This is one of those places that you can easily walk by and not notice. Its almost like a hidden dive bar, but not really. The inside decor is outdated, but was probably done like that intentionally. It gives you that vibe that you may be at a bar back in the old days. The inside is spacious and has a ping pong table and video lottery on one side. The drinks here are simple and inexpensive. Two things that make this bar stand out to me - 1) There is a large patio in the back that is definitely cool to hang out at and relax. 2) Dub's uses the kitchen here and operates his business out of there... cooking his delicious fried chicken and ribs. This place is almost like a hidden gem that I almost don't want to post and just keep to myself.

Irish fries that were great.

Great food. Good prices. The woman cook is amazing. The food she makes is fresh and made to order. Love her food. Hard to find a place to make a true medium rare burger. Amazing. Good bar prices and ping pong.

Do you ever have that dream where Frank Sinatra is wearing a polo shirt with a popped collar and he attacks you with a Lisa Frank pee chee? I have that dream almost every other night. It may actually be classified as a nightmare. Anyways. Marie's in St Johns is that nightmare come to life. Giant pink booths. Foosball. Spangers. Shake n' bake chicken. Cheap beer. This a place you take your grandmother to for mint juleps and then you yell at her for dressing like a hussy and she cries.

Stopped by after a hike in Forest Park - with our dog. We specifically came for the outdoor patio…read more- and we were the only people outside (it was also like 40 F outside. There is quite a bit of room on the outside patio, community tables though so keep that in mind. Service was good, the bartender was the server for the patio on the day we visited. We didn't see her a ton, but that was fine with us - when we did she was friendly and helpful. We got their veggie burger with fries, and the black bean quesadilla. The veggie burger was excellent (it's a Field Roast patty), the fries were ahhh-mazing and tasty. The quesadilla had SO much cheese it had all glopped together on the plate, and I had to eat it with a knife a fork. Now if you've read any of my reviews, there is no such things as too much cheese (normally). This. had. too. much. cheese. I could not separate the slices of the quesadilla, at all. It was like a multilayer pizza. The only problem, aside from my waistline, is that with THAT much cheese all I tasted was cheese. Couldn't taste the beans, tortilla, pico - just cheese. So I drowned it in cholula just to get something out of it. Perhaps it was an off day - and again, I wouldn't normally ding something with too much cheese - but geeeez.

Greeted with quick, polite service in a clean environment (even the bathroom). I ordered the…read moreSpecial " Blue cheese burger with fries " and a root beer "Great Nation Root Beer". Cook time were very fast and the burger was wonderful with the blue cheese mated with the grilled onions on a great soft bun (not dry at all).

The grilled trout with zarandeado marinade is memorable ... wonderful flavor! The burgers are good, but not necessarily a knock out that stands above other places. I tried their salmon fish and chips. It's the PNW so salmon makes good sense, and I love salmon, but I discovered that the flavor profile of salmon isn't quite right for a battered and fried fish dish like white fish are. I've had only one truly disappointing experience. I had a light appetite so I ordered their Beet and Citrus salad. I declined any protein to be added. For $18 I received a large platter with the salad literally taking up ONE HALF side of the platter as if something else was supposed to be served beside it. The chef could've easily proportionalized the size of the salad and balanced it on the plate so it looked like a complete meal. Instead, what I got almost felt like the chef was telling me that I should've ordered something else with it.

Great service, great drinks, and the best pizza I've had in decades!…read more The beers Backwoods makes are all delicious and smooth-drinking. The service staff was all exceptional. But the pizza! Off the charts!, FULL REVIEW of all Services: If anyone who enjoys hiking, river fishing, or just a general outdoor-focused vacation wants a good, simple getaway with their spouse/loved one, check out the Backwoods brand in Carson, Washington (just north-northeast of Bridge of the Gods/Cascades Locks). Backwoods Cabins offers a really great overnight stay option. The 8 cabins there are all basic "two-room" designs (bedroom and attached bathroom, and a living room / mini-kitchen room). The cabins sport king-sized beds, a gas fireplace and outdoor fire, a mini kitchen with refrigerator/freezer and microwave (no stove/range). I think 3 of the 8 cabins welcome dogs. The Backwoods brand also owns Backwoods Brewery, which is just across the road from the cabin property. They have great microbrew beers (from light lagers to GREAT stouts!). The brewery also has a smokehouse, with fantastic smoked brisket, pulled pork, and house-made sausage/brats. But even better, the Backwoods Brewery offers the BEST PIZZA I've had in decades. The pizza dough is a perfect balance of flavor and texture. It's not too thin and not too thick. The crust is chewy in the middle, with a great crusty edge and base. The red sauce (they also have a white sauce we didn't try) is thick and rich, with a few tomato chunks. It's got a slight spicy bite with a sweet finish. They also have some unique house pizzas. We tried the Whistle Punk - Red sauce, bacon, smoked brisket, peppadew peppers, sweet onions, fresh mozzarella rounds - and the Pepperoni Express - Red sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, tomatoes, banana peppers, smoked mozzarella. Both were outstanding. I'd go so far as to say both Donna and I deemed these the best pizzas we've had in 35+ years (noting that our first date was at a pizza joint in Fife we both thought was the best-ever pizza). If you stay in the Backwoods Cabins, you get two coupons for free drinks at the brewery (beer/wine/cider/cocktails) as well as an assortment of snacks for your hiking adventures, and a full S'mores kit to use over the gas fire pit. And if you are in a dog-friendly cabin, you get complimentary treats, and water/food bowls for your canines.

Gluten free review:…read more Came here after a hike because I believe in balance, climb a hill, eat a pizza. Thrilled they had gluten-free options. Tried the Tree Hugger 10" GF pizza and it was genuinely tasty. The crust? So good. The staff? Kind. The price? About $20, which felt a little "ouch," but the pizza did not, and that's what matters. The place was fun and great ambiance. Take a fun trip and go try this place out.

The plate must have included at least half a pound of halibut in a light and crispy beer batter. Chips are steak fries, really nicely cooked to be crisp on the outside and hot and mealy on the inside. Personally, I could do without the hint of garlic seasoning on the chips, but I am a purist. We also tried the house-made samosas, which had a buttery and incredibly flaky crust and a well-balanced filling that hit just the right notes of ginger, cumin, and curry. Bonus nice touch: we asked for salt and got a small dish of Maldon flake. The 16 beer and cider tap selection offered something for all tastes, including NA, and they offer a wide range of specialty cocktails and mocktails. The vibe was really chill, too. Lots of tvs for viewing/visual distraction: sports, including cricket, and a Japanese anime about volleyball. Plenty of games to borrow, too. Seating ranges from bar to high-top restaurant seating to living-room style. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. I felt like they are really taking pride in their work and their craft, which always shows and is appreciated. This one is going into the regular rotation!
