Anyways, after reading other reviews on Dr. Alvaro Fernandez-Carol, I felt I needed to post a review based on my experience in his office. I was referred to Dr. Fernandez-Carol by a colleague. I hesitated on making an appointment since the distance from his office is so great from my home (I live in Homestead). Though my toothache was so painful, I made the appointment and gave it a try. They were able to see me right away, I am glad I made the call. From the first conversation with Esmi, in the front desk, to the assistants, hygienist, and Doctor, the staff was welcoming, patient, sweet, and most importantly, they treated me like family! It's been exactly a year since my first visit and I have recommended Dr. Fernandez-Carol and his team to everyone I know. Their attention to detail and dedication to making you feel at home is stupendous. I now visit their office every 3 weeks for their orthodontics services (which is amazing!!!) and there isn't one appointment that I don't walk out without crying from how much I have laughed. Dr. Fernandez-Carol and his team are dedicated to providing a stress free service. They take the time to know me, my family and my concerns. They have educated me on proper care and always take their time to answer ALL my questions and concerns. When I asked about their orthodontics program, six month smiles, my first concern was the cost. Yes, it is an expensive treatment but Esmi was quick to advice me on various forms of dental insurance and financing services such as Care Credit. I left that day with a plan and was able to afford all my treatments thanks to the advice I received. I wish all my health care physicians were as passionate, efficient, and caring towards their patients as Dr. Fernandez-Carol. The Dr and his team make it a joy to be there and put to shame all my other physicians. I saw 2 more periodontists who said the same thing. When I went back to speak to the dentist as to how my gums could have gotten so bad and he never mentioned anything about gum problems before, he suddenly gave me a chilly reception with no apology, no advice, no flashy smile and when he said I'm the only patient who complained, I knew our relationship was over. As long as the problem is not serious, eg cleanings, fillings, bondings, etc, he's competent but he's not responsible for gum problems....not his thing.

They charged $300 for X‑rays and added $170 for flossing half of my husband's teeth -- nothing more. Having been treated by world‑class dentists, including Dr. Lindsay Pankey Sr. & Jr., I know what ethical, skilled dentistry looks like. Towncare Dental Pinecrest is the opposite. Their priorities are financial, not clinical, and certainly not patient‑centered. I reported the incident to my insurance, though I doubt anything will change; the system protects revenue, not patients. If the ADA truly monitors practices like this, they should intervene. Dental cleaning and true dental care should be separate disciplines -- just as a pedicure is not the same as seeing a podiatrist.
