No complaints. During covid, they made space inside so patients are not sitting close to each other, they took temperatures, and put chairs outside, which by the way, are very comfortable. At first I was reluctant to sit outside, but on my next visit, I did, and it was actually pleasant to sit in the fresh air, they came out to get me when it was time for my appointment. As of today 6/2021, everyone there is wearing masks, and everything is very clean. The wait sometimes is a little long, the room where you wait while your pupils dilate is a little small and can get crowded. Other than they do a great job.

Cataract surgery is one of the most often performed surgeries in the USA, and the surgery has…read morearound a 98% success rate. I am sorry to say that things did not work out well for me. Dr. Gilmer placed the artificial lens in an area which the lens manufacturer does not recommend and that caused exfoliation material from my iris clogging up the eyes drainage network. The clogging of the drainage network caused very high eye pressure that could not be relieved with medicinal eye drops. A second surgery was performed to reset the lens, however, resetting the lens did not relieve the very high eye pressure. Dr. Gilmer told me that if the high eye pressure was not quickly corrected I would lose my vision in that eye. He offered to do a laser surgery, but by that time, for several reasons which I will explain later, I had lost all confidence in Dr. Gilmer. I contacted a glaucoma specialist who performed four additional surgeries before the high eye pressure was sufficiently relieved. I estimate that I have lost around 75 to 80% of my vision in that eye. While being treated by Dr. Gilmer I was subjected to verbal abuse on two occasions and he blamed me for the surgery going wrong and that could not be further from the truth. I am in excellent health and have a very good immune system. It is my opinion that Dr. Gilmer tries to come across as a very friendly and caring physician and at first he fooled me. However, when the going got tough he was far from charming or caring. It is my opinion that he blames others for his short comings and that underneath his charming exterior lurks one of the "entitled".

My eyes were irritated, and the Dr. sent a prescription to a specialty pharmacy called Blink Rx. When I phoned them, I discovered a one-month supply of eye drops would cost $700.+ and was not covered by insurance. The next shock came when I asked for my prescription to use to purchase eyeglasses. They said that would cost $ 75.00. Now, I have seen eye doctors in a number of different states, but have NEVER BEEN CHARGED FOR THE PRESCRIPTION. So I asked, "If I go into my online chart, will I see it there? " The response was, " Oh no, patients are not allowed to see that information." I wonder what HIPAA would have to say about that !! Needless to say, I'm looking for another eye clinic. Unless you are incredibly wealthy, you do not want to see the Florida Eye Specialists. They are not for the average person and absolutely not for retirees living on a fixed income.
