I tried some at a local pub but wasn't impressed so I came to City Fish & Chips to give it another shot - so much better! The flavor in both the cod and the chips is great especially with vinegar. The guy who helped me was so nice and made me feel welcome to my new (temporary) home. Perfect place for grab and go fish and chips!

If you want basic quality at a fair price, stop here. The fish & chips were top-of-the curve; dry and crispy, not greasy. The chicken & chips had roasted chicken with flavor-packed gravy reminiscent of a chicken pot-pie (in a really good way)! Dessert was apple-pie, baked like a strudel. Interesting and odd, but good. Soft drinks, tea, coffee, cider, ale & beer. Nothing crazy. Eat here when you are hungry for real food.

Our tour guide had called in our lunch orders before our arrival. We had a choice of four entrees...fish and chips, roasted chicken and chips, meat pie or a jacketed potato. Dessert included. I had the meat pie. Delicious. My other half and a friend of ours both had the fish and chips, which they both enjoyed. Apple pie with a dash of whipped cream and coffee rounded it out. We each had a beer or wine and the total bill of 51.10 pounds seemed reasonable.

There was not a bite of food left on our plates or a drop of liquid left in the cups! So good! And the prices were amazing too.

The chips were tasty and plentiful, and the homemade mushy peas were creamy. Great homemade tartare sauce!

The small was actually enormous. They also have battered sausages, sausages, fish cakes. We were in and out with a pretty large order for 6 people in about 10 minutes. His was a side dish so he was surprised at the good portion size, which included bread. He liked it very much but, since I kept raving to him about the delicious, piping hot veggie pie, he wanted to go back and try one. The second night he got the chicken and broccoli pie and I had the vegetable soup and a mixed salad. Again, everything was delicious, the hot food was nice and hot and cooked just right. In addition to the food, the restaurant has a lot of character and charm, you're eating in a historic building, and our server - Hina - was amazing. If we were staying longer we'd return again and again!

The chips are thick and crispy, brilliant! £8/$11 Apple Blackberry Crumble...disappointing! There didn't seem to be any chunks of fruit, just a mix of syrup and crumbles. It was very liquidity. Custard was nice though. £8/$11 Pint of Guinness...much more expensive than the average pint price.

The cafe is small, seating maybe 20 people, with a warm, cozy feel, especially with their fall decorations lining the main front window. The staff were friendly and polite, bringing out menus and giving us time to peruse. It took a little bit of time to order as it appeared only one person was manning the front of house, and it was between shifts, however when the food came out we weren't disappointed. We ordered a traditional fish and chips £16.75 and an open fish butty £10.25 (part of their 12-4pm lunch specials), and to drink a single Canterbury Gin £5.50 with a Fever Tree tonic as mixer £2.35. Both lunch plates were stellar, I'm not sure I've had a better rendition of fish and chips before! The crispness of the battered exterior was perfection! The tender interior of cod was the epitome of what you want in a delicious f&c. The garlic butter peas and chips were good too. The fish butty was essentially a couple slight smaller pieces of the the same fried fish on a toasted piece of bread with tartare sauce, lettuce, tomato and capers. YUM. The g&t was also delicious, "with notes of juniper, citrus peel, coriander and apple", and crafted locally only 300 meters away in Canterbury. If we weren't traveling I would've loved to try some of the other gins too, all the descriptions sounded intriguing! Note 10% gratuity added to all parties, the menu indicates this is distributed to the service team and chefs.

The steak and onion bap was incredible. The sticky toffee pudding was good, but personally way too sweet for me. My tea only came half filled, but it was a small oversight for such delicious food. I loved being able to order anything in the restaurant without worrying about cross contamination, since it's all 100% gluten free in the restaurant!! We will definitely be back!!
