This was a last minute look up and stop for a late dinner after just getting into Miami and starting our drive down to Tavernier. It was a winner. Everyone in our group loved what they ordered. The food was delicious, the sizes were generous and the prices were great. It was around 9:30-10pm when we arrived and the place was still busy. It was fancier than I expected with a bit of a sports bar twist. The menus were on iPads. Our server was friendly and helped a couple people with their orders. I hadn't had black beans and rice in a while so I ordered it as my side along with the plantains and couldn't have made a better choice. I had a Cuban sandwich and my husband had a Cuban style burger. We ate everything on our plate. Yum! It was late night done right. The Mario's remodel is a 10/10 and you have to go experience it for yourself! Looking for an appetizer? Look no further you HAVE to try the frituras de bacalao! These are the best frituras of bacalao I have ever tried and the sauce compliments it so well! We paired this appetizer with the mojito flight and they were absolutely delicious. You get 4 options, passion fruit, lychee, guava & coconut. Afterwards we ordered the vaca frita with moros & tostones. You can order them extra crispy which I recommend. My fiancé ordered the Chicken cordon Bleu which is apparently a staple here and it did not disappoint at all! Overall we had a great experience and the food was fantastic, you can't go wrong with Cuban food in south florida. The remodel of the restaurant was fantastic and you can't tell they put in a lot of effort making this establishment look really nice with a great ambiance. Went to the bar for a quick meet up and got a tequila sunrise by Florence and she was amazing and so nice! The food was tostones mixta it was good for the area. Service by Florence was super nice and attentive! My drinks were good too. The environment feels more upscale to what it use to be and let me tell you this place has been around for at least 15 years or more! Had a very enjoyable dinner at Mario's yesterday. I had been to their old location years ago, and while driving by, I noticed they now have a brand new building. We ordered the Cod Fritters, Chicken Milanesa, Steak Filetillos, and my old man had a craving for eggs over rice with plantains (don't ask me why, but they were very accommodating). Everything was very good -- large portions and reasonably priced. The three meals, a couple of beers, and a shared dessert came out to about $28 per person before tax and tip. I was expecting a tiny, cozy, mom and pop place, but this restaurant is rather large! It wasn't terribly busy, so it FELT like a mom and pop place, with the attentiveness , friendliness and helpfullness of everyone we came in contact with. Hubs wanted to try a Cuban coffee and took the opportunity to do so here. He enjoyed it, but said one was definitely enough. We both ordered the Cubano Especial, which if you don't know, is a standard Cuban sandwich, but more of it. I should have stuck to the smaller version because these sandwiches were gigantic, and I couldn't finish it all. Hubs even struggled, and he can eat! I've been coming here for years. They've recently moved and opened a brand new restaurant which is an upgrade from the previous spot. Food remains consistently good, fresh and served quickly. Service was good overall as well. My biggest problems were the portion sizes (fried cheese) and the very noticeable price jump on everything. So we're paying more for less. See the tiny fried cheese they're serving now. Picture uploaded. They're Half the size of what they use to be, and for more money. They taste great but I wasnt happy with the new portion. Mentioned to mgmt but was told that they're not shrinking the portion, must have been the way they were cut. Mhmmm. My last visit saw them smaller as well but today's visit was indisputable. That's why the 4 stars. I use to feel I was getting a value. Now, it feels like I'm paying much more for less. Even the sizes of the churassco which is now $30. Parking available to the side of the restaurant. We arrived for breakfast and we were pleased. They had a high chair available for our little one to enjoy the meal with us. We were able to sit at a round table. The menu has a lot of options so you may want to give it a look over before arriving. We had the Dos Huevos Revueltos and the Marios Rancheros. I've been coming here for years and just realized I never left a review! If you live in Miami and haven't tried Mario's yet, you're seriously missing out. I always order the vaca frita with congris rice it's my absolute favorite. The meat is always seasoned to perfection, and the congris is cooked beautifully the vaca frita is flavorful, not greasy, just perfect every time. My husband always gets the chicken fajitas, and he finishes the entire plate within minutes! He says the chicken is super juicy, and the veggies have that perfect crisp not soggy at all. The side of beans and rice pairs perfectly with the fajitas. My nephew had the huevos rancheros and enjoyed every bite too. To wrap up the meal, I always get a café con leche, and it's made perfectly every time. The service here is always good friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We went on a recommendation. Mario's must have been having an off night because we were not pleased. I prefer to accentuate as much positive about any restaurant, but I just can't from this visit. Use your own discretion based on the following: Appetizers: My beef empanada came out ten minutes before my wife's cheese sticks and both were not warm. We immediately realized we may have made a mistake. Entrees: The steak my wife wanted was not available so she settled for an alternative. Food arrival took 45 minutes. The chicken strips were small, from poor cuts, and contained gristle. We saw that requesting corrections would take an inordinate amount of time. Status checks from the waiter were nonexistent. We had to go to the bar to get water refills after requesting them of the waiter. Dessert: My first choice was not available so I chose an alternative and my wife chose chocolate cake. After 10 minutes, my dessert came out and we were asked if there would be anything else. When we said, yes, the chocolate cake, and we were told that it was not available. We immediately asked for the check so we could leave. Yet another long wait. I went to the bar to ask for change and was told a Manager would have to do that and I said that would be great. Never talked to a Manager who observed our interaction with the waiter as we voiced our displeasure. The waiter said he was doing the best he could. Again, they could have been having an off night, or, my guess is that the waiter was spread too thin by Management. Whatever the cause, it was not a pleasant experience. And, whatever response the restaurant choses to post here is immaterial as the Manager was within 15 feet of our interaction with our waiter. It would appear as if he chose not to participate in any interaction with us. That is what a Manager is for: to intervene and manage points of contention between customers and staff that arise due to issues with restaurant service. read more

i used to order mario's on a weekly basis. their over-the-phone order have been horrific. if someone picks up, they place you on hold for over 15 minutes (thats insane). i have literally been on the phone and drove up in person, parked, and the women attending is just chatting away with random people and other coworkers while i was waiting on the phone (i walked away). calling now, is unreachable. its crazy that they opened a new restaurant and suck horribly at online or phone orders. its not the same at all, its worse. orders over the phone were so much simpler before their move. now its a mission. call barely get through. it doesn't go through 75% of the time. its sad. read more

Mario's waitstaff was friendly and the restaurant was spacious. They begin the meal by serving you the small buttered toasts. My friend ordered a cafe con leche; interestingly, the coffee cup was filled with warm milk and the coffee was served on the side in the pot. There is, truly, a first time for everything. It was good, nonetheless. To eat: -I ordered the pollo frita. Tasty, but a little overcooked and fried for me. I haven't gone to Mario's recently until I revisited yesterday for a 930 breakfast with my friend. I've been going to Mario's for the past 30 years , though not frequently. I'll say they have the best churassco I've ever had. However yesterday I was disappointed with my breakfast. The bread was buttered but cold and not toasted enough. My Mario's huevos was great except the black beans came out fully cold while my perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs on tostones were warm and waiting for warm black beans. By the time the waitress came to return my black beans to have them reheated until the time the warm beans returned the eggs were cold. I did not enjoy the breakfast. However the cafe con leche was delicious, the best in Homestead. I even had 3 cups. My friend loved the coffee. Mild not bitter. Her portion of bacon was cooked perfectly and she had so much she even took the rest home. read more

I remember when Mario's food was good and service was mediocre at the old location. Now they have improved on their service and their food quality have drastically decreased. I ordered the pork chucks with salad and yuca. The yuca wasn't cooked well enough it was still extremely hard. The pork had no flavor but it was extremely tender. The salad was nothing special , a bed of iceberg lettuce, 3 small slices of tomatoes and a few onions. My children ordered Mac and cheese, pizza and a burger. The burger was very over cooked pretty much burnt. The burger meat could not be eaten. The pizza was ok nothing special and the Mac and cheese looked like it was the microwaved Kraft single serve cup. read more
