Alex came to my house on Friday to advise and trim a River Birch tree in my front yard. Since it was young it didn't need much so he trimmed it up and gave me instructions on nutritional care. Would highly recommend Marc's Tree Service. Marc is a no-BS, straight shooter, provided a quote back in January and re-confirmed in late March with no change to price. I spent months requesting quotes from 15 different companies in the Charlotte region. Marc's price was much more competitive than many other tree services in the Charlotte area. This tree in particular was a ~120 foot tulip poplar, rotting at the base, and posed a potential danger to my home as well as my neighbor's. It was located in a difficult position in my backyard - some other tree services actually no-quoted the job due to the difficulty and size. Marc contracted out a 60-ton crane and had his guys here in early April to knock it out in a matter of hours. The crane owner/operator (Luis Big Crane Service) was top notch, flying the branches over my house and down into my driveway, weaving in between various other trees in my front yard. They made the work look easy and were very considerate of neighbors and even one animal which managed to ride a large branch down to the ground. All of his employees were friendly and willing to answer any questions I had. I cannot say enough good things about Marc and his crew, and no longer have to stress about the possibility of this tree coming down and posing a threat to life or property. I'm not sure what this other person is thinking - sometimes there's just no pleasing people, I guess. I have used Marc's Tree Service on three occasions. I found him on the list and he had something like 200 good reviews at the time. How exactly do you think he faked all of those reviews? Maybe people just think he does a good job... I live on the lake and I had four or five quotes for the first round of work. Marc's prices were right in the middle of the bunch - I didn't hire him on price. I hired him because he showed up on time for the estimate and had a lot of ideas for my property that the other guys did not mention at all. I also got the sense that he wasn't going to nickel and dime me after the fact. He cleared some dead trees for me - we lost a couple of big pine trees and that was the impetus to finally get the work done. He also did a major uplift of everything in back to open up our view of the water. He picked out all of the scraggly trees and underbrush and wow! everything looked so great afterwards. They started at bout 7:30 in the morning and were there for the whole day. It was over 100 degrees. When I got back from work, they were still working. Marc brought in his colleague who does the stump grinding and it was almost getting dark. I can't believe how they were able to get all of the stumps even on the edge of the bank. In the end, it was all done in one day. Everything was chipped and hauled away. No mess on my driveway, no muddy ruts in the yard. A nice pile of mulch for me to use was the only evidence. His bill was exactly what he said it would be and he even did some extra branches at no charge. Since then, I have had him back every year to trim back the suckers and tidy up. The pricing has always been good and the work has been better than expected. This year, I had his crew come in and do the whole front yard as well as the back. I had a large pine tree fall on my house during a recent ice/snow storm, and the tree damaged the roof. Marc responded very timely to my call and provided a fair quote - he scheduled me for the next day given severity of my roof damage. His crew was very creative in the tree removal process to insure no further damage was done to the roof. They also were very careful not to damage my yard given the wet and muddy conditions. All debris was removed to my satisfaction when they were finished. I trusted Yelp and asked Marc to come out and bid on maintenance / cabeling work on a 70+ year old willow oak in my front yard. The office staff was polite/professional and Marc showed up on time. He took a look at the tree and said "Well... We can do a beautiful job on the tree, but it will be done much easier if a company has equipment X, which I don't have. Don't get me wrong... I believe that we will do a better job, but other companies will be able to do it well and charge you less. Have you talked to X?" Wow... How often do you get that kind of straight-forward, honest feedback! I like the way he does business and hope I have work he can do for me in the future. I already had a bid on the work from the competitor that he recommended and he was right... they bid lower because they were better equipped for the kind of work I needed done. Let me first say, don't trust the reviews on AngiesList. Really, how many legitimate customers of a local tree service can post glowing reviews every couple of days for months on end? Hopefully Yelp screens its reviews better. I hired Marc in 2010 when he was new in the business. He gave me a great price for a job that included removal of two trees and pruning of several. I was glad I could be on site for the pruning activity as these guys are chop happy and they're clearly not arborists. He also mislead me about a few things, but given the great price I was willing to overlook the details. I referred several customers to Marc (for tree removal only), and one later informed me that she might use him for tree removal again and another who said he absolutely wouldn't hire him again. (Since I wasn't directly involved in those other experiences, I don't think it would be fair for me to comment on them here.) I called Marc in 2011 for a dead tree removal, and I couldn't get a return call. After several days, I finally reached him and he told me that business was good and that he couldn't justify doing work for people who were looking for a good price. That was after 3 referrals to him. I won't call him or refer him again because he's not trustworthy and is only out to make a buck. read more

Today Marc sent out a crew of 5 professionals who removed a cherry tree , pruned a crape myrtle and really worked on two large oak trees in front of my house. The canopy of the trees had gotten so low you could not see my house from the street when leaves were out. I told Marc that his men are artists. My trees look beautiful and all I could say was WOW!
