The only reason for not coming back is the distance from my home and the awful 1604 and 10 traffic during all that construction. Today, I went with my wife and one of her friends who was visiting from Chicago on our way home from birding out at Guadalupe River State Park. I don't remember the first time well enough to comment on any changes. I had a hard time choosing a salad. Every single one of them sound fantastic. I finally went with the Mediterranean. All I can say is that it was a wonderful salad. The awesome young lady who prepared it for me used tongs to mix the Hoo Hah out of it. Not only was itt was super fresh, and but I could taste every one of the many ingredients in every bite. It also came in a HUGE bowl. It was what I call a "man salad". I was actually full when it was finished. The only downside of the meal was actually a very positive situation in my opinion. I thought my Sprite Zero tasted funny. My wife disagreed. Either way, I couldn't drink it. I asked a manager if I could get a new cup and explained the situation. She got a little cup and had one of her guys taste it. He agreed with me. Now, why is this a positive situation? That young man immediately got to work cleaning the nozzle in case there was anything in it that was tainting the soda. I have been in similar situations where they just give me a new cup and go right to work as if they didn't care. In this case, the manager and her worker scored major loyalty points! I am bringing my group back the first chance I get.

My girlfriend and I ended up trying their Greek fries, their chicken plate, and even one of their gyro sandwiches. All three dishes were full of flavor and savory, and if you asked me, it's worth the price if you want some good food if you're in the area. I will note especially that despite even being met with a rude customer, they were still professional as they got them settled in with their order. Even after when I had simply passed by one of the cooks, they made an effort to say to enjoy the food. It's a quiet hole in the wall. It is also by far one of the closest experiences that anyone can get to authentic Greek food with some pita bread and hummus. Although it has better prices than most, I literally went to the mall, and after, accidentally sat on a sealed container of my girlfriend's Greek fries and gyro sandwich... if you want leftovers that can withstand a big guy sitting on them - well, you go here too. Casual eatery- order at counter and pay..food will be delivered to your table. But, what did I encounter upon entering? omg their beautiful pastries, desserts, and Mexican conchas. Picked up a guava pastry for later. Ordered the Mexican Cubano torta without cheese and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I chose the birote bread- sourdough crispness on the outside with soft inside texture. This torta packed a ton o' flavor! Ham, bacon, kielbasa sausage, pickles, and bread slathered in their chipotle mustard and cilantro mayo. Delicious! I chose the house salad, rather than soup. Tummy was more than happy. For dessert, I ate the guava pastry in the evening- buttery pastry with a sweet guava jelly filling. Yum! The salads are also solid if you're looking for something lighter. Service is ok. There's this one guy who usually cleans the tables and he's so friendly. I didn't catch his name but he's on it. Located in a large strip mall, parking was not an issue. We were greeted upon entrance and we immediately checked out all their fresh ingredients. My go to base is always greens, instead of rice. . My three proteins of choice today were eel, which I was happy to see, spicy tuna, and ahi tuna. He heated the eel in the microwave for a few. Loved the variety of extensive veggies, sauces, and topping sections. Most are free unlimited too, except for avocado and cream cheese, a small extra charge. I think I pretty much had most of the ingredients in my bowl lol. As far as sauces, you can mix if you like and I was able to sample as well. I'm a spicy chick, so he mixed up a concoction of sriracha aioli and spicy ginger. My bowl was packed with yumminess. I could have used a plate to mix up all the goodies. The eel had a slight sweetness to it and the dressings/sauce was actually not that hat spicy. My bowl was topped with wonton chips for a crispy texture. Perfectly full and happy with healthy choices made. Seating was abundant. No military discount offered. When in the area, we'll definitely be back!

Absolutely blown away by our experience at Shawarma Boys!…read more I ordered the Gyro Plate a perfect mix of lamb and beef with rice and salad, tzatziki sauce and my son went with the beef shawarma plate, Arabi-style--both were packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly fresh. Every bite tasted like it was made with care and authenticity. The Arabic style beef was crispy on the edges which made it even better. We couldn't leave without dessert, and the baklava with honey and pistachio drizzle was out of this world--crispy, sweet, and just the right balance of richness. To top it all off, we enjoyed Turkish coffee that was bold, smooth, and the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Forgot to mention the freshly made Falafel, not pre made and frozen. The chef here makes everything from scratch with family recipes. From the food to the overall experience, everything was top-notch. Definitely a place we'll keep coming back to. There is a little bit of a wait for the food since everything is fresh from scratch. Bathroom is clean. Small interior but nicely decorated and two large screen TV's showing cooking videos which were very entertaining. Definitely worth a try.

I wrote this draft a few days ago and have really struggled with whether or not to post it…read more I hate to write a bad review for a local business, but you know what else I hate? Wasting time and money. Let me explain... I walked in at 4:34PM and asked for a menu to take to the car parked right outside the door so my wife could help with our order. The lady was very kind and allowed me to do this. I returned 15 minutes later and waited as she quickly finished taking someone else's order, and then she took mine. The time is now 4:52PM (cue the credit card swipe). Other people start wandering in, ordering, and waiting, some sit to dine-in, others sit for to-go orders. No one knows the fate that is about to befall them. Before we continue, and to be fair, the sign at the host stand says to expect a 15-20 min wait because they make each order fresh. Cool with me, I love fresh food! All we ordered was shawarma and the sides that their meals/sandwiches come with. When in Rome, right? Let's take a step back here. In my near-professional opinion (this is the food of my ethnic heritage) shawarma requires at least two key elements (unless you're desperate and need a quick fix at home): a vertical rotisserie and seasoning. Call me high maintenance. The food we were given at 5:40PM (yes, 48 minutes later) was chunks of pre-cut and then cooked (unseasoned) chicken and plain ground beef. Both had sumac sprinkled on top as garnish. Folks, beef shawarma deserves to be properly sliced and layered onto a plate or into a pita. Beef shawarma is not ground beef. Full stop. I'll include photos here just so that you can validate my claims, but the 48-minute wait for 2 sandwiches and 2 plates is absolutely unacceptable, regardless of what you're trying to pass off as middle eastern food. I only wish I had been as lucky as some of you and showed up here to find them closed (that actually did happen to me the first time I showed up here during their posted business hours and now I see that this experience was really my fault for trying again). I felt so ashamed at myself that I left a tip at the time I ordered. Had I only known... "But Danny, did you say something? Did they try and make it better?" Nope and nope. I wanted to be cool, I wanted to be patient, but the minutes kept ticking by and at one point about 30 minutes in one guy said my food was almost ready. Thirty minutes isn't far from 20 minutes so I gave a little grace. As the lady handed me the food she did say "sorry sir." I looked her in the eye and calmly replied "it has almost been an entire hour." And then I walked out to the car where my wife and children had been waiting. We won't ever be back here. There are so many better options for actual, flavorful, real shawarma around here.
