I saw her all of once,…read morewhere she on the spot diagnosed me (which seemed very, very unprofessional) and immediately started hocking incredibly expensive, sketchy procedures. Then, before our next session, fired me as a client stating I needed "more therapy". Absolutely should not be helping people, if you can even call it that.

She was a perfect match to figure out the baggage that has been killing a 20 year marriage. We didn't spend too much time hashing out arguments, we weren't there to fight, we spent most of the time understanding ourselves and each other. Liz had us take some tests and showed us what make us tick inside. I was able to finally understand after 30 YEARS why my wife does what she does and she now understands why I do what I do! We still carry our baggage and now know how it has actually kept us together but it is so much lighter. Our weekly sessions became "date night" for us. The emotional lights were going on and we learned how not to be hurt by our actions towards each other it was just the way we love. We ended our therapy and all is good still. I would like to know though if Liz has any more techniques make a great marriage even better.

I admitted to the counselor that I have been intoxicated a few times in my life, and at the end of the session he said "well, I don't think you have a problem"...I was slightly relieved and asked him if he was going to state that in the evaluation and he said no, that he did see an issue. Problem #1: Ultimate contradiction. He then said he thinks I am chemically dependent. CHEMICALLY DEPENDENT. 6 MONTHS OF DEPENDENCY TREATMENT. no. When I asked him how on earth he could think that, he said "well, I think you would benefit from some education. Problem #2: There is a difference between "some" alcohol education, and 6 months of dependency treatment. I thanked him for his time and quickly made an appointment for a second evaluation somewhere else. I took the eval from Olalla to the new place, re-did the tests, and that counselor said no way can I be considered chemically dependent. I am so glad I got the second evaluation. Moral of the story: If you have an alcohol related incident, this place will find you chemically dependent even if you have no history of alcohol abuse in the past.

Did she even read everything we had been asked to provide?? In our two sessions, Ms. Katon revealed a defensive attitude, impatience, and offered no demonstration of compassion. We were also taken aback by inappropriate offhand remarks (laughingly suggesting, for example, that we "go home and have make-up sex" as we were leaving our first session -- where "sex" had not even been mentioned!! Really?!) Such a loaded comment could throw a grenade into many relationships; couples seeking help from a "professional" while struggling to move forward. This is one example of inappropriate "treatment" with little to no genuine understanding of how vulnerable new clients can be when seeking therapeutic assistance. After two sessions (we did not return) it became clear that this practitioner has real and present issues of her own to resolve. If you do move in her direction for therapy, proceed with caution, know that she is direct to a fault (insensitive), and watch for other red flags -- of which there are many.

His cash pay rates were very reasonable, which made it easy for me visit him. Dr. Varu asked very direct, succinct questions to diagnose and get to know me. We quickly identified my needs and started a very basic medication regimen. My progress steadily improved under Dr. Varu's care. Within a few weeks I was feeling and living much better. In a few months I felt I was truly normal for the first time. Over almost 5 years of semi-quarterly visits, Dr. Varu has kept an eye on me, asked about my life, shared a bit of his, and even given me some good fatherly advice when I needed it. It's too bad that I've moved out of state. I will miss my visits. (Thanks, doc. I followed your advice and I'm now in the highest paying job I've ever had -- more than double my previous salary!) While Dr. Varu is an excellent listener and he does show great empathy, I feel his strength is getting at root causes using sound medical science. I very much appreciate how he found medication for me that did not leave me feeling dulled or empty or edgy. Yes, I'm sure we could have talked forever about my awful childhood. But just one visit and a skillful prescription is what put me on the right track to health, productivity, and happiness. Thank you, Dr. Varu!
