While I like their clothing, I had a really frustrating experience in person with an online return. I had purchased a coat online (coat was great but just didn't fit right) and, since I was in the area, decided to return at the store. In retrospect, I should have just mailed the return in as I had originally planned. The male salesperson helped me out, scanned the item, and I thought the return was complete. However, when I went home and checked my receipts, I realized that I had gotten incorrectly charged for an exchange for a $100 sweater instead of getting refunded for the full amount of the return item (keep in mind, I just returned the coat and left in less than 5 minutes; I certainly did not purchase any items or make an exchange). I called the store and am hoping the mistake will get fixed and I'll get reimbursed the full amount but this was super frustrating and has never happened to me with another company before - I'm still at a lost for how I could have gotten charged for an item that I didn't purchase.... read more

Wandered into Marine Layer as it was my first time in the shopping center and I had recognized some of the clothes that were out on display from the outside that I had seen in other small boutiques. I did not know much about the brand until that day. The guy on staff was super nice and knowledgable in the brand and the clothes. I learned a lot on my first visit and it had left a memorable mark. If you haven't felt the material of the clothes, well, they feel absolutely amazing! I like how a lot of their styles are classic items while others have more style and fun colors, patterns, or materials used. I created a mental list of some of the items I hope to add to my cart when I am able to again. He mentioned how some of these items would be great to wear while traveling and I totally can picture it. Comfy, casual, can be fashionable in your own way, dress it up or down, there are many ways to style Marine Layer clothes. I also liked how this is a San Francisco brand. Thought the fitting room decor back area was also really nice - set a nice mood. The t-shirt or apparel vending machine in the back was also a cool little thing they had there. Some of the items are on the pricey side, but there are also reasonably priced items and some that have a deal like buy 3 get % off or something of that nature. Bright, clean, and well-laid out. Clothes are excellent quality (tees I have worn for 2+ years and machine-washed are still going strong with very minimal pilling or misshapening). Prices are steep, but Marine Layer is definitely "you get what you pay for". Stopped in for a pair of shorts on sale. Effortless fitting rooms, helpful staff, easy checkout. I'll be back! read more

Love marine layer and own multiple items. Was super excited to visit store instead of driving all the way to SF but was surprised at how indifferent the clerks were. We were not greeted or acknowledged even once even though we were there for awhile and there were no other customers in the store. Very strange, unfriendly experience on 3/31/24 at this store. It actually made we wonder what is the point of her existence and how customer service in the Bay Area has dropped so far. Positive note, the store was tidy and nicely decorated in line with the Marine Layer brand. Large selection of items with a decent sale section in back right corner. Items are fairly expensive in my view ($120 for a hoodie) but within Bay Area hipster price range; if you're a Marine Layer fan, you know what you're in for. I was Introduced to Marine Layer (ML) several months back. The clothes are incredibly soft and comfortable. During my visit, Ashley was very friendly and helpful in finding what I needed. The store manager, Jess, was there too, and such a pleasure to chat with. The customer service was amazing! Got into the brand a couple of months ago and have been dying to visit a store ever since. This store was amazing! Selection was vast and the associates there were so warm and inviting. The store is so cute and the employees are very helpful! I've been to this store in the past and love how they use things like recycled cotton to help the environment! Everyone here has been very nice and helpful however I had a really unfortunate experience where I had a dress on hold that I was excited to purchase, and a new sales associate sold it while it was on hold for me. I own several products from Marine Layer that I have purchased by mail order. I recently stopped in to the Palo Alto location to try to pick up another Allison pant. I honestly felt that my being there was inconveniencing the two employees. One was folding clothes and never looked up, not once, despite my having to walk around her. The other clerk was paying attention only to the other shopper in the store. At least I was able to view the products and see what I want, but instead of troubling the disinterested staff, I went home to place an online order. read more

I was just trying to kill some time at Town and Country before my vaccination at CVS and walked into Marine Layer. I was promptly greeted by the clerk... super friendly... she kindly asked me to sanitize in my way in... she asked if I was looking for something in particular and I said I was just perusing. She said "no problem, let me know if you have any questions or would like to try something on, my name is Jenny." I really like that they don't hound you or judge you for just looking. I really like the style of clothing here, casual and chill yet good quality and can be dressed up as well. The material is so soft... apparently they use recycled materials. Anyway, I poked around and saw these cool sunglasses... and Jenny was quick to compliment me and said they looked really good... I agreed. She said she has bought several pairs as gifts for her cousins and uncles and we started talking about our big families. She pointed out a few new items that just came in and you know what... I bought them!. I don't write many reviews, but Jenny was awesome. My wife loved everything I bought and I feel really good when I wear the stuff. I will be back for more. read more

Great clothes, but the worst customer service. Male and female employees are equally unfriendly and non engaging upon walking in the store. Recently bought several items there, systems were down due to being in the new location so I was given a hand written receipt. I then needed to exchange a size for one of the items and was told I'd have to call another store that had it, repurchase it and bring in the other one. UNHEARD OF. I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have to buy it twice and the store should be able to ship it to another store location. Although I wouldn't be surprised if the employees are just don't know how to do something like that and are just spoiled Palo Alto kids who've never put in effort to anything so they're parents or cell phone could take care of it for them. read more

I love this store! Its my go-to for basics, I havent been able to find shirts this comfortable anywhere else. I stumbled upon it in Town and Country one day during my lunch break and am SO happy I did! The ladies who are usually working when I go in are super sweet and helpful (Annie and Lauren I think are their names?)
