*Sigh*. I am not a fan of Marche presqu'ile, but feel it is a necessary evil to living in the 1er. I'll admit that I am new to the supermarchés here, but I don't believe this place is much cheaper than Monoprix or the far superior and local open air marches like Marché Saint-Antoine Célestins.
If you stick to the generic Leader Price items, sure, there are quality bargains--but those are outnumbered by luxury gourmet products, novelties and expensive bio meals.
Yes, it is clean, and the produce--most of which is overpriced and imported--is displayed like a jewelry store, but there is no logic to the layout.
And forget about coming during the after work 'rush hour' pre dinner, when sometimes it is so busy that there are no shopping baskets at the door! You will get pushed aside in a claustrophobic grocery trample by hungry shoppers!
What I do like about this store is the nice selection of wine and the newly expanded 'international' grocery section, which is right by la caisse, so it seems funnily more like an 'expat impulse buy' section for those hankering for ramen, burritos, or tiny jars of 3 euro peanut butter.
Also, les caissier(e)s are generally friendly despite what must be usually long days!
If you can make the trip to Le Marche des Producteurs, or groceries outside of the 1er, I think that is your best bet--and in fact, I would love any recommendations! read more
