What kind of store is named Boots? With a name like that, you would think that they sell boots,…read moreright? Wrong! They are a chain store, and the leading health and beauty retailer in the United Kingdom. This branch inside the Westfield Stratford City Mall is large. We stopped in after having dinner at Nando's. For some reason, the cough medicine in the U.K. seems to be better than in the States. So we wanted to purchase a couple bottles to bring back home. Found them here at Boots. Price was fair. It was easy to find because the store was well organized and very clean. Service was spot on as well. Everytime we travel to London, we stay in the Stratford area. Now that we know that Boots is here, it is sure to be a regular stop as well.

Located on Homerton High Street next to a Chinese takeaway and a dry cleaners, Silverfields seems an unlikely place to be selling a HUGE range of perfume brands including Vivienne Westwood, Chloe and Dior. The great thing about Silverfields is that they also stock less common brands such as Narcisso Rodriguez, Viktor & Rolf, Chopard and Bulgari.Silverfields also sell a range of skincare brands including Clarins, Elizabeth Arden and Clinique. Service was super fast, and the server was chatty and friendly, offering me advice on my health issues and talking about the local area. They offer a Pharmacy First service for Hackney residents, which means that as long as you register, you can collect treatments for minor common ailments without prescription, as well as a monthly newsletter with updated advice on seasonal health problems. The stock is pretty extensive, and they have a small makeup section, perfect for basics. A great local business with lovely staff!

It's incredibly handy for travellers using the railway station and going to and from the Underground, and seems to be permanently busy. It has all the usual range of pharmaceuticals, other health products and toiletries, as well as snacks and food, and a range of in-store health and testing facilities (for flu vaccinations, chlamydia tests and treatment, etc). The only downside is that the low ceiling makes it feel rather claustrophobic. A new feature is 'serve and scan yourself' check-outs, which seem to work OK (or at least, after a few tries!)

They do a large range of sandwiches, wraps and salads here. If you nip in late afternoon there's often many, still quite fresh, reduced to 75p each. Though the combinations can be fancy, the flavour on the whole isn't. Proscutio with fig jam or chicken with pesto sounds delicious, but I found both a little dull. But at 75p a sandwich I'm not complaining I'd have given it an OK 3 stars, but I just saw a report on TV in which Boot's sandwiches came out favourably compared to other major players in terms of salt and fat content. I guess I may be finding them dull simply as I'm used to saltier sandwiches. The taste buds do adjust I'm told That definitely takes them up to 4.
