, IMO THE BEST!! I may not have been to all of the competition, but I have worn something I shouldn't have worn, and now I am being put into something I should. So, the company that made that happen, and made it happen regardless of the hurdles they had to jump through to do it, is going to get my vote every time.

In summary, A Step Ahead make fantastic legs and provide great support but be wary of pricing and don't be afraid to shop around.
