This place is known for the original veal Wiener schnitzel. It's also offered in turkey, pork and chicken. We got the pork version with rice as a side dish since side dishes were not included. The schnitzels were two flat pieces and lightly seasoned and perfectly fried giving you a crispiness with every bite. I really enjoyed this dish. I've been having schnitzels throughout this trip and this was my favorite out of all especially when they offer rice. Stopped by this spot on a backpacking trip through Europe. It is just down the street from Wombats Hostel, so it is an ideal location for any backpacker. For Austria, the prices were fairly reasonable. The menu, printed in English and German, was loaded with traditional Viennese fare. At first I was going to go with the standard goulash, but then I spied gnocchi in tomato sauce and I was done perusing the rather substantial menu. (I know, I know, Sacrilege ordering Italian in Austria, but hey the stomach wants what the stomach wants). The gnocchi was surprising diversion from the many servings of goulash and sacherwurstel I had had on my trip, All I good think of as I took a bit of my creamy gnocchi was that some one had kidnapped an Italian chief and chained him to the stove...I hope they give him time off for good behavior but not before I have my next visit..yum The Beer is, of course, with a wide selection. This place has a nice mix of locals and tourist so it should fit the needs of just about anyone. Service wasn't horrible, but it was a little slow even by European standards; this might have been because most of customers were sitting outside and I had taken a seat inside. The bar was really cool and I wanted to take in the decor, otherwise, I would have taken a table outside. Portions, portions, portions are the first words that come to mind when the food came out here, because god, jesus...they were freakin' huge here! My friend got the ribs, I of course got the wiener schnitzel, and my other friend got the tafelspitz. The ribs were a bit on the overcooked side, but still had great flavor, and my wiener schnitzel was decent, the bed of rice under it was actually the highlight as they must've put some butter in there (can't go wrong with some buttered rice). My friend got the tafelspitz as we heard this was a traditional Austrian dish. It had a good flavor, but was a bit chewy and I guess boiled beef wouldn't exactly be our favorite thing to eat. The inside of the place is huge with plenty of booths to sit at. This was close to our hostel and definitely sufficed in a pinch - not a bad place to have a meal and drink. I came here twice during my stop in Vienna. Once for lunch and I got the goulash. This was my first time having it and it reminded me of a beef stew. It was really rich and heavy so I had a hard time finishing the whole thing. The other time I came here was for breakfast as my hotel offered a discount for their breakfast buffet. It was decent but nothing spectacular. I don't know if the service here was bad because they were afraid to speak English to me, but I had to flag the servers down each time even though they had to walk past me to get from the bar/kitchen to the main dining area. read more

Enjoyed this pretty much touristy (well there are some locals) spot off the beaten path on our last night in Austria. Bf and I had adopted the local custom of just seating yourself and grabbing a menu and was surprised that a waitress asked if we wanted a table. We sat next to two ladies and ordered our drinks. Bf had the touristy large liter size of Mariahilfen (sp?) beer which was fine - standard and I, a tasty glass of finely chilled grunter vellenter (sorry just both the name). Might have been the best white ever - not too dry not too sweet. We shared the Farmers Feast which was a lot of tasty tart sauerkraut, a Vienna bread dumpling (kind of like a ball of stuffing and mazzoh) tasty and filling, a thick slice of ham steak and roasted pork. We also Got some tasty hot dog. We also shared the cordon blue which was nicely fried- not too greasy and thinly pounded. Only issue was that it was lacking cheese and tasted more like plain ole Wiener schnitzel. Still good though. Portions are more reasonable than at Schitznwirt but a tad more experience. Service is quicker and nicer than we has expected in most of Vienna, and note they only take cash here! Atmosphere is somewhat festive and restaurant is spacious with an enclosed Room for smokers. read more

Tried breakfast available here for 9.90€. The buffet selection included breads, spreads, boiled eggs, crepe, sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee and juice. Items seemed regularly replenished which was good to see. Great place to hang around on a cold winter morning and drink plenty of coffee to kick start your day. I hung around for about an hour longer using their WiFi and they were very accommodating. The establishment is rather large with plenty of seating. It becomes a full bar and restaurant during the daily service, with other food options available. Ask the staff for the WiFi password - its fast and worthwhile. read more

Couldn't find the falafel place I was looking for, so ended up here. The menu has all the traditional Austrian dishes, but also things like gnocchi and steaks. I had the Viennese-style goulash, which came with bread - I approve! I eat a lot of goulash and it tasted home made. My friend had the gnocchi, which was okay too. You'll find almost any dish here - including vegetarian ones, so most people will find something they like. Beer/drinks are cheap too. Supposedly there is free wifi but I didn't see any information on how to access it. read more

Awesome Sunday brunch! Great value for money. Lots of variety from make your own waffles to schnitzel, lasagna, Müsli, anything the heart desires! The regular restaurant outside of Sunday brunch is disappointing and feels overpriced. The food is decent but the portions are small for the price. Be warned, this place charges 2 euros for a large glass of tap water. I fully support charging for tap water but 2 euros is a bit much! read more

was staying at Wombats and came down here on a Monday night for dinner. It was nice that they had a separate smoking room. We were seated relatively towards the back, which might explain why the waitress neglected us for most of the meal. She had quite the attitude with us when we tried to flag her down. The restaurant wont let you drink your own water (which the waitress very snarkily pointed out when she saw our water bottles). And the only time she was attentive to us was when my friend was pouring some water out of her bottle to clean off some spilled food, and she came running towards us from across the room to remind us that we cannot drink our own water. We ordered the goulash and pork cutlet, which was "okay", the cutlet being very dry and the goulash being very salty. Knocking off one star for the service And another for the meh food. read more

We come here for the Schnitzel, beer and other traditional Viennese dishes. The portion sizes are big, so come hungry. The service is a bit slow, but that is normal here- what's the rush? Make sure you order a beer and settle in to enjoy your meal! Our favorite server is Daniella, the face of the restaurant, and rightfully so. She, along with the rest of the staff, do an excellent job! Whenever we have friends visiting, we always bring them here because of the tasty food and festive atmosphere. read more

I was asked to seat myself in the non smoking section and then I waited...And waited and waited ten minutes for a menu. Then I waited another five minutes and non of the server's came by to check on me and I couldn't wave down anyone. So I left. No one noticed. The service is poor. read more

Free Wi-fi, and good spare ribs. The charge for water I agree is ridiculous but I assume they take business from the nearby Wombats hostel and try to make the most of it. We ordered beers instead. The ribs we had were large and quite satisfying. Service is so-so and quite acceptable for a meal. read more
