Servers are super friendly, polite and helpful. Decent Mexican food! Really large menu and fun decor, but service could of definitely used some work. The chips and salsa were good but the salsa was very spicy! We were happy it also came with bean dip but if you want more bean dip they charge. Portions were huge and food was good. The beef tasted a bit off but overall it was a decent meal. We like the Marieta's happy hour. They have decent specials on beer and margaritas. They also have complimentary chips and salsa, sometimes we'll even score a complimentary small quesadilla and nachos plate. We love Marieta's...BUT, the bar needs to be completely leveled and redone. It is a bar from years' (decades) past. The bar top is faux wood Formica with a bulbous tuck and rolled green Naugahyde "armrest" in front. Which makes it diffifult to eat as your plate is a foot away. The bar itself is small and can only accommodate eight bar sitters. The barstools are the same green as the bar and every bit as old. The four booths along the opposite wall need to be destroyed. They are terrible and look to be from a circa 1960's diner. They need to be torn out and replaced with four-tops. Not only would it be more aesthetically pleasing, but would allow for additional seating - and comfort. The bar has one TV. Whoever gets there first gets the remote. Go early! read more

It's been ions since I first ate at Marietta's in Bonita. I was very happy to find one in Santee and that the food was just as excellent, authentic Mexican cuisine as I remember. The atmosphere, owner and staff are warm and the ambiance inviting and enjoyable to behold. We each had soup that day, my husband menudo and I red pozole for lunch. I've been coming here for over 30 years. They have the nicest people my friend Javier said that he plays golf with the owner and he is a real nice guy. All the workers are friendly very kind. One night I went in there and my friend had cashed her check and left several thousand dollars in the bathroom, when we came back, they had the money waiting at the desk for her. WARNING: CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS OR AVOID GOING HERE!!!! My dad went to this restaurant the other day with his girlfriend. First of all, the tacos he ordered came out with burnt meat and taco shells harder than the chips you get with salsa. Then the bill arrives and he gave the waiter his card. The waiter went off around the corner and came back with the receipt saying, "sign here", pointing to the signature line. My dad noticed that the waiter had taken it upon himself to add a 25% gratuity to the bill and when he questioned the man, the manager came over and tried to lie by saying "that's the suggested tip", when it was already added to the total. First of all, a tip isn't a requirement and it is most definitely NOT the decision of the waiter or anyone else in that restaurant. Adding gratuity is at the discretion of the customer. Frankly, my dad always tips in cash anyway. To take it upon themselves to add the tip is theft and credit card fraud. This business should be ashamed of itself and the people involved should be fired. If I were the owner, I would not want a dishonest person working in my establishment, tarnishing my reputation. This is a place that I haven't been in years, but it was recommended by friends that I returned. It's a cute location that is decorated in a Mexican theme, which is very appropriate. They have a gentleman that goes around with his guitar and plays Mexican songs. He's very good. We got the two taco combo to split. One was Carne Asada and one was Barbacoa. We also split a chimichanga. The Carne Asada was very good. The Barbacoa had big hunks of me. It was a little bit more dry than I'm used to, but I think was more authentic than I'm used to. The chimichanga was very good. Beans and rice. Also good. Service was, very nice. They were busy, but the servers were attentive. And we got in and out of there pretty quickly. read more

A Santee institution for generations, Marieta's is a no frills, old school Mexican family restaurant. We visited recently during the peak of our gross "heat dome" and either they were NOT running the AC or it was inoperable. I wondered why the parking lot was so empty LOL. We decided to tough it out regardless. They had a big swamp cooler thing going plus a number of fans. It was tolerable, although their draft beer was not properly chilled. No bueno. I really enjoyed my wet beef burrito. It was evident the shredded beef was thoughtfully prepared and not just from a can. Highlight is definitely their Mariachi! It's obviously hit or miss at this establishment judging by the other comments but I have been there enough to know it's more misses than hits. This place is close to my moms and I've been coming for a few years now. They have some of the best chips & salsa I've ever had. The salsa is nice and spicy and the chips are always on point. I can't speak for to much on the menu considering I've been getting the same thing for years now. But the camarones al mojo de ajo is great! The shrimp is in a nice garlic butter & the rice is nice and fluffy. It's def a bit more pricey than most Mexican spots I've been too, but it is worth it in my opinion! The service is always good & every time I've been there, I've left happy! Will continue to go for years to come. read more
