This place continues to go downhill. Beef tacos were served cold, with nothing but lettuce and a tiny sprinkle of cheese. Last two times here have been bad. Not sure Im going to risk coming here again, since we have so many good Mexican restaurants in Cullman. read more

Margaronas Cantina - Two beef tacos (untouched. This is exactly what they brought) - Mexican Near Me - Cullman, Alabama

I came to Margaronas Cantina in Cullman for my friend Julia's birthday dinner. They put a few small tables together to form one huge one. The staff was super friendly and accommodating to our needs even celebrating her with a dessert, sombrero, and birthday song. To eat, we started off with free chips and salsa then I ordered a steak quesadilla a la carte. There was a lot of steak in cheese in there. Very delicious and cheap at around $7 for my total. read more

Came here as it was one of the Mexican places my wife and I have not tried yet in Cullman. It went downhill as soon as we walked in the door. Went for dinner on a Friday about 5:30 or so. The place was somewhat crowded but there were still a lot of empty seats. My wife is disabled and prefers sitting in a booth rather than having her walker in the middle of an aisle if we were to sit at just a table. I requested a booth when we walked in. Standing at the doorway, I could see at least 4 empty booths. The girl took us around the corner and said, "I thought we had a booth open here". She put our silverware and menus down on the table closest to her and then walked away. Of course, the very next couple that walked in the door went straight to a booth. Guess we weren't Mexican enough to get a booth. Let's talk about the food. I got the 3 steak street tacos with rice and beans. The beans were very runny, almost a liquid. Very bland. The rice was just ok. The steak - very, very tough. Hard to chew. The flavor was ok, but it was just so tough. I get better street tacos from the food truck down the road. Our server was nice. His name was Jose S. (go figure) Needless to say, there are far too many Mexican places in Cullman. We shall not be returning here. As I said earlier, the food is better at the food truck down the road (cheaper too) read more

Since moving to the Cullman area last year, this has been our favorite Mexican restaurant. In fact, when we first sat dish we commented on how we didn't even want to try another. Apparently someone decided to mess with a good thing. First thing we noticed the chips are now so thin you can't pick up the salsa without them cracking in half. And that's with salsa that is now more like thin soup. We just pushed them away. We asked to speak to a manager but nobody ever appeared. After never having a meal we didn't like, BOTH meals were disappointments. The chimichanga was undercooked to where it was difficult to slice and tasted doughy. The fajita was also undercooked / the vegetables were raw and the shrimp barely cooked, When checking out we mentioned all this but again there was no manager available. Not sure what the manager was doing but they should be paying more attention to the quality of food and customers. Looks like we'll need to try out other options next time. It's a shame to see cost cutting and poor management ruin a great restaurant. read more

I really wanted to like this place.. The reviews I had read of this place, as well as the recommendation given to me by my friend suggested this place would be really, REALLY, good. But if i had to use one word to describe this place, it would be meh. First, the salsa. It came off as heavily "tomatoey" and not in a good way. Tasted like marinara sauce... cheap a$$ marinara sauce. It lacked any kind of a kick. Maybe it'd be good with pasta but tortilla chips??? Anyway... we ordered our food and it was brought out in record time, less than 5 minutes. I ordered the fajitas nachos with chicken. While the portions were definitely decent, the meat and veggies was just devoid of any spice, and the cheese was skimpy at best. I mean the experience was definitely not horrible, but for $30 it definitely wasn't great. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was very good. But, for this quality of cooking, I hate to say it, merely lipstick on a pig. Definitely has potential though, but really needs to step it up in the flavpr department. read more

Margaronas Cantina - Fajitas Nachos Chicken - Mexican Near Me - Cullman, Alabama

Not impressed with Margaronas. Our order consisted of Fajitas, a grilled seafood dish, a Chile Relleno, and an order of Spinach Dip. We had to order to go due to Covid19. Even though we ordered an additional appetizer dip, there were no chips in our order. We had to drive back to get chips. The so called spinach dip was basically sautéed spinach and canned corn drizzled with queso. Definitely not a dip. The Chicken Chile Relleno would have been good if the chicken wasn't chewy and tough. The grilled seafood should have been called grilled vegetables and rice. The menu description said it had a special sauce as well as Queso, but there was no sauce at all. With the many other options to choose from, I will definitely not be back or recommend this place. read more

First, good service. They were able to accommodate 18 of us on very short notice. The tickets were correct and this is impressive given the number of drinks, shots, etc. The food was average...not bad, not great. We had a birthday girl with us and they brought out the sombrero hat and sang. read more

The food was absolutely AMAZING!!!! They have some of the best margaritas I've had in a long time! The service is complete trash! When we weee sat, I asked the hostess for a high chair, she placed our menus and walked away back to the hostess station. My husband walked across the restaurant to get the high chair. Our server was more interested in conversing with coworkers than waiting tables. I knocked 2 stars off because of the service. We will go back because the food is so good. read more

Used to enjoy Margaronas and eat there frequently. Hadn't been in a couple of months but went recently and the experience was very disappointing. This used to be the most consistently good Mexican restaurant in Cullman. We got seated right away and the restaurant was not overly packed. Generally service is quick and I'd say it still was. When we got our chips and salsa, the chips were stale and the salsa was runny with literally half of a tomato chunk in the bowl. While scanning the menu, we noticed the prices have gone up exponentially on all items. I get the economy sucks, but my salary isn't going up with these prices, and if you want me to pay 18 dollars for a fajita taco salad - you're gonna have to use better cuts of steak. It's decent but generally chewy, and I can't bring myself to find anything on the menu that is genuinely worth 16+ dollars. That being said I ordered single items vs meals. Everything we got was cold when it came out and taco shells were also stale. No hot sauce available on tables or the house made one the usually have. I'd give a one star for this single experience, but a consistent 4 star prior to this. I hope this is something they are able to improve upon since they have been such a staple. read more

Decided to walk over from hotel and was pleasantly surprised. It's decorated just like a Mexican cantina with lights, color and decorations. We ordered the queso, which had good consistency and taste but we were not asked if we wanted jalapeños, so it came out plain which was fine but would have liked jalapeños. We then ordered margaritas, they were just okay, all pre-mixed and not original. For dinner, we ordered the steak fajitas that was a huge order of them enough to feed 3 adults, so I would have preferred to pay half price and got half the order or a suggestion to split would have been nice. The steak, grilled onions and grilled peppers all have great flavor but the steak was a little well done. The fajitas all came with refried beans, rice, lettuce, pico, sour cream, guac and tortillas. Overall I give this place 4 stars for the food, 3 stars for service, 3&1/2 stars for ambience and 4 stars for convenience. read more

When your usual spot is closed, sometime you try something new and get surprised. That's what happened to us when we out celebrating another birthday, we gave this place a shot and it did not disappoint. Our table of six had a great time and the food was plentiful and delicious. With them opening another location closer to us, maybe this becomes our new "go to" for Mexican. read more

Really it was eh... Service was slow and not very attentive. We ordered drinks and the Mexican dip right after we sat down. It was a while before she came and took our orders...still no dip...then another while and I finally asked her about it and it was pretty apparent she had forgotten. The Mexican dip is cheese dip with beef and pico de gallo. It would have been good had the beef not made it really runny and kind of gross from all of the grease. By the time we got the dip we were nearly out of chips, ran out, and couldn't eat the dip if we wanted to. Another long while and our food finally arrives 1 plate at a time. My husbands burrito came out first. Halfway through that my meal arrived. When he had only a few bites of burrito left the waitress came by to see if anyone had brought his two tacos. Nope...so she had to go get those. He really didn't care for anything he had-beef burrito, steak soft taco, and hard chicken taco. Beef was unseasoned. Chicken was probably the closest to being good because it was seasoned. I had the Guacamaya which is like a torta. It was on fresh made bread with shredded pork, refried beans, pico de gallo, and avocado. I was very pleased with the quality of my meal until it started falling apart. Bread was delicious, pork was tender. I just don't think it made up for the service issues we had. They have a very unique menu so I think it's worth another try. For a fairly new restaurant in a town where Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen there were a good many patrons so apparently people really enjoy it. read more

I was disappointed, especially with this restaurant winning the "best of" award....they seemed to be short handed and the food was only fair. We just moved to Cullman and I'll need to find another "go to" for Mexican Food. read more

Great place in town to get Mexican food! The queso is always tasty, and I've loved each item I've tried from the menu. My favorites are the Rice Deluxe and the Mexican Spaghetti! They are both filling and the fajita steak is very delicious. The service is always swift and very friendly! read more

I'm not usually a big Mexican fan, so I was pleasantly surprised by this place. My husband and son, who love Mexican food, both loved this place as well. Decided to stop in Cullman for an evening meal on our way back from Birmingham. Margaronas Cantina had high rating and Mexican sound good so we took the couple mile drive off of I65. I tried to think of a reasons not to rate this restaurant a five star but didn't succeed. Our food was a berry good portion and the grilled chicken had a vary good taste. Cops were thin and went really well with their salsa. Salsa was not for ants had a slight lime flavor. I would highly recommend eating here and plan to be back in the future. read more

The food was terrible but what was worse was when we complained we were told to eat somewhere else. VERY bad service and customer relations.

Awful service here. Everyone is mad at the world because they have to work there. Took 2 hours to get our food and never got a refill of chips. To top it all off I went to the bathroom and saw that someone shit on the floor. Will never go there again read more

We had a group of 13 people, and the servers were attentive and very polite. The atmosphere was relatively dark with a lot of cool decor, particularly for a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. I was pleased that the chips were light, crispy, and not stale. We ordered our food, and it came out timely. I had the Chimichanga, which was good, but with our group we had a large variety. Everything looked good, and the group was pleased. The only thing I can think to improve on is not to fill (literally, fill) the glasses with the little pellets of ice. The drinks will stay cold enough with half that ice, the drink service will be a little easier, and everyone will be happier. We look forward to coming back when we are in town. read more

The food is pretty good, but the service is godawful. They don't listen and they don't care. Also, the last two times we've been there, they've authorized the card used for more than the amount of the meal, even when specifically told this last time that we don't want to tip on the card. read more
