She (Cindy) dyed my hair dark brown. She was so busy with other clients that she left me with dark black dye running down my forehead. We rinsed it out and it was GREEN and way darker than I specially asked for. I was very polite and told her it's darker than my natural color She then got another employee who took me to the back and argued with me for 20 minutes that the color did match my natural color and that it's what I asked for. The lady also lied to this employee saying I asked for this dark color. We went back and forth with them saying it was a match to my natural color until i started crying because they ganged up on me and my hair was GREEN. She told me my pictures of my natural hair were filtered and that "I had highlights in the picture" even though I clarified the picture was from when I grew my hair out for 2 years without dying it or even cutting it. Then they said they needed to dye it "a little" darker to fix the green. I didn't want green hair so I let them. Then my hair was way darker than just a "little". It was a dark brown. They kept arguing with me very rudely that I asked for it, that it was my natural color. I said a million times I wanted it my natural light brown color. They wouldn't admit they were wrong. Even though I made an appointment days in advance, she didn't have time for me to cut my hair and put me off on another employee. They said I could come back within a week if I still didn't like it. I paid and tipped them both and left. I came back today to try to see if they could make it right. I asked to talk to the manager bill in private, he refused. He made us have the conversation in front of the lady who did my hair and the whole salon. He argued with us too and was beyond rude and unprofessional. saying that it matched my picture. He said again, that the pictures I showed were NOT my natural color, that they were filtered and my hair was highlighted. It wasn't. They could see my natural color when I came in from my rooHe was trying not to give me a refund even though the only way to fix my hair now is to pay out of pocket and have it bleached and damaged. He yelled at me saying "will you let me talk now?". He said they could fix my hair with highlights but that wouldn't make it my natural color. He kept saying my hair matches the pictures and that this dark brown is my natural color and what I asked for. They only wanted to give me a 50% refund even though my hair is going to be completely damaged undoing their mistake. Eventually he threw his arms up and walked away from me and told the front desk girl to give me a full refund, but he was obviously extremely angry about it even though we were polite and only wanted them to fix THEIR mistake.

I was nervous about it, and not completely sure. What I really liked about Christina was that "Unfortunately, I'm not going to be the person who's going to push you into something," and I appreciated that. She gave me a quote on how much it would be around, letting me know that she is giving me a number on the higher end just to make sure all bases are covered. My appointment was at 9AM on a rainy Saturday and already it was packed when I came. The interior was bright, clean. Everyone was friendly. I showed Christina several pictures of the hair color I was thinking about. During the hair process, I didn't see the color of my hair at all. However, several people complimented me on it while I was being styled. For the haircut, I let Christina decide what was best and she added some layering and curled my hair. Although it wasn't exactly the shade I wanted or was expecting (a touch redder), it came out really nice still. Lighting can really affect pictures. I included some pictures taken in the salon and outside on the same day (patterned shirt and black shirt). After a week or so, I noticed that it can look like a variation of shades of red and purple some days. I also included a photo taken 3 weeks later, in direct sunlight with my hair curled. After your appointment, they send you an invoice with a breakdown of cost. According to the invoice, I got Half Foil Highlights with a fantasy color, a Women's Haircut (includes blowdry), and a Blowout. However, I also got my roots colored. All the prices are shown on their website. The tip cannot be charged to your credit card but there are other ways to tip. They have their own parking lot. 4.5/5.

Eric is great, this is one of the best cuts I've ever gotten. I have a lot of very straight hair and wear it in a chin-length bob so when its not perfect its so easy to spot mistakes and cuts don't always wear well out of the salon. We talked about it and he texturized the bottom of my hair so its very easy to re-style and dries great.

New Year, new hair. Or so I hoped…read more.. After a thoroughly lackluster but nauseatingly expensive ($225) 'curly cut' by She Who Will Not Be Named the end of last September, come January 2022 I was dismayed at how frowsy I looked but I was also feeling very distrustful of letting any more curl "experts" get near my head. My choices were to cut it myself (been there, done that), fly back to San Francisco to let Rafiki at Pastel Salon do the deed (not really practical for any number of reasons) or find someone closer to home (Center City). That is how I found myself and my curls at the Andre Richard Salon. I was early for my appointment with Ava Darling but she greeted me warmly, took my coat, got me draped and seated and chatted briefly about what I was looking for. She was finishing up with another client and gave me a timeline when she would get started with me. Since I always travel with something to read and the salon's atmosphere was calm and relaxed, it was no sacrifice to sit and zone for awhile with the latest New Yorker magazine. There was music playing but it was so unobtrusive (which is always great), it simply added to the 'ah, now let's just slow down and take a breath' ambiance. Ava is a lovely, courteous, softspoken Scorpio who works very hard at stellar customer satisfaction. She is an excellent listener and best of all (to me), very visual. When I told her what I was looking for in a cut, she immediately got out her phone to show me pictures of what she felt I wanted. She explained that it was important to her that both she and her 'guest' were on the same page and pictures were the best way to assure that. Absolutely! My confidence in the outcome of this cut instantly went to 100%. As she did the dry cut, she explained everything she was doing, answered my questions and asked good questions regarding my likes, dislikes, and lifestyle-as in-how much time and effort did I want to put into a style. It was reassuring to me that I was being treated with so much intentional, individual care and not just getting a cut/style that she wanted to do. After the dry cut, where I exclaimed that I looked 1,000 times better already as well as 10 years younger, I was shampooed, given 2 separate treatments, one to brighten up my color, the other a deep conditioning. Both were part of the cost of the cut but they made me feel like I had booked a spa day as I relaxed under the dryer. Again, with every product she used, Ava explained what she was putting on my hair, why she was doing it and what the outcome would be. At no time did she push me to buy any product she was using or invest in a particular product line. Ava is not 'just' a DevaCurl stylist. She provides full service, so if you are looking for color, any kind of cut for any kind of hair or anything else that can be done to your tresses, she's the woman for you. She constantly checked in with me throughout the 2 hours I was there and I felt very much seen, heard and cared about. When blowout/diffuser time came, Ava again took her time to make sure all the lines of the cut were in accord with each other and that I was satisfied with her work. I was astounded at what she had been able to get my hair to do in what seemed to be an effortless way. I asked about the DevaCut 3 month rule for the next appointment, and she said to see how my hair was growing out, what and where I wanted to go next with it (my first thought was curly mohawk) and asured me that it was fine to wait until Spring before I came in again. In the 7 years that I have been back in Philly, this entire hair affair, from making the appointment and pre-paying online to having Ava help me into my coat as I was preparing to depart, was, without a doubt, the easiest, nicest and most satisfying haircut/salon experience I've enjoyed. I can say with a big grin that I will be most definitely back again!
