I've lived in Marchwood Apartments for 3 1/2 years. During that time, at least six times, someone has trespassed into my apartment, causing mischief, some damage to my things & stealing many items. At first, I called the office each time, but when they offered no help & said I had no proof, I stopped calling to complain. About a year passed in which I didn't notice anything missing or out of place. Then this past December it started again. When I called the office to let them know, I was told the lock could be replaced at my expense. However, the previous year, I had paid to have the lock replaced. It seemed to me that since the last lock hadn't kept someone out, it was on them to replace it again. I did purchase a motion activated camera, but never caught anyone. This person seems to know when I'm not home, so is either someone in the building or has a device planted in my apartment to monitor me. I do have a calendar that's easily seen, which lists my frequent comings & goings. Most of the stolen items are silly: bars of soap, a roll of Scotch tape, a box of cookies, a two roll pack of paper towels, among others. More serious stolen items are: a partial bottle of Percocet, a sterling silver salad fork & butter knife, an antique dog pull toy, two hard to find children's books, an AKC dog breeds book signed by all my friends when I left Florida to move back to PA & my end-of year Social Security tax statement. Occasionally two diamond rings were left out, they were never bothered & I haven't found anything of value other than what I previously mentioned to be missing. One time a very large, oily, black stain was put on my white shower curtain & the inside of a CD case was broken. I've also called the police, especially about the Percocet, & the office here said the police never contacted them about that. Needless to say, last week, when I again came home & found something out of place, I became hysterical. Someone seems to enjoy playing games & tormenting me. At the very least it's trespassing, harassment & invasion of privacy. Last week, when I found something out of place, I also found, in a box of cookies left on the counter, a single bite out of the top cookie. I didn't take that bite, but it's the only "proof" I have that this has been happening. When I called the office, I had to leave a message for the manager, but by then it was 5:00 & I've not heard from her yet. I do have a Cardigan Welsh Corgi, but he has yet to meet someone he doesn't like & would let anyone in. I'm desperately looking for a new home & will break the lease when I find something. I'm a senior, & feel constant stress not knowing when I come home every time whether I'll find something else missing, out of place or damaged. This person has spent time in my home, looking around & into my personal papers. On top of all this, there have been six water leaks from upstairs in my time here, & management has been slow to make repairs. In addition, in July, 2020, they started allocating water usage using a complex formula based on the number of people in the apartment & the size of the apartment, what that has to do with water usage is beyond me. My water bill has steadily gone up since July, & when I went online to check February's water bill, it will be $60! I live in an apartment with the lowest rent & do have a dishwasher. But many of the higher rent places have washing machines, & of course there are the many laundry rooms around the complex, each with four washing machines. I'd have to let the water run for quite a long time to use $60 worth of water. I'm paying for water that I'm not using, & paying for water that people who live in higher rent apartments & have washing machines are using. It's all so outrageous! I wouldn't recommend Marchwood to anyone, based on these many problems! read more
