Just left dr alwins office, we are 3.5 months pregnant. Had some confusion scheduling appts and he did even introduce to himself as he walked. We explained our frustration, he started arguing with us. We have no results from our ultrasound and this is the first time we've met him. After we said we were going to switch doctors due to his unprofessionalism he continued verbally attacking my girlfriend using our fears of drinking occasionally the first month of pregnancy( because we didn't know we were pregnant) against us! Anyone who can treat a pregnant woman that way especially your own patient should not be allowed to deliver babies. I feel extremely bad for women who go to him by themselves. read more

I was looking for an OB as soon as I found out I was expecting and I seen Dr. Alwan and seen that he had good reviews not only on google but also on yelp so I knew that I had to make an appointment. My first appointment at this office was a meet and greet and they were so very nice and helpful. They also called to reminded me about my appt. I was originally seeing a different doctor, but I was not satisfied and decided to switch around 25 weeks pregnant and began seeing Dr. Alwan. I was satisfied with the staff and the office is nice and clean (much nicer than where I was going). I had been pleased with each of my appointments and I believed I was getting good care throughout my pregnancy. At 40 weeks, I went in to my appointment on a Monday and Dr. Alwan. He checked me out and said everything looks good except my baby's head seemed a little high. We scheduled an inducement date since it didn't seem like baby was ready to come out any time soon. That evening I went into labor, and to make a long story short, my baby was breech. I was ready to start pushing before the doctor that delivered me discovered that my baby was breech and I was soon whisked off to OR. Needless to say I was very upset that Dr. Alwan hadn't discovered the day before my baby was born that she was breech. He also failed to mention that he doesn't actually deliver babies at Pomona Valley...So that was another surprise. I'm thankful that my baby came out happy and healthy...But how did he not have any idea? Frustrated to say the least. read more

This office is very female friendly from the staff to the decor. Getting a pap done is never thought to be a pleasant procedure but I felt very comfortable and was given helpful information from the physician, Jan. She was very sweet and helpful. From my personal experience I believe Dr. Alwan has too many patients under his care. Dr. Alwan delivered my baby in November of 2016. I was induced; hooked up to Pitocin for 32 hours and in those 32 hours my water was broken for just short of 24 hours. My son was "sunny side up" and meconium (baby's first poop) was present when I began to push. After pushing for 2 hours my son was delivered vaginally via vacuum and 4th degree episiotomy. A couple weeks after the swelling had subsided, I had feces and gas passing uncontrollably through my vagina, resulting in infection. I was left with a RECTOVAGINAL FISTULA, an opening that connects the rectum and the vagina. I returned to Dr. Alwan and in December 2016 he attempted a surgery to repair my rectovaginal fistula. The next day it was clear my surgery had failed as gas, followed by feces, was coming through my vagina again. I then had to seek out a specialist, as a rectovaginal fistula is an extremely tricky repair. In my research, I stumbled across another woman who had Dr. Alwan deliver her baby 11 months before me and, she too, was left with a rectovaginal fistula. I found a Urogynecologist that specializes in rectovaginal fistula repair in San Francisco. Long story short after a battle with my insurance I finally had my surgery May 2017 (exactly 6 months to the day from having my son). I have paid $8,500.00 out of my own pocket to be fixed (not including travel, hotel, etc.). I am currently 4.5 weeks post-op and so far my surgery has been successful, THANK GOODNESS! read more

He's the best Doctor in the area. I havd been seening him for 15 years and will never change providers! He's very compassionate, understanding, and gentel. Dr. Alwan loves what he does and it shows in his patient care. He has delivered my babies and everything has went so smooth. My pap swears are always easy and painless. I will never let my self be seen by a female ob if I don't have to. His staff is awesome and his turn around is not hight. Most of the staff has been there for years. Stella!! The medical assistant in the rancho assistant is the best, her customer service is one of the best I ever encountered. It might sound crazy but I miss going to my perinatal visits for the chats and the easy scheduling especially because she was always so considerate about my timing and called back in a timely matter. I had a crazy school and work schedules so I would give her so many parameters to when I could come in and she wouldn't mind at all she did her very best to schedule an appt that was convenient for me and she always asked if I needed a sample of formula. They are seriously the best. All the staff, drs and nps. I've never had any issues. The front desk has always been helpful and quick with anything that was needed during my pregnancies. When dr alwan delivered my son, he was so calm, makes a huge difference to a woman in labor. My husband even talks highly about dr alwan to people. This is by far the worst office I have ever been to. I had the technicians asking me for advice on birth control. The only competent person there was Tina and she left. Since she left I have been yelled at and berated by this office. They also refused to run tests I had asked for and already paid for. I finally switched insurances (paying more specifically to get away from this office) and trying to get my medical records is proving to be extremely difficult. Alex, the front office manager is very rude & cuts you off when you're trying to talk. Jan is nice, but a bit rushy at times. Stella was my favorite front office girl, she was soooo friendly! Dr Alwan delivered my baby via c section, he was always nice... but I saw him for a total of 5 mins my entire stay at the hospital when I delivered, and that's including my 24 hr labor. Unfortunately I developed post partum anxiety. He prescribed zoloft to me without any explanation of what I might feel while taking it, plus he didn't even schedule a follow up or refer me to a counselor. It was just like, "here, take this harsh drug that can give you suicidal thoughts, but um... good luck! See ya later!" I was beyond disappointed in him for doing that. So many post partum mothers fall through the health care cracks and end up doing crazy things, he should know better. read more

Dr. Alwan was great years ago but his PA in Upland has no regard for patients. I am a working mother of two boys, one with autism. I have to make special arrangements with respite or family, or I have to leave work early when I plan appointments because my son needs constant specialized care. I'm also careful about asking for time off because I have so many appointments for my son. I got a missed call just under three hours prior to my appointment cancelling on me. I figured it was a reminder as no message was left. I showed up and the front desk says the PA decided to go home early. I questioned this thinking there must be some mistake. Again and again I was told that she wanted to go home early. I'm now scrambling trying to figure something out to be seen and have care for my son. No sorry either. Just a too bad shrug from the staff. If you work or have any obligations in the real world I'd look elsewhere. And NO, they did not say she was sick. It was simply, she left early today. They tried to reschedule for the VERY NEXT MORNING. If she were ill, I guess they also don't mind getting patients sick too?? Her being sick didn't come up until after my review. read more

I have been coming to Dr Alwan for over 10 years and am extremely happy with him. When I moved to North Hollywood/Burbank three years ago and became pregnant, I thought it would be best to find an OB/GYN closer to home, so I researched and got referrals to a doctor. The staff there didn't help much and never saw the doctor ( I had many questions being it was my first pregnancy ). I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks and staff just told me it happens and again never heard from doctor. My husband and I decided that next pregnancy we go back to Dr. Alwan. A year later I was pregnant and got to see Dr. Alwan right away and staff was very helpful, sadly at 10 weeks I had another miscarriage and Dr Alwan preformed a D&C. A week later I saw him for a follow up and we discussed our next step, he had a plan for me for the next pregnancy so it can help me sustain the pregnancy. I am happy to say I am 28 weeks pregnant! Dr Alwan and staff are amazing and they always answer your questions and console you when needed. And yes, I drive from Burbank to Upland to see them, you got to do what it takes to see the best. About a year ago I was advised by Dr. Alwan to have an endometrial ablation. The thing is, I have had nothing but problems from this procedure. The biggest problem I have had, that is ongoing to this day, is the burning sensation in my vagina. Dr. Alwan had no compassion for my problem. In fact, he made light of the pain I was feeling. He went as far as to tell me it was all mental, thus prescribing antipsychotic medication to me, which I feel was far too extreme. Since the procedure, I have been going to SEVERAL different doctors to try and help me with the intense pain. Yet, none have helped me feel any relief. So I would tell you to beware of this procedure and this doctor because the doctor will tell you it is a simple, fast and easy procedure. BUT it could change your life forever. BEWARE. read more

I am currently a patient here and am planning on not returning. The doctors are nice enough, but uninformative unless asked specific questions. The best thing about this place is CORAL the ultrasound tech, I loved how comforting and sweet she always was and will miss her. The front office staff however is the main reason for my upset and they need major sensitivity training as they put me through a lot of unnecessary stress. My first trimester screenings came back as potential high risk for T21, however when I was called about this I was bluntly told "your baby tested positive for Down syndrome," which was absolutely NOT the case, my hormone/protein levels came back slightly higher than normal for my age and needed more testing. But being that they explained nothing to me and put something that delicate so bluntly, put me and my family in emotional distress. They did see me same day to answer my questions however. They told me I would be referred to a high risk specialist and would confirm my appointment next day, three days later when I still hadn't heard anything I had to call them, and they informed me they tried a few days ago but it hadn't gone through because of a problem with the fax machine. If I hadn't called they wouldn't have remembered. (I will also add once I did see the specialist the next week, she was also appalled at how I was so insensitively informed). My NIPT blood test (which they also did not even explain what it was or how it worked, just that it was more accurate) results came back in a timely manner which I am thankful for, but they shared my babies NORMAL results over a TEXT MESSAGE. I'm sorry but after the week and a half of worry I was put through because of your misinformation and vague explanation you're going to send me a TEXT saying that the results are actually in-fact normal? How insensitive and unprofessional is that?! I was not cared about enough to receive a phone call, therefore I do not care enough to ever return to this office. read more

I am a health care worker at San Antonio Hospital and Dr. Alwan's office came highly recommended by many of my nursing coworkers that work closely with him as well as coworkers whom were his patients. I recently left a HMO and this is my first time using my new PPO. I must say I like the vibe at Dr. Alwan's office and the familiar faces you see each time. The staff is always pleasant and attentive even when busy. Dr. Alwan has a very calm demeanor and I never feel rushed during my appointments. This is my first pregnancy and so far I'm happy with the care I'm receiving. My lab results and sent via email and text along with appointment reminders which is great. This office is amazing! I changed my insurance specifically so I can go here! I have gone here for various forms of birth control and cosmetic procedures. I had a issue with my IUD (it was my fault, not theirs that it started to fall out) on a Saturday. I called the number to page the doctor on call and Dr. Alwan called me in about 20 minutes. That is awesome! I work around Doctors day in and day out and I've never seen better service. Jan and Madonna are both wonderful there! I've gotten chemical peels and laser treatment from Kelly and every time I go it's a great experience! She is so kind and makes you forget you're getting your hair sizzled out haha! She is super gentle! She's never burned me with the laser and I'm getting far better results than I expected! All in all, this place is awesome! read more

Love love love this office. Dr. Alwan was my doctor when I had my youngest and was so sad to hear he moved away from Chino Hills. I had other doctors in between but nothing compared to Dr. Alwan. I decided to switch my IUD from hormonal to non Hormonal and I came to this office. Madonna removed and reinstated my IUD and she did an amazing job. She was very gentle and I couldn't be more happier with the experience I received from this staff! read more

Absolutely the WORST practice I have ever been to. Those with good insurance beware they will use the wrong codes to enable themselves to make more money off of you. I have charges for services never rendered to me. Furthermore when changing doctors and requesting my records they fought the new doctors to release the records, which us by the way illegal, and when they finally did they only sent a portion of it. When I called to find out why I spoke to Alex the "office manager" who proceeded to hang up on me when I asked why the pages with fraudulent charges were missing. Dr Alwan and Fukrai themselves are good personable people, but they may not even know what is going on behind the scenes of their own practice. read more

I chose this place because of the Yelp reviews, I was amazed by the five stars. As an unmarried, first time mom, I was scared out of my mind. On my first consultation, they just asked me some basic questions, told me not to ride a bike and then dismissed me with a goodie bag, sponsored mostly by pharmaceutical companies and their drugs. I came out of the room and just burst into tears, what should've been a reassuring experience turned into a pat on the back and a feeling of loneliness. I only left with more questions and felt completely dismissed, like another number. However, I blamed my feeling on my hormones and kept coming back for the follow-up visits.They kept ordering a bunch of ultrasound and said they were completely safe (later on, through research I found out otherwise). When the OBGYN finally saw me, he looked at me, said I was young and healthy and that I should do just fine. We asked him if he heard of water births because we were intrigued by the experiences we'd heard about, but he quickly made a disapproving face, then he said that they used to do water births at the San Antonio hospital and had heard of a couple of places around there but all had to close down due to liability, the risks of infections, and babies drowning. Babies drowning!? He clearly had no idea what he was talking about, I'm sure he's never even experienced a birth outside the hospital and hasn't done any research outside of the western traditional approaches he's been taught. I still can't believe that in 4 months I was under their care they never took a blood test to see if I had any deficiency. Turns out I was highly anemic, therefore exhausted and sick the whole time. I found out on my own through research, and after I switched to a midwifery the tests confirmed it. After an entire month of research as well as interviews, documentaries, books, videos, and more. We decided that we would take a more natural approach and started looking for a Midwife, it was the best thing we could've done because it opened up our world to natural parenting and non-traditional medicine which has helped us a lot and now we have a very healthy baby. Before you chose a place where you'll feel like a number, please do a lot of research, and if you're brave, hire a midwife and have your baby at home. It's what I'm going to do next time. read more

Dr Alwan was great up until I went to deliver. I was a week overdue when I went into labor, and Dr. Alwan happened to be "off" that night. Since I was overdue, I wish he would have told me he was going to be out, and that I would be seen by his back-up doctor (who absolutely sucked). The backup was a total jerk who had no interest in being at my delivery. I selected Dr. Alwan since he was open to my more natural pregnancy and birthing options (which he was) however he didn't attend my delivery. read more

10:40 a.m. I write this review as I sit and wait to be seen 25 minutes past my appointment time. I find it super frustrating that it's okay for the office to make a patient wait (almost an hour, the first time I visited) but the moment the clock strikes minutes past your appointment time, they take you off the appointment list and cancel your visit. That being said, the parking at this facility is a NIGHTMARE. It's a hit or miss and can literally make you 10 minutes late if you're not careful. This being my case on a previous visit, I called up to the office, let them know the situation, and they said it was fine. When I got up to the office, I sat 20 mins before they let me know they canceled my appointment. SUPER SUPER FRUSTRATING that this office can not manage time wisely. My second grievance with this office is that they don't implement a no cell phone use in the lobby. Patients waiting to be seen seem to be lacking tact while in a public setting. Many use their phones to talk, as though the person on the other end is right in front of them. That triggers the next person to speak louder, and then the next person even louder. There are now 3 people on their phones speaking at volumes that should be unacceptable to the staff. IT IS NOW 11:30. I still have not been called to be seen. Someone who got here 10 minutes ago has already been called back. I was on time to this appointment, with minutes to spare. My initial first visits did not make a good first impression on a new patient, like myself. I'm disappointed that Dr. Thomas Easter would recommend this practice to his OB patients as an alternative to his superior service. (Since moving their offices, they no longer are an OB/GYN, just GYN). read more
